What Occupation Best Describes Your Job?
so i applied for a new credit card this morning. as part of the process they ask you know for personal info, work and income info, etc. etc. however there wasn't a write in box for occupation. instead there was a drop down menu for your job and it asked to select one or the one that most resembles your job. they didn't have Admin Assistant option and i was quite confused and amused by the choices.
so i ask, which ones of these is your job or most resembles your job? do we have any Vending Machine Operator(s) on the forum?
b/c of limit of poll choices (max is 40) i had to combine some of the jobs. this is indicated by an asterisk *. i hope i did a good job combining like jobs.
also these were the jobs i took off the choices (and i simplified the Student option):
- Bank of America Associate
- Student - College Freshman
- Student - College Junior
- Student - College Senior
- Student - College Sophomore
- Student - Graduate Student
(also FYI u guys - it's been my long time goal of mine to create a poll on the forum that maxes out the poll choices. and today, i've accomplished that goal. so Yay! me! hehe.)

this doesn't have any sort of human resources option... guess I'll have to put "social worker" for myself

Not multi-select? Full-time student (almost done :sweeet:) and part-time worker here :p.

Re: What Occupation Best Describes Your Job?
Also two options, full-time student and part time job :)

I've been turning wrenches for most of my adult life but am trying my hand at insurance for the time being. I just got my insurance license and started as an agent in August. I thought it'd be nice working a desk job and now I'm not so sure haha. I'm really starting to miss working with my hands and am feeling the pay cut a bit as well.

Are you working with the public (selling to individuals) or working at an insurance company/broker? I’ve done both...currently working for a broker the last 8 years. It’s interesting, at least to me, but also can be challenging (people!).

I work for a company called Gohealth. Hcsc contracts with us to sell for them. I sell Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in 5 states. It's a pretty big change of pace that's for sure. Yes people can really be difficult. Most are pleasant to deal with but some really test my patience lol. I don't mind it for the most part but I struggle with sitting all day. I start getting pretty stir crazy. I'm thinking about getting my securities license as well so I can work with certain types of life insurance. I think there would be more opportunity there for me long term. Unless I go back to wrenching which is a strong possibility. It's very rewarding for me to work with my hands and see the end result.

I have been in corporate sales most of my adult life. Don’t see that as an option

I’ve done property and casualty insurance off and on for about 15 years, with admin work, a postal carrier, and landscaping sprinkled in. The desk jobs can get boring sometimes, and it depends on the pace of work. I can honestly say I have no down time at my current job, which I like. Part of that is being a supervisor, but even my team stays busy. I’m enjoying a medically induced vacation at the moment, which is odd to be sitting around doing nothing. There are definitely more opportunities when licensed for securities, and that can be an interesting field. That said, it is a lot of sitting in front of a computer and talking to people either on the phone or in person.
I miss the landscaping, but that was seasonal and not great pay...more something I took because I needed a break after the family agency closed - lots of drama with that. The post office? There’s a reason they go “postal”. lol A lot of folks don’t think about going into the trades as careers, but that’s both a disservice to trades and completely inaccurate. I have both friends and family who are mechanics, contractors, hvac technicians, etc. Some if them net far more than I do annually, and all of them are doing well. If I hadn’t been raised with my Dad being a lifelong agent, and spent many summers working at the agency, I probably would not have gone into office work. One career that I seriously considered for a while was becoming a mechanic, specifically for motorcycles.

Hmmm,
Nothing really covers mine either. :/
I work for the uk government processing benefit/ welfare? for the sick and disabled - over here we are called civil servants.
Not a job I thought I'd ever have but most days we get to help somebody in need.

Re: What Occupation Best Describes Your Job?
I said "nurse" although its for animals... there is a movment to change "vet tech" to "Veterinary Nurse/RN" to sound more professional, but I really don't care either way (unless being labeled as an RN comes with a significant raise)
I could have gone "scientist" since I have a degree in climatology, but since I have yet to actually use it for earning any kind of wage, I felt that I could not say it was my job

I said, "cashier/clerk/server," since that was the closest I saw to my position at the library. I do handle money and a cash register, sometimes, and I guess I serve patrons by helping them find books, giving them library cards, or answering their (sometimes very odd) questions.
There is nothing on that list that describes herding cats, including the invisible ones that only the facility owner can see, at the race track. :P

i think that just shows how this application is at the same time both rigid and lenient w/ their applicants. rigid b/c u have to select one of their choices and but lenient b/c u can conform to a job that's not really your own. there's no option for multi-select or others.

Hahaha, I like that logic! And PLEASE, with the world wide interweb as your witness, take me out to pasture and put me out of my misery if I'm still cooking for a living in five years.
6 game win streak...and counting....hoping to knock off hila this week to jump into first place!

I thought I would put the first vote on there for therapist. I am a trauma therapist and behavior specialist with kids. I mainly work with kids who have been through severeabuse/neglect or have been molested. I did group therapy with parolees in the past, which I liked a lot...I'm fairly small so people tend to think I'm crazy when I told them I would be alone in a building with a froup of big guys with anger management issues, fresh out of prison. Honestly though, I never had any problems. Also, it's way easier to work with anger management issues than it is to convince a child that being hurt in some way was not his/her fault.

I like the "Cigarettes Distributor" choice! Who comes up with this stuff?
