    So...I Had Eye Surgery
Last Tuesday I had surgery to remove a cataract in my right eye. They had to replace my natural lens with an implant. I feel old but I am only 42. It's supposed to improve my vision by 5 dioptors. Given my visions was around -25 I can't see clearly but I should have a less strong prescription.

I have to put 2 drops in my eyes 4 times a day and another 3 times. Got to wear goggles to bed so I don't accidentally scratch my eye in my sleep. Can't bend over at the waist and look down. Easy to forget that last one.

Got a follow up on Wednesday and hope to get the green light to go get a new prescription. The disparity between my good eye and the repaired eye is really bad right now so I am wearing an prate eye patch. LOL!

That's it. Can't think of anything more to say.

It may be a hassle putting drops in right now, and it may not have fully corrected your vision but be thankful you have two functioning eyes and had the option of surgery.

Hope all goes well with you. My last eye appointment (about 6 months ago), I was told that I have the very beginning stage of cataracts. I am 48 and was told that nothing needed to be done at this time, but that will eventually change.

No one 'likes" having a surgical repair of any kind, but usually it beats the alternative, so think positive....heal well and heal fast. We're pulling for ya!

Welcome to the fun world of cataracts. :/ I had to have cataract surgery on both eyes (different occasions) when I was 35... Only about 20 years sooner than average.

They used a prescription lens in my implant too and it has helped me in terms of not needing glasses for every day walking around. That said, I now have to wear reading glasses because the implant lens won't focus like a natural lens (you can't squint and hold something close to see it better). Also, be aware that having surgery on it earlier than average means that your healing response may be faster which could cause issues. I've had to have laser surgery on my eyes a couple of times since because of scar tissue that was developing too fast and pulling at the edges of the implant causing blurry vision.

What a coincidence! I just had my cataract surgery on Friday in my right eye!! I had a retinal detachment last summer and the vitrectomy caused a catatact. I had 2 drops 4 times a day as well! Kind of annoying, but necessary haha. I'm a -13 I think, but now I can see more or less without glasses in my right eye. Still need a very strong prescription for my left, though. Huge difference in vision between eyes. Now I either wear my contact in my left eye or my glasses, which I modified to cover the right eye like a patch. I wish you a quick recovery!!

LOL. I don't think it's catching. :P My opthomologist once told me "You have such interesting eyes"...He meant medically.. I told him I'd rather have "boring" "normal" eyes LOL. I have retinopathy of prematurity which is a condition I've had since birth, so I get retina issues along with the congenital cataracts. :/

Well that's just not fair... Of course it's near-impossible to get thru life without some sort of issues, but I'm just surprised at how young the members are in this thread
that are having these kinds of issues (that I associate with much older folks).

I would love to have normal eyes. Even normal "bad" eyes. But I thank God I can still see with the aid of contacts and glasses.

Glad to hear you're on the mend Chris. Just remember that everyday spent on this side of the grass, is a good day. All of the rest, is just part of the journey my friend.

The eyes have got to be the worst place for ink, & there's for sure some runner-ups...:bleh:

I’m actually a surgical technologist. I don’t do eye surgeries but I do know people who have cataract surgeries feel and see amazing after! Once it heals you’re going to be so thankful and amazed at how well you can see. :)

Edit: Also don’t feel old! Cataracts can happen because of many reasons. It could be an inherited predisposition, some type of injury to your eye, and even some other conditions can increase risk. Such as diabetes.

I would put it off as long as possible (but not too long, they can get too large and be more difficult to remove.) I had it done in both eyes. I can recommend some things.
    1. Have them put the close vision lens or the more expensive ones that see both near and far. My doctor recommended the close but I went stupidly with far distance. That was a mistake. Try looking in a mirror and checking your eye for an eye lash or something in it, reading, etc. And far lens didn't work either so I am somewhere middle vision. The doc said it is hard to get the far lens placed just at the right depth or some excuse anyway.
    2. If you have lightning type flashes at the side of your eye after surgery get to the eye doc soon. You might need laser surgery to repair tears to the inside. I did in EACH eye and now because my surgery eye doc didn't even check me after surgery the next day the doc who filled in missed my having a small tear in the side of my left eye the small black dots got worse and floaters (which never leave) appeared along with the black dots.
    3. Cat. Surgery can bring on the hardening of the eye fluid and therefore tears. (They don't tell you that before.) So now I have a large floater from the tear (repaired by laser surgery) in my left eye that bothers my vision and my right eye is blurry because of a film that can get on the cataract lens that they have to buff away with laser. I've had each eye laser repaired and buffed once (4 laser surgeries total) and now the right needs buffing again. Once they hit it with laser you can see clearly the same day. It costs from 3 to 4 hundred to have them buffed. Buffing is not the medical terminology but is what I call it because the laser cleans the fluid of the lens. So get a doctor recommended by friends, family, etc. A doctor can make a BIG difference. My wife had a good one and no problems. I had a bad one and a LOT of problems.

I don't mean to scare anyone but hope to help some of you avoid the problems I have. Get a GOOD recommended doc. And go with lenses close sighted or the close/far type. And watch out for flashes and or spots.

My father had to have two done. With the first he ignored the doctors orders and did a bunch of heavy lifting that caused a bunch of problems. So if anyone reading this gets one, please take things easy until you fully recover.
