Selene has arrived...Banana Mojave
She is just stunning in person...even prettier than the breeder's photo. I am very pleased with her. A big "Thank You" to Dynasty Reptiles.
She's 431 grams and is currently settling in to her quarantine tub. Even after what I am sure was a less than smooth trip, she was very calm and inquisitive once out of the bag. I think she'll be a charming new addition to the crew. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a31082cd0f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6dd39cbbdd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...668ec08ee3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...35d489f29f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...46d216385a.jpg

Re: Selene has arrived...Banana Mojave
She was actually pretty funny when she started to uncoil...tongue flicking in every direction. You could almost see her going “what’s this, what’s that, what are you?” She rotated in 4-5 different directions from that one periscope position to taste her new surroundings. You can just see her tongue in that photo. Once she was in her tub she cruised through the two cardboard hides, over them, a lap around the tub and over the Acurite gauge. I’m pretty sure she’ll be one who regularly wrecks the cage. :D
She’s larger than I was expecting, so to me the tub is a bit small...I like to give my critters plenty of room to move around. My original game plan when I bought Sabrina off of CL (with tank) was to house her in the tank she came in and Selene would go into a small spare cage (2’x1’x1’) for the duration of her quarantine. Sabrina’s tank is one of those with a sliding lid...and exactly what Eli escaped from many years ago. Since they are both being quarantined in my reading room (lots of books and shelves), I did not want to play hide and seek with an escapee...I just do not trust those style tanks. So, initial plan was scrapped. Sabrina got the cage, and I went out to pick up a tub and uth for my first foray into using a tub...already had the thermostat. It’s a pretty simple setup, small uth on a Jumpstart thermostat, just enough room for two hides and a water bowl with a small bit of space left over. It’s temporary, and I know she’ll be fine...but I like to give my babies the best I can. :P

And an adorable "cage-wrecker" for sure! :snake: Can't blame her, it's gotta feel REALLY WEIRD being shipped. (the sci-fi movies where humans are abducted by
aliens come to mind...) I also take it as a healthy sign & a great attitude.

She's sooo pretty!!! I love the name you picked for her as well. Glad she made it safe and sound. Did she come with a little card that listed her birth date?

A couple of my recent bp additions had Greek mythology names (Artemis & Orion), so I was looking for something along those lines that meant ‘light’. Selene was the Greek goddess of the moon, so I thought that was perfect for her with the pale yellows. I’m really looking forward to seeing how she changes as she grows.
Yes, Chun Ku (Dynasty Reptiles) included a little card with her sex, morph, date of birth (9/29/17), last feeding date, and his ID number for her. It also had some tips for setting her up on the flip side, with a little ruler showing the size of the prey she is currently eating. I am beyond pleased with her and with the whole purchase. Chun contacted me the same day I made payment (Black Friday), worked out a shipping schedule that both met temps and worked with my schedule (which can be squirrelly with meetings), and packed her extremely well. She was nice and warm in a small styrofoam container in the box, well padded with unprinted newspaper, and secured in her bag in the middle of it all. I need to stay off of MM for a while, but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from him again.

She totally looks like a goddess of the moon- or many moons, since she is covered in them. [emoji16]
Those little cards Chun sends are fantastic. I still use mine to record feedings, and I love how many details he includes about each snake, despite how many he has. Selene is a month and 13 days younger than my Horatio, so not siblings, but that was a long shot anyhow.
Very excited to watch her grow!

In addition to her color, I also really liked her pattern...the dorsal stripe and the cool little squigly dorsal mark about 1/3 of the way down her back, just at the end of her first stripe.
I’m definitely saving the card. I was surprised at the amount of detail he provided. Most of the time you’re lucky if you get birth year, much less exact date. I also liked seeing exactly what size prey she was eating...saves me some guesswork.

Re: Selene has arrived...Banana Mojave
I am very pleased to share that Selene ate her first f/t weanling rat with me last night. She poked at it a bit with her nose, then retreated into her hide again. I laid it down in front of the opening with the face pointed toward her. Within a minute her head was back out and she just started eating it, no strike and coil. I’m wondering if Dynasty Reptiles already feeds f/t. Either way, I’m very pleased that she ate. :)

That is so awesome !!! Isn't it a great relief when they arrive looking good and healthy and then go on to be so uncomplicated.
I also keep records on every hatchling I bred. Hatch date, parents genes, feeding, shedding, weight. They go home with those records and a picture of them as a hatchling on those records.
I don't keep exact records on my adults when it comes to feeding, unless there is a problem. I do monitor weight and shed and if there is a fast. But the little ones that go on to new homes come with exact records.

I didn’t provide photos when I bred my corns and boas, but did give birthdate and feeding records. None of mine were sold until they were consistently eating, which was never an issue with the boas...little garbage disposals that they were. lol I do keep feeding records for all of my snakes, but that’s about it. No records for who shed when or who pooped when. I know if I’ve cleaned the cage, which for most of the youngsters is weekly, and I know from the feeding records when to expect it for the adults.
I am starting to keep weight records with my newest additions. I’m tracking growth for this years hatchlings, and weight on Artemis and Orion. So far Artemis hasn’t eaten since I got her on 9/2/18 but isn’t really dropping weight, only 2 grams in the last month and a half. Orior will be getting his second weigh in this weekend to see where he is since I got him on 10/27/18.
As for Selene and Sabrina, I’m thrilled that we’re off to a good start. :D Two fussy feeders are enough right now.

Dynasty seems to vary a bit in what they feed. When I was looking at snakes originally, it seemed like anything 2015-ish and older was still on live prey, but anything newer than that seemed to be on f/t mice (and that was what mine was on when I got him). However, looking at MM now, it looks like the '18 babies are eating live mice, so Chun has either gone back to that, or is waiting to convert them until they're older. :confusd: Since yours is a '17 snakeling, I bet she was eating F/T mice.
Congratulations on the rat! It looks like you won't have to worry about her being picky about switching. :D Artgecko also has a Dynasty snake that converted to rats, and even though I waited a while, mine had no problem either. Chun seems to breed BP's that are just happy to eat any rodent you want to feed them.

From the records Chun sent, he had switched her to small rats, but I don’t know for sure that they were f/t. I’m pretty sure they must have been from her lack of strike and just eating it as soon as it was set down. The only snakes I have that do that are the ones I raised on f/t from hatchlings. My other new girl, Sabrina (normal Mojave), was the bigger surprise to switch as she had only been fed mice, and I didn’t pre-scent like I normally would for a switch. To say I’m pleased with these two is an understatement. And every time I look at Selene I just grin...she’s such a pretty girl and she’s all mine. You can almost hear me mutter “my precious” while I watch her. :D
