How often do you eat turkey outside of Thanksgiving?
really how often do u eat turkey outside of Thanksgiving?
i just had a crappy jimmy john's turkey sandwich for lunch and wondered where else i have eaten turkey. basically outside of Thanksgiving i don't eat much turkey. do u? i guess i just eat carved turkey breast for a sandwich, a big turkey drumstick at the state fair and that one time i spent almost $30 at the the scam that is the Whole Foods hot bar on turkey and sides.
when do u eat turkey and what are the best turkey dishes?
:confusd:

I pretty much only eat turkey on thanksgiving. And that’s only if I’m with a decent sized gathering for dinner. Two years ago I smoked a rack of ribs when it was thanksgiving for a group of three people. [emoji869][emoji91][emoji869]

I usually bake 2 turkeys per year, one for Thanksgiving & one later in winter. I LOVE the "leftovers". :D I mean, I like it with potatoes & stuffing & gravy etc,
but I also like cold turkey sandwiches (I don't consume preserved deli meats- they're full of nitrites etc), & I also use the cooked meat in all sorts of other things
like enchiladas, & all the scraps are carefully gone thru (to remove bones etc) & added to my dog's kibble for their warm evening meals (yup, 2 spoiled dogs!).
Actually I don't care much for the drumsticks or wings...my dogs score all of that too. It's right about time for me to make the 2nd turkey in my freezer...yum!
Oh, the leftover turkey pieces make terrific soup too or stew also. I only cook turkey in winter...as it warms up the house too much in warmer months, but it's
well-worth my time, even though a little messy (all the cutting up). ;) I make fairly large turkeys so I have lots leftover...I can't really answer how many times
I eat it per year, 'cause each one makes so many meals.

I use turkey mice pretty regularly as low fat alternative to beef mince and also diced turkey instead of chicken in stir fry and fajitas

Turkey mice....? But that reminds me, I use turkey pepperoni when I make pizza- tastes the same & is lower fat. (I do not make the pepperoni...)

So what do you guys have for Christmas ?
As that's when we have turkey here in UK

I love turkey and my wife and kids too. We usually just get the breasts vs the whole bird. But we get turkey clubs out, eat a lot of deli turkey also. But my favorite is a traditional turkey and stuffing dinner. I’ll order turkey dinners at local family restaurants, yep I like turkey.

Growing up, we always had turkey for both Thanksgiving & Christmas dinner, but I may or may not make my "second turkey" for Christmas...this year it's later.
What I like even more than turkey (except the lack of leftovers) are Rock Cornish game hens...I like the milder flavor better- everything & anything goes good with them.
I often make them for Christmas...so there's less mess & more time to relax, also.
Many people here like ham or prime rib for the holidays. This year I had dinner out at a nice restaurant overlooking a local river...the menu was a choice of ham, prime
rib & turkey...I still had turkey! :rolleye2: LOL I don't eat much beef & only consume the uncured ham from my local 'natural foods' market...Beeler's is the best ham, IMO.
(I'm fussy about what I eat...it just occurred to me, I might have been a ball python in a "previous life"? hahaha!)

I eat turkey in sandwiches all the time, but that's sliced deli meat, not whole roasted turkey. I only make whole turkey (or sometimes just a breast or a roast, depending on how many people I'm feeding) for Thanksgiving.

Usually ham or steak... and a turkey leg or two. I like to have something non-bird for Christmas, but my youngest son hates ham and steak, so he gets the turkey leg.

I buy deli turkey slices weekly. We prefer it over ham for making sandwiches.

Re: How often do you eat turkey outside of Thanksgiving?
I can’t really say how often I eat it. For a big roast turkey, usually just Thanksgiving and sometimes Christmas. The rest of the year, I pretty regularly have turkey kielbasa or chicken sausage. If I have a sandwich, it’s usually sliced turkey or chicken.

Re: How often do you eat turkey outside of Thanksgiving?
When I was eating more sandwiches, there is a fantastic mesquite wood smoked turkey that was delicious, but beyond that I do not even really eat it at Thanksgiving. Living in WA we cook up a salmon more often than not.

Arbys actually has an AWESOME turkey sandy.....carved turkey, bacon, cheddar, ranch, red onions, romaine, and tomatoes on thick multigrain. Freakin awesome.
Used to work at Jimmy Johns in college....lol....the days when I couldn't pass a drug test but Jimmys was hiring and half the workforce was stoned anyways. The vito and the ultimate porker are incredible. Always add hot peppers. I share a lot of love for the veg sub too actually.
