haha, way to be thrifty! good feeding response on a dead and bloodied rabbit?

reminds me of the time i hit a deer with my jeep. i jumped out, put it out of its misery and threw it in the back. i felt like a hillbilly for sure.

Hahaha, good to know I am not the only one who has done that before (hit a deer and then put it out of its misery and loaded it up in my truck). But hillbilly or not my friend, it was free meat that kept my freezer stocked for ages.

Isn't anyone worried about disease in rodents/rabbits that are found by the side of the road? Seems to me, this is a risky practice.

I'd be worried about parasites as well.

    Charming though, really.

Oh I didn't realise the snake was originally wild.. as long as it'll be returned to the wild I guess the parasites won't harm it anyway.

Agreed....it is a risky practice.....but since she is imprinted on wild items I have to find her wild items....I just make sure they are healthy and there is no chance they can get to poison etc.

I'm just glad this magnificent hare didn't have to go to waste.....It was huge

Nice rock - I have one as well. Quick question though - how does she distinguish between a wild item and a captive raised one? Intrigued.

the feeder or Lab Rats and Rabbits we all use for our captives smell totally different when compared to wild rats, rabbits and hares.... Basically the smell of the domesticated stuff doesn't even initiate a feeding responce... she will wave her tongue at the movement and then just move on or lie back and relax

Hmm that is interesting. I could see (maybe) a recently wild caught specimen being that picky, but it is strange as wild prey items would smell different, if it was a type of hare from Africa or a hare from the States. You think, I haven't personally smelled or tasted either so who knows?

Edit, just noticed you are from Africa....Read Rusty Read.
