Ball Python People on FB
Anyone else see conflicting opinions in this group on facebook? I pointed some things out and ended up getting blocked. I'm glad to have this forum with some constructive criticism and helpful folks. :)

Just yesterday or the day before we heard complaints from another member.

I ditched FB over 5 years ago. And I don't miss it at all.
I have heard many of our members complaining about the BP groups on FB though (and snake groups in general on FB). There was a thread just a day or two ago about the same thing.
I heard one guy got blocked cause he put the salt shaker on the right and the pepper on the left....

Re: Ball Python People on FB
I don't remember exactly which ball python group on FB I was in but it had thousands of members that liked to pat eachother on the backs about bad advice they all agreed was good instead of listening to people with more than 1 or 2 snakes and 6 months experience.. I got banned for pointing out that by simply looking at the know it all mods page his pictures showed that he has only actually owned snakes maybe 2 years and they were in drafty, no humidity fish tanks lol

While I don't "do" Facebook at all, I've heard the same complaints about most snake groups on there...'our way or the highway' -unfriendly attitudes. :(
You're very much welcome here & feel free to have your own opinions......that's the whole point of sharing experiences IMO, learning from another's viewpoint.
Even if we pretty much agree on most basics, there ARE alternative ways to do things, & for whatever reason, some snakes may respond better to them; I see
nothing wrong with options. I'd been on other forums for a while (came here when they died off) & enjoy the positive atmosphere & lack of "drama".

Lol that sounds about right.

The ball python FB groups are wild and I'm not in a single one anymore LOL. Definitely a lot of "my way is the only correct way or you're blocked and publicly bashed" mentality.
Ball Python Enthusiasts initially was chill when it first started 3~4 years ago and only had about 2k members when I joined. Now with 10k+ members, I wouldn't be surprised if it's as bad as the rest.
I think part of the reason the forum is able to be maintained chill and relatively open-minded is that there's only a few people here lol!

In that case, shhhh!

I just join FB groups for the pics. I have found them to be pretty toxic. Everyone is a god and if you don't agree with them you get hammered.

I joined that group a week or two ago. About ready to ditch it. God help you if you do something they don't like. The rules are so strict and borderline ridiculous, and while that might work for some, to me it felt like any sense of discussion over different opinions, discussions, and just overall friendly chitchat was removed. You can't even call a ball python a danger noodle or something similar without risk of being banned. I just love the pictures honestly. This forum will always be my go to for questions and discussions, never once felt attacked here.

LOL that sounds basically just as ridiculous as that other group-that-should-not-be-named now

Re: Ball Python People on FB
All these Facebook groups seem like a bunch of Strokers, they have nothing else to do with their life except argue with people about one subject. There’s no balance to anything anymore. There’s a Rodent Breeder site too and people contradict everything you say. I’m about done with it all.

I'm in a Fb group for bearded dragons that is pretty chill, but it's the exception by far. I didn't even bother looking for a snake-related one. I've learned from past experience (dragons and ferrets) that forums like this are better for real info and less psycho.
The second I realized Fergus was staying in my home I googled "ball python forums." Ta-da! I read 40+ pages of threads, especially all the "help I'm a newbie" threads, before even bothering to make an account.

Re: Ball Python People on FB
I forgot I had part of this conversation saved. I'll spare most of the drama, but after I made some husbandry suggestions someone tried really hard to put me in my places since BPs are the same as carpet pythons and noone else disagreed. Re: Ball Python People on FB
So glad I found this forum, it looks to be reasonable and helpful!
The first group I came across was ball python people on FB. I'm new to snakes and still in the research phase, but not new to niche hobby communities or animal keeping (fish). Glad to see it's not just me who finds many of the groups ridiculous. From keeping aquariums, I thought I'd seen it all as far as pettiness and bitterness regarding disagreements on best practices, but that group is off the chain wild. It's like equal parts "ZOMG [emoji813] isn't my noodle so cute" and some of the most vitriolic people I've ever come across on Facebook, and I used to hang in political groups lol.
I wish I had the time those moderators and admins do. I swear they sit and screen every picture someone shares to nitpick. Even when I think they're right to point something out (just based on my nascent research) I don't see why anyone would ever listen to them the way they deliver the message.
