Soooo why do they have male ballet dancers ?
So given that the male ballet dancers prance around like women ..
I just sat down for a quick ten .. and the wife's watching Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Suite ballet ..
Now the music is absolutely amazing but the show could easily be improved...
The male and female dancers all dance the same way so I'm thinking ditch the blokes and the women are definitely overdressed so let's get them in some classy looking lingerie !
Seems a no brainer to me ....
I'd watch it anyways :)

Because it’s a sport / art meant for anyone who wants to do it. Besides that, there are absolutely differences in what the males do vs females in terms of what they wear and the moves they execute, although basic ballet technique is universal. For instance, males lift the females..... females go on pointe, males don’t, etc.
Also, gross.

Don't mess with ballet! And don't underestimate how much training, strength, skill, talent & dedication it takes to make it "look effortless"...it's FAR from that.
You can keep all the head-banging sports like boxing. Football would be far better if they played "tag" & got points taken off for unnecessary roughness, IMO.
And the athletes might survive their later years too. ;) Let's see some skill (I love to watch most of the Olympics) instead of crash & bash... same reason I'd rather watch dressage than horse-racing. Skill, not force.

Prance around like women....that's some emasculation right there. Male ballet dancers are tough as crap.

In the UK there are steeplechase events specifically for horses aged 10 and up. In the US you'd be hard-pressed to find a four year old still on the track.

They're clearly super fit and strong ... just seemed to be doing the same moves as the women today ...
My post was also kinda tongue in cheek , peeps :)

How about pay them a real salary....
Give me some old original MMA, not this overpaid commercialized junk going on now.
You know, when people played for the love of their sport, not endorsements.

Dressage isn't what it used to be.
Now the horses get rushed through the training, short cuts, corner cuts, you see fake collection and roll kur, rather then true collection and a horse that engages its hind end.
But I guess whenever competition comes into play, all bets are off.
I've had the MOST fun sorting cattle. I've only done it once and my horse has only done it twice. I thought she would literally poop her pants when she would see the cattle. While its in her "blood" she's never been around them and is a rather spooky/explosive mare. But, she took to it like a fish to water. Was catty, moving left, right, back, whohooo, what fun that was !!! And that needs true collection, to free up the front to be able to move so quick and on a dime :)
I always find horses perform better when they see a POINT to what they are doing. At least part of their career. I know of one dressage rider/trainer that lets her horses cut and sort cattle in their "off" time. She says it makes a light bulb come on in the horses head. It suddenly makes sense to them to learn to collect themselves, to be able to change speeds, to move laterally, etc. They aren't the most catty of horses, but they can still have fun doing some "real" stuff :)
Ballet? I find it incredibly boring. However, I can appreciate how STRONG those dancers are. How balanced. I don't doubt for one minute that they put true and hard work into this and that it is not for the faint of heart. Just not my thing.

Yeah ... as I said the music is magnificent but purely from a bloke's viewpoint I think I could be onto something :)

Pretty sure in almost any competitive sport or art, the men and women execute the same or similar things. Swimming, track, soccer, basketball. I'm just saying.
"Prance around like women"... considering both professional male and female ballet dances could probably break our skulls with a single kick. Lol

I realise I was probably on to a loser criticising something like ballet but it's just not something I enjoy watching ... it's the way the guys move around really ... I'm old fashioned in some respects ..
So suggesting women only performers in lingerie was just wishful thinking and of course .. tongue in cheek :)

Easy solution...just don't watch it. I don't watch ballet very often but I enjoy it when I do. What I don't like is watching people bash each other, like in boxing,
so I don't watch it either.

Old fashioned or sexist? Let's just say it's a good thing you posted your opinion here and not on social media lol

Soooo why do they have male ballet dancers ?
You’ve just got it so backwards. In reality, female ballet dancers WISH they could move like the males do.
https://youtu.be/PK6uefZXQRw
Look at their height, speed, agility. LOOK AT THEIR MUSCLES. Some strong m’fers. Female ballerinas are amazing athletes as well, but just can’t compare in some regards. Thanks, anatomy.

Re: Soooo why do they have male ballet dancers ?
How do you know that women don't like watching those athletic men showing off their strength dancing around in tight fitting clothing?
-
The saying old fashioned means you know what you say is wrong but continue to say it. Emascuting men (depriving a man of his maleness or identity) because you see them doing a prodominently female profession is just wrong. And putting said women in lingerie....don't get me started.

Not to get your goat but..... Male or female sexism is sexism. People should be free to be themselves without criticism or being looked down on as long as they are not truly hurting someone.

I'm guessing (Zincubus) that you don't like male ice skaters either? It's much the same as ballet, with added danger of ice & blades. I watch more ice skating
than I do ballet...but either way, their gracefulness belies the strength & massive skill involved.

Ice skating is fun and challenging. I am a guy and learned how to ice skating before roller skating, for fun only but if I had other desires in life why would it be wrong? Oh well.

I used to ice skate just for fun...gliding so fast across the ice feels so free, & a bit like flying. Especially when you can control it so you don't get bruised, lol.
And then it becomes "dance" when put to music...it's awesome, for guys OR gals.
-
Ballet is effeminate. No doubt. Just like athletics are very masculine. But there are plenty of female athletes so why not male ballet dancers. They're as fit as any athlete.
-
Re: Soooo why do they have male ballet dancers ?
Well I will reiterate, one last time , most of my post was tongue in cheek .... I just don't 'get any pleasure' from watching male ballet dancers ... move the way they do ..
Look I love boxing and some UFC stuff ( McGregor getting pounded) so ballet and me were never gonna be a good match :)

lol this was a funny thread. I don’t judge u for saying u don’t like it. Everyone is different and as long as your not hateful then to heck with the haters! And I dare someone to say something about the skimpy clothing comment because no one said anything when a woman said she liked watching the men in tights “tight tights” lol had to

That was in response to zinc joking that he'd rather see the women in lingerie and saying to take out the men altogether lol
The tights are the ballet dancer's original outfit lol. It would be the same if men said they liked watching female ballet dancer's in tights and didn't make any comments about the men, which is just fine.

Personally, I forgive you...:rofl:We don't all like the same things, & you're entitled to your opinions. (We can't even agree on the "best snake"!)
I also think that our culture makes it more difficult for some men to voice their appreciation of things like ballet, dance, & ice skating because
they fear being labeled gay for showing any interest whatsoever. No big deal...I have a brother, I DO understand.

Zinc,
Having gotten to know you a little better, I know you meant no harm nor offense. You said what you meant, in the entire context though, it came across as a bit crude ;) But we have all said stuff before and then thought: "foot>mouth". I know I have.
So, no harm, no foul.
Lets get back to the regular programming. ;)

Oh I dunno - watching you learn to duck and dive the slings and arrows of adversity might make you appreciate the male ballet stars more.
If it helps I think soccer is the biggest waste of a possible potato field ever - not something I can get away with saying in the U.K.

Kind of a strange, sexist, misogynistic thing to say on a public forum, but I suppose that's the nature of the beast. I didn't read past the first page, so forgive me if I'm off subject material.
