I was updating my website and decided to add an offer to all my fellow reptile enthusiasts:

Web hosting/Email

This is a special offer for your reptile related website!

Are you a reptile lover or a private breeder looking to establish a presence on web? I can help! I am offering web site hosting AND email for the special low price of $60 per year!

This price includes the purchase of a domain name of your choice (depending on availability) for one year, domain name and web space setup on my server, and up to 5 email addresses.

Example of domain name (my own): www.WarrenReptiles.com

Example of Email address (my own): Heath@WarrenReptiles.com

This price is half what I normally charge for web hosting which is $10/month ($120/yr) I am also waving the initial setup fee of $40!

Don't need or want a website but want personalized Email? No problem: $25/yr includes purchase of domain name and 2 addresses.

Details:

This is a personally owned/operated webserver built, configured, and maintained by me.

Server is currently kept at a local internet service provider's data center which I have easy access to (I was a previous employee and live right down the road).

Currently no bandwidth restrictions and unlimited ammount of data transfer. (no restrictions such as per month traffic limits).

Currently no restrictions on web space...however this will be monitored within reason, and is subject to change.

Email is available via webmail at your domain (example: mail.warrenreptiles.com)

Spam filters in place for email services, spam/junk mail deposited in seperate folder for you to view before deleting, filters constantly updated.

So far so good! :) I've got the bare bones of the site set up already and added a link in my sig, not much in the way of pics or anything yet but working on it! Basically just an index and links page so far, nowhere near the levels of cool Ken's site is at but all in good time. /(^v^)\

EDIT: Oh, and taking up a few pages of notebook paper with brainstorming may help Jo, that's how I finally came up with mine which couldn't suit me better. I wrote down everything I could think of related to the subject as well as a bunch of things that just interested me and scribbled down a good few dozen combinations. You'd be surprised how much brainstorming I did before coming up with something as simple as Blue Gorgon :P

ah...to choose that domain name. That can be the most fun, frustrating, time consuming part of the whole process! I can add as many domain names as you like and point them to your main site with only the charge of added domain name itself for those of you who can't decide or don't want your future names taken.

LOL Raj! Hmmm maybe I could advertise our future snakes with "a price you CAN'T refuse"???? (somehow marketing a snake as "buy this or ya sleep with da fishes" might not be a top notch marketing strategy though! :P )

Hey folks just wanted to kindly reiterate that I simply don't have time to build websites as much I would like to. I also don't have the design skill that many others do. My background is in hardware, server administration, and networking. A few of you have asked about building a site for you as well as hosting and I hate to turn anyone away but I don't want to make promises I can't keep or build something that just won't be up to your liking. I'm sure there are others here who would work with you on designing...just have to ask.


Offer still open, its been a slow but steady trickle so if I keep getting people I'll keep the offer for reptile related sites open until it looks like there is no more interest.

I just want to let the couple of you who have hosting through me that the reason these sites are not accessible is because of a BIG WOOPS on the part of SBC (the telecom). Basically they *attempted* to do an upgrade this morning and something went wrong...to say the least:

*Looks like we also have some script kiddies who mucked up forums here...Admin Team: get that forumdisplay.php replaced with a backup! (It also appears the hosting company isn't a very secure one for such a low level attack ...that or a vulnerability within vbulletin itself.

Forumdisplay.php and others were being replaced with new files even as you were typing. :) I think we've got things under control. Matt has done an excellent job of getting the forums back on track without having to revert to backed-up databases and losing new posts and member registrations.

I didn't figure that this weak of an attack would do anything to the DB...it is kindy scary though at least from my view that such a simple thing as this was successfull.

I don't know if anyone is considering a new site anytime soon or not but I thought I would give one last "push" before the offer gets put on hold for a while. If anyone IS considering and would like to act on the offer I have open I would ask that you act within the next day or two. I can be contacted by email to answer your questions or if you are ready now and would like to request to be setup.


*I leave for 2 weeks of training this coming weekend, following that I will be headed to Ft Dix where my National Guard unit will be training up for a SecFor mission in Iraq. This is subject to change but as of now this is happening. I don't know if/when I will have internet access but I will get it somehow, untill then I will not be able to setup new accounts...if I am even able to continue new accounts overseas, I will have to play it by ear once there. I will continue to support current users as best I can throughout the deployment.

Just want to say congrats to Ed (Freakie_frog) he is finally all setup with his chosen domain name and email. He put up with some lag time on my end due to the holidays which I appreciate. I know he said he wouldn't be on much with some changes he's dealing with but I'll let him reveal the details when he's ready and able to ;)
