New tank.
Well the humidity is really good. Its actually 78% but the temp is 81.5 so far. Have a UTH and a 100% red bulb over head. Hoping it keeps climbing. I do have the other UTH that's on the old tank, but it probably wont come off very good. The one I installed on the new tank is the correct size for 40g tank. I'll give it a little longer. SO excited!! Still have to put the water bowl and hides in there. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4922811472.jpg

good, i'm glad your temps are rising. just make sure your heat source(s) are regulated w/ a thermostat or dimmer so the temps stop when they reach the appropriate levels.

I dont know that I need one. I've been pretty lucky dialing in temp and humidity. Always hovers around 87-90° and 58-62% [emoji2369]

but what happens when your luck runs out? your snake gets overheated and burned. do u wanna risk a injured snake and the vet bills that goes with it? or worse yet, a dead snake? the thermostat is the most important equipment in any setup. check out this setup guide for a glass tank. Step #4 gives u a few different options for a thermostat: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...-With-Pictures!

This! ^ you can get a thermostat on amazon for $18.

Definetly get a thermostat. Even a cheap $18 one from amazon will work, though it is less reliable. I use a Century thermostat and it needs some tampering with and monitoring but it's MUCH more safe than using an unregulated heat source.
What about the day you're away for a few hours in the summer and the temps spike to 100f+? It can easily burn if not kill your snake, or cause neurological damage.
If you can't/won't get a thermostat, then at least get a dimmer/rheostat. Can fluctuate throughout the day, but better than nothing.

A thermostat is a must!!! Not an option

Re: New tank.
No worries everyone. I will make sure the temps are where they need to be. It's my first bp and I've taken really good care of him so far. Thanks for all the advice. [emoji106]

Seeing as it's your first BP I would take the advice of the experienced keepers here on this forum. Don't let your ego result in a dead snake, when you post incorrect set up expect veteran members to give you flak. They would rather correct you than see a post in the rainbow bridge a few months down the line. Beautiful noodle and congrats on the new setup.

^^^^^ refusing to properly regulate heat sources because your snake has made it this far and you know best sure sounds like an ego to me. Spend the 20 bucks and put something to regulate the temp on that UTH as stated in this thread all it takes is for you to be out one day and that UTH shoots up to 120+ and your noodle is toast.

Alright everyone. Apparently everyone took my post about not needing at tstat for my bp wrong. Everyone just needs to chill. Theres no ego. All I've done on this forum is ask questions and post about how well things are going. I'm not some kid. I've owned plenty of animals in the past from dogs to chameleons, geckos, bearded dragons, fish... I apologize if my post came across as me having an "ego", but I dont appreciate people trying to jump all over me making it seem like I'm neglecting or refusing to keep proper husbandry on my bp. Admin can we just lock this post up please?
Again thanks everyone for your advice and info. [emoji111]

I don't think admins are going to shut it down right now, because you really do need a thermostat. No egos or anything aside, it's just a required piece of equipment in snake keeping in particular, since their temp requirements are relatively low compared to other species. =) It's kind of like getting hay if you want to own a rabbit LOL.
You are obviously trying your best to have the best setup possible. Just need to look more into it that thermostats are part of snake keeping!

Dude, it sounds like you need a thermostat.

New tank.
The best way to learn is to keep an open mind, ask questions and listen the the answers.
I’ve been keeping ball pythons for 3 years. I currently have 11 adults and 2 juveniles.
I constantly monitor the thermostats and temperatures utilizing a herpstat dimmer thermostat with steel probes and an infrared laser thermometer.
That’s about all I do besides run a humidifier, change the water bowl, clean up the litter and toss them some rats.
