Repticon questions

Well folks, tomorrow morning I'll be going to Repticon in Nashville to pick up my first snake in 20ish years. I posted here a while back and got some great advice. I've since set up the tank and feel that it's ready for its inhabitant.

Since this is my first Repticon and I will likely be overloaded with everything going on, do you have any last minute advice on what to look for in breeders? What questions should I ask before buying? Is it ok to ask to hold snakes? Do people haggle? My kids (15 and 12) are going with me and we're avid antique shop browsers so they know the rules about touching stuff. My son is pretty pumped, my daughter only wants to see the furry things.

Before buying, always ask what he/she has been feeding on. And make sure to inspect the animal for mites, any signs of a respiratory infection, or any health problems. But the main thing that I’d defenitely ask is what it’s feeding on, and any other questions you have about the snake. A good breeder will be able to answer your questions, and a breeder that you probably don’t want to buy from is one that won’t be able to answer your questions.

Oh, and to another one of your questions, its definetely ok to ask to hold a snake. Most breeders will be more than willing to allow you to.

Thank you! I got him from RL exotics. A guy named David Levinson. He was the only one there with a plain banana. Had an absolutely huge display setup with sooooo many snakes and he wasn't even done setting up when I got mine.

I got the female Candino from the same guy as u at Repticon. Small world. You are right, he had a nice big display. My other purchase was from a small vendor and Not as nice. Stupid me thought it had beautiful blue eyes, but in fact was in blue to shed and he want nice enough to tell me.... lol and a bad shed I have been battling for the last few days. He is a mystic potion with silvery eyes. Oh well.... my inexperience. I don’t know a lot about morphs, I had Boa’s growing up and I had no interests in the balls back then. I am now, over last few years, rekindling my snake passion and have grown to really appreciate the ball python. I was told that the candino would only get more bright and purple the older it gets and the mystic potion will get darker. Can’t wait to see[emoji16]

Congrats on the new snake. My Repticon in FL is in two weeks and I cannot wait. I will be looking for a carpet python. Your new little guy looks awesome!
