    Hector's progress thread.
Hey all, just sharing Hector, he is a high percentage kalatoa male and 285g, 1 year old and 3.5ft long.
He came from cold-blooded in rainham essex UK, 75%sd 25%dwarf selaya 100% het genetic stripe.
Got him for half price from Paul (the manager known to work with Bob clark), he said he would make me an offer I couldn't refuse £100 he was up for £195!
Very food driven in the Viv but fine when out, started hook training, hopefully he stays under 10ft lol.
Gonna be a fun journey, hope you enjoy:-)

Maybe a little silly enticing him forward like this, another member said he might of smashed his face eeek.
He has a few marks from the rubbing he was doing in the little rub at the store, already healing tho so that's good...
When I first met him the guy pulled his rub out and he latched onto the side of it, guessing Everytime that opened he got fed, poor little mucker.

    Feeding video later today.

Thanks, that was how I was talking last year:-)
Get one, SD males shouldn't get much bigger than a large corn snake, they are awesome you won't regret it, so much character.

Quick bit of for fun maths...
25% dwarf male Max size 14ft
    75%sd male Max size 8ft

    So...
    25 × 14 ft = 350
    75 × 8 ft = 600

    350 + 600 = 950 ÷ 100% = max 9.5ft snake?

Sounds logical but probably very far from the truth lmao....

LOL This guy will be 10 ft easily. Corn snakes are 5-6 ft. But I love your optimism, I really do :D :gj:

Kalatoa is 5-7ft with some females occasionally hitting 9ft...
If you get a pure kalatoa to can get a small one...
I'm fully expecting 10ft from my guy, 5ft would be an antibiotic climax tbh...

Quite a few sub 5ft breeding SD males about if you do some digging.

    Hector's progress thread.
Wow ... I'd be scared of the snake grabbing or biting down on the sharpish metal tongs ...especially holding the body upright ..

I use plastic kitchen tongs , warm the rodent well with a hairdryer and dangle it upside down - held by the tail .. as I understand Royals just strike at the ' heat-signal' not the rat shape ...

I usually hold the rat by the tail tbh, it was for the video.
My boas have a good aim tho, Hector's a bit manic so I might have to rethink that if he gets some serious size lol.
Cheers rich, I'm not just saying this cause he is new, retics are actually awesome... Well this one is at least.
Seems to be puppy dog tame ATM but very very alert with it. I've never had a snake that actively comes to see ya (for whatever reason, probably food) nearly Everytime I walk up to his tank.
I think their eyesight must be fantastic, the big eyes give character too as he eyeballs me.
I hope he keeps his inquisitive nature and doesn't turn into a lazy
Sedate snake like Brian barczyk's Lucy seems to be.

Nice lump Saturday after a small rat:-)
    https://i.imgur.com/wslGF7V.jpg

I'm a little worried he is gonna be too small, I'm hoping he hits 10ft'ish... I keep seeing SD retics 6-7ft and skinny like a 5ft carpet and 3-4yrs old. I'm guessing he should bulk out as he gets older tho... Bigger than 12' would be an issue for me too tho lol!

I'm not a Retic guy, but I am aware of someone in my state who was once possibly the largest breeder in the country and he used to have estimates of size based on dwarf/sd percentage, male or female, feed schedule on his website which is now down for rebuilding......you could always send him a message on Facebook and he's pretty friendly from what I can remember of talking to him years ago. He's mainly into Monitors now but I think it would be worth your time to get in contact with him and ask. Tell him what you have and he'll probably give you a very good estimate. Kris is the name I believe.

Me personally? Bigger the better. Just keep in mind you'll be safe due to the fact that you don't have a mainland Tiger female though.....I swear they are the largest ones I see consistently online. :gj:

Thanks allot pal, unfortunately I don't use Facebook... Maybe I could use my missus account later tho.
My boas are a decent size now at 7' and 10-11lb, he is hopefully gonna surpass them, don't get me wrong I love him to death it's just after hunting for a SD I'm thinking maybe I should have gone pure dwarf, maybe selayer.
We will see, he is already putting on good weight with me, maybe he will be a monster yet.

Cheers pal I've watched his videos, subbed to reach out reptiles.
My guy isn't pure tho, I was told 75% SD 25% dwarf selayer 100% het genetic stripe.
Selayer males can get 12-14' pure kalatoa 5-8' so it's a grey area.
Hopefully he is on the larger side:-)

    Hopefully:-)
So a normal retic can be
    8' in year 1
    12' in year 2

So hector is 4' in year 1
    So maybe 6' year 2…?

He's looking great. Seems like he put on a good amount of weight in a few months. How long is he currently?
