I was in the pet store on friday and in the bp tank there was a pastel/mohave looking bp in there, only 60$.

why?

Because it wasn't a pastel/mojave.

I promise they were not trying to make you feel stupid :) Your intial question may have seemed like the typical 'is this snake a morph' question, but now i understand :)

...usually pet stores and retailers will label something as 'special' or 'not normal' and charge $100 to $200 for something that is just a normal. I have seen this alot with socalled 'high golds', 'reduced', and 'alien head'....yes...i have actually seen 'alien head ball pythons' for sale at a higher price. So, yes...it is odd to see a pet store sell a nice normal for a normal price ;)

Not at all trying to make you feel stupid. Their responses was so bluntly direct that it was just funny, that's all.

Sounds like a nice norm to me. But I did get lucky and pull a very very nice
pastel male from the new petco here in Ohio last month. Paid $89.99 for him
made my DAY!!!

Wasn't a genetic pastel, but I've seen lots of petco normals that have a nice "light" look to them. ;)

I know it's a long shot but he looks as good as any I have ever seen!

adam knows because imported ball pythons pass through alot of hands....if it were an actual pastel it would have been found and sold for what it is worth...do you think people just give that kinda stuff away for basically free? :)

also...nothing is 'genetic' unless it has been breed in captivity and proven to be genetic....everything else that is sold as 'genetic' is just a guess

can you put a pic of that "pastel" love to see him/her thx

Because I am in the "business" of ball pythons and know the person that has the sole contract to supply all of the PetCo's with ball pythons (among other things) ... He is very knowledgable in ball python morphs and would not let a pastel that he could retail for $500 - $1,200 go out in a group of animals that PetCo is only paying him as low as $15.00 each for.

No doubt that it is a nice normal, but I can say with 99.9% certainty that it is not a pastel.
