Tempting...
Tempting, though I wouldn't need or want the cage that they're trying to get rid of...
https://memphis.craigslist.org/pet/d...745899313.html
Not the greatest peaks on the saddles or eyelashes on the head markings but looks to be in good body condition and helluva red tail.
-
I think she is beautiful.
If you lived near me, I'd help you out a bit with the purchase price by buying that tank.
-
Re: Tempting...
She really is pretty. Trying not to make an impulse acquisition... for such a low price it makes me curious. Too good to be true? Also a 2.5-3hr drive from me. Hrmmm...

Suriname Boas are incredible! If you have the space go for it!

Re: Tempting...
That tail wow and the marking's are outstanding, that for sure

The widows peaks are incredible, one hell of a nice looking Boa. Seems like a great deal.
-
And the enabling continues unabated... (I think she's pretty too, btw!)

Beautiful snake.
I think you'd be best off getting a female Poki though. In the event you ever want to breed boas, you'll want to keep the Poki pure.
However if you just want a boa, I can easily see why you are tempted.
Honestly, I think you'd be happier raising something very young and watching it go through all of the stages.
Hope all is well on your end brother!
I just had my BC out earlier today.

You just nailed every thought going through my head lol!
I like the thought of breeding one day, but realistically, if I haven’t pursued it yet in 23yrs of keeping is that likely to happen? Who knows. If I did breed boas I would like to keep a pure bloodline if possible.
I do kind of just want another boa though and an empty 6’ cage here makes it even more tempting...
And I do enjoy raising critters from worms to beasts hah! I would miss out on that here but at ~6’ (and honestly she looks smaller than that) she’s still got a little growing to do.
Thank you for the well wishes. Not sure where things are headed but it’s anxiety inducing for sure.
Glad you and Sniper are enjoying each other!

I'd try to contact the seller with some questions...maybe you'll get a better "feel" one way or the other after you talk with them, & before making a long drive.

Re: Tempting...
She’s a pretty girl. I can see why you are tempted. After adding 5 bp’s this year, I am not the one to preach self control. lol If you are looking for a good pet, it seems like this would be a good deal.

Have you noticed that the cage isn't real clean...I'm seeing shed skin & urates for sure in photos. Wonder if she's as "docile" as they say? I do like her looks.

I noticed that also. I also wondered why there were no out of cage photos? Nice looking, but she looks a little “ready to strike” in the pics? 😆

Yeah, that’s a definite turn off. I may ask them a few questions and see how they answer. I don’t “need” another snake right now, but it is a good looking critter...

Re: Tempting...
She’s apparently 7yrs old. They’ve had her for 5yrs. Don’t remember who the breeder was. $150 for the snake alone or $200 for her and whatever else I want out of the cage. I’m not gonna rush into this but I’ll think on it.

Looks to have good body weight...looks healthy but ?

Re: Tempting...
The only thing I would add regarding the potential for a nippy adult is that my Colombian rainbow was supposed to be aggressive. He’s been a great pet for over 20 years. If you move forward, you have more than enough experience to evaluate personality in person.

Hard to say, but if she's anything like the BCI I used to have, she might be seeing them move around the tank (taking photos), seeing some confusing reflections and
hoping there's prey out there somewhere? I'll bet this is their first and only snake & they're starting to get nervous with her feeding response + size...;)

I personally would find a boa with more of a pedigree. But thats just me. Like Gio said, I would look for female poki in case you want to breed. Me personally, I'm waiting for that perfect Peruvian...which isnt coming atm...but then again, i dont have $1000+ to throw down on one atm anyways after buying Alex lol.
And i also kind of want another GTP or possibly an ETB id i can find a USCBB one that isnt going to cost me a kidney. GTPs are kind of addictive lol.

That’s honestly the route I’ll likely take eventually. Even if I don’t get a female poki having something very locale specific is appealing. Kinda just started this thread as a sounding board to see what other folks thought about the animal. I’m sure it’s a fine critter but if I do get another Suriname I’d like something that would be a good mate for Leonard. Also, $200 just sounds a little too good of a deal to be true or worth rolling the dice.
If I don’t get another Suri then maybe a Guyana or a BCO. Peruvian BCC are awesome, but maybe a bit large for me. BCO might be a bit big for that matter but I’m not rushing into anything right now

It’s a good looking animal, and I think you’re right not rushing. I think maybe they could of tired of the animal? You can see they’re not caring for it properly, and probably not feeding it right either. It’s a hard call. It’s always best to think it though.

Big? You got the Godzilla of Kalatoa retics lol. It would take 10+ years for a Peruvian to get big. And to be honest, if i see a boa over 10 feet, i am pretty amazed. You see lots of people claiming to have 'big boas' but they magically shrink next to a tape measure....just like manhood in a cold pool lol. I personally wouldnt be put off by the 'claimed' size of a boa.
You can always go for something like a Brazilian BCC or a Venezuelan BCC but if it is a really red tail you are after, cant really beat a suriname for that.

True, but a boa that length would be as big as a loaf of bread and weigh 40-50lbs hahah!
Those Brazilian BCC are awesome. There’s something appealing about a big, dark BCO though. Ziggys new critter really opened my eyes to how unique those snakes are.

Well you can also go for an IMG BCI. They get really black....but also cost a kidney lol. Or yeah, you could go for a BCO. Lots of options.
Could also look into a GTP. They come in all sorts of colors and imo are pretty easy to care for and dont get huge. Heck even a big adult will be content eating adult mice their whole life. Only downside is USCBB ones tend to be kind of expensive.

Re: Tempting...
Oh grrrrrl, that is one beautiful boa! If you can find restraint, you are a better human than I!😂

Just a thought on her price, most of the adult boas I see on CL around here are in the $100-$250 range, regardless of locality. Most folks want to start with neonates or yearlings at best, so full grown adults are harder to sell. Years ago I had gotten a few adult Bci for free, three from people who knew me and were downsizing their collection, but a couple through the local Trading Post (hard copy paper like today’s CL) whose owners no longer wanted them.

I was thinking that if you did say goodbye to Phyllis that the new mansion cage would be perfect for a BC. This is a nice looking boa, if you don't care about tracing locality for breeding reasons, then it's an amazing deal! I agree that her temprement may be a bit willy simply because there are no out of cage pics and the state of the cage but it's a boa and most can be calmed down over time anyways (but it could also be - fresh shed snake in a nice pose, so snapped pics, I've done that before). It would mostly come down to you - would you like raising a little one up and seeing how it turns out or jump right in to a nice adult and go from there.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
-
I'm rooting for that boa, if jmcrook gets her, then her luck will change and she'll have a good life from now on.

Re: Tempting...
I snoozed for too long on her and just checked to see that the posting has been taken down. Hope that girl went to a good home though

Ahh That's too bad. I'm sure will find something. Lot's on nice stuff out there right now.
