Some exercise for the big boy..Jag!
Jag broke his yearly fast a couple of rats ago, so he gets to have some "out" time. Have had him for 9 years now and he has always been a sweetheart. I love how his colors and pattern have aged. He has such a pixelated look to him and in person the colors are so rich and almost metallic looking. Love him [emoji3590]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...898a45d47a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d8bbfe6e40.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...06a9dc5351.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d84b23cd2f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a6e09f61df.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f703be20ea.jpg

Jag is honestly one of my favorites of your collection, which is saying something considering your collection. [emoji6]

    Thanks all :)

I'm going to make a couple of modifications to his cage. Basically giving him a bigger shelf. The shelf he has now doesn't extend all the way into the corner and doesn't hug the walls, so his big body hangs over the edges in the back sometimes :(

So I'm going to build a new shelf that hugs the side and back wall and extends all the way into the corner. Will still be supported by 3 legs on each corner. Then I will either fasten some driftwood across the front edge, like I did now, or think of something else to make it look more naturalistic, while keeping it comfortable for him.

I love those home made corner shelves, because they provide extra real estate for big snakes, and they provide another hide underneath of them. Especially when you let fake plants drape down the front edge onto the floor.

I want his cage to look somewhat naturalistic, but keep it easy to maintain. He is heavy and he crushes even strong, fake plants. So his cage has 3 main parts. Shelf, Round Hide and Water bowl. The rest is some deco that can be changed/renewed. I like to keep him on dark substrate.

He usually mostly hides and even though he is big, the 3 foot Neodesha seems adequate. But lately I've been playing around with the thought of getting him a AP 11, 48"x24"x18". I want that height so that I can build another corner shelf, I don't like the long narrow shelves that can be ordered with the cage. They are narrow and go along the entire back of the cage, limiting the way once can setup taller hides or deco.

I would probably put under tank heat under the side that his big Hut-Hide sits. He loves that thing and spends a lot of time in it. And then a Radiant Heat Panel above the corner shelf. Making below that shelf and the middle of the cage the "cooler" areas.

It may be overkill, since he is a Ball Python and loves to hide, but for the times that he is out and about, he could stretch more easily and I like having this one Display cage to look at :)
When I think of the lead time with AP cages though. Sigh. I'm not a patient person and I do not want to wait 6 months. All the other cage makers do not offer the height that I want. Truthfully, I would love another Neodesha, the 48 inch one, but their store has disappeared online and they went to a ebay store only. And no cages offered as of yet. SIGH.

Thank you :)He is a Pastel Yellowbelly. I always thought they brown out quite a bit. But with him, the change only made him more beautiful. I always loved his jungly design. As a little one he was bright yellow and black. Now he is a metallic shade of colors. He is so much prettier in person :)

I just found out that the company isn't making the slant cages anymore. BUMMER. That really would have been my 1st choice, a 48" slant cage.

Now I'm not sure what to do or go with. I really do not like the middle support on the AP. I feel the doors on the PVC cages are already small (height wise) and limit visibility. Since this is a display cage I want a lot of visibility in the front.

I think Boaphile and Reptile Basics are the only ones that offer cages with one door and unobstructed view, no middle support. But I hate the fold down doors and the fact they are acrylic. I really prefer sliding glass doors.

I want the height of the cage to be a minimum of 17", too. Perhaps I'll be able to find a used 48" slant Neodesha in great shape. But the chances are low, and besides, I'm beyond paranoid to bring anything in the house that has been around other reptiles. I would have have to bleach that thing for days..

I found my Neodesha on Craigslist. I gave it a few good bleach baths and a few days to air out. I love that enclosure. Bummer they don't make them anymore!

P.S. what is Jag weighing in at these days?

I haven't actually weighed him in a while. He is so big on my small scale that I can't see the numbers, LOL!!

I need a better scale or one that displays the numbers for a few seconds longer after you remove what is on it. His highest was around 3200 gr and with the long breaks he takes from feeding, I think it probably is still around that number.

The webpage for the cages doesn't even exist anymore :( It takes you to a ebay store and they make car parts. I asked about the cages, and they said they will come be back in stock "sometime soon" but for now only the stackable ones. I much prefer the slant version for display. Dang it!!!

Since I live somewhat rural (out in nowhere really..bleh) finding a good used cage will be difficult. But I'm going to start looking ;)
