    Successful Shed!
Ok y’all....I think if we ever played “My Snake is Better Than Yours”, I’d win. lol

Went to check on Monty today and found this sitting outside his hide. Looks like he even took out the “garbage” when he finished. lol

Opened the hide and he’s completely clean. No eye caps, nothing. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4ce6121e75.jpg

Congrats! (To you for good husbandry, and to Monty for doing a good job, haha.) You've definitely got me beat in this department - Iggy is a good eater, but his first shed with me was an absolute mess, and I'm still awaiting his second shed with trepidation and a watchful eye on his humidity.

Though speaking of monitoring humidity ... is Monty always so good about leaving that Acurite to sit next to his hide? I've got my Acurite tucked in a corner and partially blocked off with a fake plant, and Iggy still finds ways to knock it over or punt it halfway across his tub, lol!

    LOL! Iggy sounds "active".

Thanks!! As you may have already guessed, he's never messed with the Acurites. I have 2. lol They're both just sitting up against the back wall completely exposed. Maybe try hiding them "in plain sight"? Sounds like Iggy may like to explore in the "bushes" from time to time.

    Good luck with your shed!!

Look at you Monty, looking fresh and perky!

And speak of the devil, I just checked in on Iggy now and he's gone grey, so that shed is imminent. Thanks for wishing me luck, I may need it! And I think maybe you're right about just putting the Acurite out in plain sight. He does like to poke around in the plants, and then before you know it, he's doing this:

Well, not quite...it might take a few days to go clear before he sheds. ;)

And I think he's trying not to hurt your feelings, so he's playing with the 'toys' you left him. Hahaha!

Right you are, haha. Last time it felt like he went through the entire shedding process almost alarmingly quickly (went grey, went clear, then suddenly a blizzard of shed skin bits all over his tub), but we'll see how he does this time.

Also, @Shayne, what morph is Monty, and how old is he? Love the brightness and contrast on him!

    He’s a “Firefly 66% Het. Hypo.”....also called a “Yellow Pastel”.

Yea, one of the reasons I was so drawn to him was his obvious contrast in such a vibrant color.

    Thanks!!

Glad mine aren’t the only ones that tackle the Acurite. Every snake except my 7’ boa moves those things all over the cage, half the time knocking them face down. :sigh2:

Yes, Duncan is my 7’ redtail boa, and the only one who doesn’t regularly wreck her cage. Makes no sense that the biggest one only shuffles her hides around a bit, but all of the little one redecorate....even the 2018 hatchlings. :hmm:

Very cool. It’s always neat to stretch the skins out. You can often still see the patterns, which I find pretty cool.

Ah, a Firefly! That does explain the brightness. Already a little charmer at 6 months old!

And LOL @Dianne, it sounds like most of yours also like to play hockey with the poor Acurite. At this point, as long as it isn't blocking anything and I can still read the display, I don't even bother setting it back in place and just let Iggy continue pushing it around. Whatever keeps him entertained ...

At this point I just flip the Acurite upright or turn it to face the front of the cage and hope for the best. There are times the littlest ones move it halfway across the cage. I only have one per cage, mostly to track humidity and ambient temps. When drug directly under the rhp, kinda misses the point. All of my bp’s rearrange the hides as well...they’re never where I put them. lol

Haha! I also have just the one Acurite in the tub, for the same purpose. Fortunately, my boy is still small and his hides are on the heavier side, so he hasn't been able to shift those around much. Shayne, you are a lucky individual indeed, if you've got TWO Acurites in there and Monty is still gracious enough to leave them alone!

Yea, I’ve been told that it isn’t fair for me to have such an awesome snake for the 1st one I’ve ever owned.

Got him from a reptile expo. on Dec. 8th and when we got there, I told my wife I just need some time to interact one-on-one for about 20 min. to see if I can pick up on a “vibe”. 10 min. into handling Monty I knew he was meant for me. We weren’t there maybe 30 minutes. lol

That's probably just a touch of jealousy ....

I started with a 'normal' then progressed through to a Pastel , Mohave/Mojave , Lesser Platinum , Pastave then a pair of unrelated HC Albinos :)

Took me years to get to my Hi White Pied :)

There just weren't as many options or brilliant paint jobs around but if I was starting up today I'd probably have chosen the one you got !!

I love seeing a "love at first sight" pet story like yours! I definitely had a similar experience, though the reptile show I attended was in mid-October. I browsed from table to table for quite a while, and saw and handled several awesome snakes - but none of them "clicked" until Iggy was plopped into my hands, and immediately periscoped his little head up to look at me. Instantly smitten. Like you said, just the right vibe.

Na never been interested in breeding ( well not snakes anyway lol)
    .
I see something beautiful and find a way of getting it .. in the past I had a nucleus of keepers and others that were bought cheap or small and were traded over the years .
    I had 24 now I'm down to 7.
Snow Boa , the pair of Albino royals , the Hi White Pied , a King x Milk hybrid , my first Corn snake and a hatching Coastal King

I won't cram your thread with pics of mine , just my Pied which you may like ..https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...72797c7c77.jpg

Yesss! When you know, you just know. Love that! He was actually the 3rd one I held. 1st one was handed to me and the breeder says, "This one's a little :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:." lol It took about 15 sec. for me to see that one just wasn't meant for me. With the 2nd one, I was holding him and a kid walks up and says, "Ohhh look, he's wagging his tail! How cute!", and BLOOP, there it was. He takes a massive dump in my hand. So, #3 was the lucky winner! :gj:

Don't ya love it when they periscope? :)

Pffft, I laughed so loud at snake #2 taking an ill-time dump, I'm pretty sure my neighbors heard me. But hey, at least now you know that if you catch Monty "wagging" his tail, it's time to give him a wide berth and grab the cleaning supplies! Out of curiosity, do you happen to recall the morphs of the other two snakes you were considering at the time? Were they also Pastel combos like Monty?

:lmao: Yea, I couldn't help but laugh when it happened. The breeders looked like they were just waiting on me to freak out but I think being a medic for the past 22 yrs. has a natural way of desensitizing you.

Both of the others were also Pastels. I knew that was the color I wanted but I just needed some time to pick up on the vibe, if possible.
