    Look!
Just picked up this female today. Was about to walk out and a breeder was trying to move a few and gave me a price I couldn’t walk away from .https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d489e307ee.jpg

Very nice pickup and great price. What exactly was she tabbed as? Looks to have some jingle in her with the broken head stamp.

I was told a broken line on the head means jungle. At least that’s what a breeder said was a good visual to determine jungle.

All my snakes have the broken head stamp so not sure how true that would be. Also what does everyone think should I just get her a big enclosure to grow into or just keep her in the shoebox tub I have set up for her for a while?

Enclosure size is totally optional. Because boas grow somewhat slowly you don't need a large enclosure right away and tubs work pretty well with young ones. On the flip side you can get the adult enclosure now and not have to upgrade later. You won't lose anything either way. I have other snakes that are getting larger enclosures so the new arrivals go in QT tubs for now and have to wait their turn like the others did. :)

Got her hooked :-D I went and picked up some supplies today for the little one and I was like I’ll have to get her something different in a couple months when she gets bigger. And she was like well it looks like we will just have to get another one to put in thier when that happens lol at first she didn’t even want me to get one in the beginning lol

Congrats on the new one! Very nice-looking boa, can't wait to see how she colors up. :) Is that her dark phase in the photo you shared? You should post her fired up if you happen to catch it.

A broken head spear is a marker of jungle, it doesn't mean the snake is jungle. Jungle is a dominant morph, so unless at least one parent was jungle, your girl isn't jungle. A hypo x normal pairing would not make any jungles.

So your saying she could possibly carry the jungle gene tho?

This is the tub I set up for her. She hasn’t quite figured out the hide thing yet she has been hanging out on top of it lol. But not sure if that is her dark phase or not that was in the parking lot of the expo I got her from https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ce8f34eb39.jpg

Here is the temp and humidity with the hotspot set to 88 I spilled some water so it made the humidity spike way up if it doesn’t go back down. Should I add more holes to bring it down humidity? I’m hoping after the substrate dries a little the humidity will go back to normal it’s not siping wet but it’s definitely damper then I wanted :-/

No. Neither of her parents were jungle, and hets are visual. She’d have to have at least one jungle parent, and at least 3 markers.

With time you should figure out light vs dark. They change color daily.

Sometimes new boas don’t use their hides the first few weeks or months. They tend to feel safer up in the trees, so they’ll perch as high as they can until they feel safe. Though your hides do look too large, I’d find hides half that size.

You can add more holes to lower humidity, but be aware the analog hygrometers/thermometers are not accurate. They can be off up to 50% humidity and 30+ degrees. I’d get a digital combo, like an Acurite.

I plan to I just couldn’t get ahold of one yet and that was the only thing the local pet shop carried so I figured something was better then nothing

The hide isn’t that big I think it was just the angle and how small the tub she fits in is. It’s a old sour cream cup I cut down to fit

That’s what I get every time I pop the lid she coils up and looks like she might strike at any minute. How long should I wait to try and offer her a meal? Once she realizes I’m not food she loosens up at-least I’m assuming that’s what’s happening

Something in the meantime is good, hopefully you’ll be able to get your money back when you do upgrade.

The hide is too large. It should fit snugly, on at least 3 sides, something half that size is probably good. If she starts to use it, she’ll grow into it, though.

I would wait 1-2 weeks from the day she arrived to feed, and don’t handle until she eats for you.

    Re: Look!
I saw her little attitude tonight I have her sitting on top of my other tank in her tub and I accidentally jarred it spilling her water. So I had to take her out and change out the water and her paper towels as soon as I popped her lid she was striking at everything that moved luckily I got her by her tail and she didn’t get my fingers she just struck at anything she got close to thankfully it only took a second to get everything changed and back in the tub. That really must have pissed her off lol..
