    Saving sheds
Okay DD is getting ready to shed again. What is the best way to preserve the shed so that Cody can take it to school for show & tell?

man, that would be a cool show-and-tell.

i just dry them and stick them in a drawer.

Well, get the shed out of the tank as soon as you can.. preferably when it's still moist. I unroll (if necessary) the moist skin and drape it over something so that only either end is touching something (not the middle, as the skin tends to stick to whatever it dries on) leave it over night, and carefully remove it from whatever it's draped on.

I save most of my sheds.. I have boa sheds wrapped around my bed and my curtain rods, kingsnake sheds hanging off bookshelves.. etc etc.

Thanks, Shelby. Anyone want to send some our way the next time your BP's shed. Cody is working on a science fair project. While DD's are great, we have yet to get a complete shed, and he's almost an adult, we'd like to show the progression. PM if you can he would appreciate the help ;)

I usually let them dry out and then seal them in on a ziplock bag....unless they left me a present in it :P

Each snake has had it's own shed bag, but that may change very soon. I will probably still keep my first snake's shed skin though, considering I have his baby sheds, and he's over a year old now.

He's also like 3 feet long now.

I saw a sign in a pet shop recently that was asking anyone who had unwanted snake sheds, would they bring them in to the pet shop. I never asked at the time, but it's kinda been bugging me - what do they want with these? I can understand snake owners keeping the sheds from their own snakes, but do they have some other value for a pet shop?

Maybe they wanted to display them. I have fun 'decorating' with mine.

The better store near us (Animal Kingdom) often does presentations at local elementary schools etc - my guess is they either use them for demonstration purposes or mayhaps just to give away?

I know that if you put a male's shed in with a female for awhile before the do the dirty, when you put the male in he is a testosterone nightmare. :) Better than viagra!

I know that you can easily preserve a snake shed with some heat lamination :) It works great.

I think he misworded it and meant female shed with the male. Not sure though. :)

I store my sheds by unrolling them(if they've dried up, I mist them with a spray bottle a bit to loosen them up), then I place them in a ziplock bag with a piece of paper that says the snakes name, the details on the shed(whether it all came off easily, any stuck pieces, how long it took, etc) and then the time of finding the shed. Then I slip the paper in with the shed, and place it in a shoe box with the dozen others I have, lol. When I first got my female, I said to myself "I'll keep all her perfect sheds..that's all", and so far all her sheds have been perfect, so I've got quite a collection going. But yeah, they shouldn't be too hard to store until your son(like his name btw ;)) takes it to class. In my experience, they just dry out and get nice and crispy, but don't go bad or rot or anything. I've had Pelota's first shed for over a year and a half now, and it's still as fresh as it was when I first saved it, lol. :)
