    I did it!
This little story may sound silly but I'm rather proud of myself right now even if I am still shaking a bit.

This may be kind of off topic, but the reason it has taken me till I'm 61 before getting a snake, that I really wanted for a VERY long time, is because I am HORRIFIED of mice and rats, dead or alive. I was frequently terrorized by them when I was very little and adults thought it was funny. I can deal with most any animal but them. I decided I would get past it before I ran out of time and never get to experience the wonder of having a pet snake myself.

Some on this board may know that I have recently gotten two baby BP. Each is about 4 months old. Today was the first time I was to feed them and I'm proud to say I did the WHOLE thing by myself. It was hard but I did it and I know I can again. From purchasing them, taking them out of the freezer and thawing them and then feeding them. One snake ate... one did not. But it will when I try again and I know I CAN do it!

I know... TMI... but I'm proud of me. Thank you for reading this.

    Good job!
Most people are horrified at snakes-not the rodents we feed them...:)

Congratulations! :gj: I had pet rodents of all kinds when I was younger, so my hesitation about snakes was being able to feed them for a very different reason.

We're all different though...I can recall one person who surrendered their unwanted BP to me after losing interest actually admitted that the only reason he wanted
a snake was because he HATED rodents & loved to watch the snake killing them...:O

It's usually a positive thing to overcome our hang-ups & learn new things, even if it takes a while. We're all capable of much more than we think.

Very true. I grew up being terrified of the water. It would happen when I was deep enough for my head to go under, which was caused by my father throwing me into the river when he was "teaching me to swim". :tears: I overcame this fear by learning how to scuba dive. Now, I have 7 diving certifications and have literally swam with sharks.

My other fear was of heights. I tackled this obstacle by going sky diving. Not to say I recommend these approaches but....it worked. So, like you've stated, we are absolutely capable of much more than we may think.

That's truly awesome that the OP has tackled his/her fear of rodents head-on and beat it! Definitely something to be proud of.

Those are mice, & yes, they ARE pretty cute, especially in all those fancy colors. I only breed fancy ones too, many in black/brown/tan or grey & white, & I'm proud
of my "herd" too. They don't make great pets though, no where near as smart as rats.

I eat some meat but not much. I get sick from it. But I know that I have a hard time thinking of any animal being harmed yet I also used to enjoy eating meat before I couldn't tolerate it. Well, at least very little of it. So, I'm about humanity to animals too. Yes, they are food and they are pets. Humane treatment is the key IMHO, both to pets, livestock and wild creatures.

LOL!!! No, I only eat infertile eggs. I know because I read on social media that no roosters are pleasured in the making of eggs for human consumption. :taz::oops::P

Do snakes actually eat those? Or are they for another critter?

I’ve seen videos of snakes eating them, it isn’t a product I would use.

They come in handy for some species of snakes that have a difficult time being transitioned to whole rodents, but can be pricey and not as useful for species that normally eat rodents in the wild.

For example, eastern hognose snakes are notoriously difficult to transition to rodents and these can be a big help for some to keep them eating before they take rodents. Most people can't get whole toads/lizards/whatever their native prey is very easily or at least not in sizes appropriate for babies, so these links are just small "sausages" of those different prey types.

Some individual snakes will simply not eat them due to the odd non-prey shape, but in many cases if it smells like their natural prey they will give it a try.
