Possible Upgrade
So, I’m thinking of making a serious upgrade for my Monty. As we all know, maintaining humidity, especially in a “glass box”, can be a challenge, to say the least. This would be a tremendous help in stabilizing humidity and he’ll have room to stretch out. I’m also thinking of getting a 2nd cage to stack due to an upcoming expo. In April. Thoughts?

Is it PVC? What company? $620 seems pretty pricey, even for a 4x2x2. I don't think Showcase cages are even that expensive?

Comes out $50 cheaper for the same set-up (same accessories included) on APCages.com and I have to order a heat panel separately and have it shipped to them to install. Any other reputable sites I may be missing?

Re: Possible Upgrade
A ton. :) Animal Plastics is the most commonly recommended. Reptile Basics if you're willing to lose some height. Others swear by Boaphile. I had a great ordering experience with Herptastic Reptiles. I know I'm missing some, hopefully others chime in.

Ohhh lots of great choices. Looks like I'll be shopping & comparing into the wee-hours of the morning. :)
Thanks for the info!

Re: Possible Upgrade
Also, 2 feet tall is probably excessive for a ball python because they're more terrestrial than anything, especially when older. (Apologies if Monty is something else.) Most keepers stick to anywhere from 12" - 18" height for BP's, with 15" being common. The more you add in height also means more cage to heat, so something to consider.

Ahhh yes, makes sense.
Okay, Reptile Basics has a 48x24x15 for $365 (with 80w panel & LED)....PVCCages has a 48x24x18 (with 80w panel & LED) for $590??? Is is really that much better??

I have heard many good things about Reptile Basics cages. I don't own one yet, but it will likely be the next kind I buy. I've looked at PVC Cages online but never seriously considered them because they seem very overpriced.

Possible Upgrade
Welp, I pulled the trigger on the (above) Reptile Basics order. Am I missing anything?

Nice! You should be really happy with that setup. You may not end up needing the heat tape if you're running a RHP. What's the ambient room typically kept at? It may be worth setting the cage up sans snake with just the RHP to see what temps are like after a couple of days, and then you can always install heat tape if needed.

Great info!
Yea, after reading up on the RB set ups I was actually doubting the need of heat tape. They seem to be very well built and hold temps. like a champ.
Room stays around 75/76F at all times so I may be okay.
Thanks so much for the insight! You just saved me about $250!

I'm late to the party, but congrats on the newly purchased setup! Monty is going to be a spoiled, happy little snake. :)

Re: Possible Upgrade
Also late to the party but wanted to say I love my Reptile Basics cages. Currently have four and probably switching out my current cages for these in the next couple of months. Super easy to clean, smooth texture so everything wipes right off. I also like how well they stack since they come with these discs that keep them from sliding. That’s just extra info for when Monty has friends. :D

Re: Possible Upgrade
If your room temp stays 75/76 degrees you will be fine with just the rhp. That is how mine are setup and temps are perfect.
Congrats on the new cage and equipment.

Awesome! Always good to hear positive feedback, especially when I just dumped a few coins into the new set up. :P And yes, Monty will absolutely be getting at least one friend. :) I've got my eye on a black-eyed Lucy.
