    I just cant stop....
So i was planning on picking up a red neo Wamena/Highlands X Highlands GTP that had a very good chance of becoming a high blue animal. But then i ran into a local breeder of Mexican Beaded Lizards who i had talked to about a year ago. He tells me his clutch of normal beaded are due to hatch any day and his small clutch of 'super black' beaded are due to hatch end of this month. So after talking half the night, he ended up offering me pick of the clutch when they hatch. Needless to say, I'm pretty darn excited and cant wait even if i have to drive about 5 hours to his place to pick out the lizard end of this month lol. And as an example, this is one of his holdbacks from last year's clutch. The yellow is falling off and it is getting that ominous black to it.

That is so cool! I’ve never seen these in person, but have seen photos and nature documentaries that included them. I can hardly wait to see your pictures and watch the progression. Truly a unique addition to your collection. Congratulations!

Beautiful lizzy, I can totally understand getting sidetracked. (assuming no legal issues where you are?)

Envenomation by the Mexican beaded lizard: a case report.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12807305

(for anyone reading that isn't aware that these are venomous)

Nope. They are legal here. Only things illegal are crocodilea, crocodile monitors and i believe water monitors. And of course any venomous snake. Kind of ironic that a venomous lizard is ok but not snakes. I guess its the fact that snakes can easily kill you with a bite where as gilas and beaded lizards will just make you wish you died unless you are allergic to their venom like a bee sting and then you could go into anaphylactic shock and die.

In that case, have at it. :D Actually some venomous snakes are likely to just "make you wish you died" too.

Haha, yeah i went crazy. The beaded isnt until end of this month or possibly beginning of next month as i am waiting for the clutch to hatch, then i gotta drive about 5 hours to the guys' house to pick out which one i want. So with this lizard, my childhood wish list will have been fulfilled and i can die content :P

wow congrats! i love seeing these guys at the shows. there was one breeder freehandling a Gila Monster last spring. it seemed puppy dog tame and he invited select people to pet it.

you can't have any venomous snakes in KingCo. monitors and tegus are fine, but not any members of the Crocodylia. in Seattle proper, you're not supposed to have any snake exceeding 8feet. also no reptiles or amphibians that are venomous (or venomoid). and of course, no Crocodylia.

True, they are venomous. The venom is actually the same as coral snakes. Thing is, they dont generate enough to kill people unless you are allergic and go into anaphylactic shock like a bee sting. There has not been a documented death from one since 1939 and that was in children. A protein in their venom is actually being researched to help with diabetes.

So bottom line is that they wont kill a healthy human adult. And generally once they reach adulthood, they mellow out a lot. But of course you dont want to let your guard down. They are beautiful. That is why i want one. Heck, retics, burms and anacondas can kill you too...and have.....but people still own them. You just have to know what you are getting into and research and respect it.

If you look at my Caesar retic thread, you will a nice tag i took from him with me being dumb and leaving a rat scented cardboard on top of the cage stack and him finding it and me not reading his 'hunting' for that rat. He is normally laid back and a giant lush.
