Strange behavior from my year old hondo
My one year old Male Honduran suddenly turned into the spawn of satan. I opened his tub and he flew out at me trying to strike. He's never done that. I proceeded to get him out and it was like the exorcist lol. He spewed white urates everywhere. Continued to thrash around.

Is this normal?? What do you guys think

Well, he sounds like a very frightened snake...you (or something else) really startled him...is he going into blue, by any chance? That's been known to
increase a snake's anxiety. Poor little soul...:snake: Was anything else going on? like another family pet hanging around his cage? Hope you were able
    to duck the urates, lol...

I agree, sounds like he's freaked out.

I had a very chill BP many moons ago. All of a sudden, she started acting really defensive and striking at me even if I walked by.

We had moved her out of my room and into a large hallway in our house. Turns out the dogs were marking/peeing on her stand.

    Totally changed her personality, overnight.

I would look for any changes at all; you never know what could affect a reptile. Very different thought process/reaction process to things than us.

Could just be an off day too, but I think it's something in the environment that changed.

Any thunderstorms in your area? Bad weather puts my snakes on edge. Last year we had the remnants of a hurricane affect us inland here in CT. We didn't get much of the wind, but Shayna, my BP, was on edge.

When I went to pick her up, it was the first time in 5 years of having her I thought I might get tagged defensively. Once I got her out, she would not relax. I ended up figuring it out and putting her right back into one of her hides to ride it out.

My first thought would be change in environment. Any changes? No matter how subtle?

My second thought would be upcoming shed?

Weather also comes to mind. I know my snakes can sometimes be a bit "off" when there's a storm in town.
I figure it likely has to do with atmospheric pressure. The same way I can often tell if a storm is coming (I can feel it in my hands, knees and shoulder) I think they "feel" it too. I don't think they feel pain and soreness like we do, but I think they feel it and it changes their demeanor.

Lastly, could just be chalked up to a bad day....

Hopefully it was an isolated incident. Good luck!

Nothing changed in his tub. I may have just startled him. He is in a tub so he cant see out. I do have a cat who sometimes snoops around but she has always done that with mo effect on the snake

I checked him this morning and he seems back to normal curled up in his hide.

Hopefully this was just an isolated incident. I will keep an eye on him.

Was he musking me or do you think it was just bad timing and he had to go the bathroom right st that moment. Omg what a mess that was lol

We did have some storms come thru with drastic changes in temps

Cpuld be storm related, could just be an off day. As for musking vs peeing, it's tough to say without being there. Was there any tail rattling? If so I would say musk, if not, tough to say.

He was just thrashing and all this white stuff spewed out everywhere. Looked like liquid urates. It may have been bad timing and he just had to go.

I think he musked you. It happens to the best of us :). I also agree that it sounds like he was just startled by something and it was most likely an isolated incident.

If he was thrashing I'd say musk too. Not the best aroma in the workd either.

Cats & snakes aren't a great mix, just saying... but as far as the "shower", your nose should tell you if it was musk or not. I think he was just scared itless...

Yeah, my cat isn't allowed in my snake room. Just not worth it. She has the whole house, she doesn't need to be in the snake room

It's just possible that when your cat snooped around on previous occasions your snake was in his hide or otherwise occupied & didn't notice, but THIS time he did!?
I think that THIS time he fully picked up on her scent & it spelled "predator" to him.

I dont have a designated snake room so its impossible to keep the can contained. She really doesn't pay much attention to the snakes.

That's not the point...your snake was perhaps terrorized, from your description...and that's NOT good (nor fair) for the snake, is it?

I just had him out tonight. He was back to himself.

I find it amazing some of these comments. Like everyone doesn't have other animals or toddlers for that matter. Little common sense goes a long way. I successfully manage two dogs, two cats and six snakes without incident.

The one time my snake and a Honduran at that acts out everyone jumps on this bandwagon insinuating that my snakes are not happy or properly taken care.

I can assure you all my snakes are cared for better than most if not all on this site. I resent the negative feedback. Totally rediculous.

    My cats stay. Lol

    Have a wonderful evening.

Listen, you are the one who called your snake "the spawn of satan" and wondered why he behaved that way...we are only offering explanations, based on the
information you gave us and logic.

No one suggested you couldn't manage your household of kids & pets, nor did anyone say there were "incidents".

Kindly don't put words into our mouths that no one said or even intended...but the fact remains that our snakes have every right to be afraid of predators in
their midst, and personally I'd feel bad if another pet of MINE scared any of MY snakes, & personally I'd do everything in my power to make sure that didn't
happen ever again. Both cats and snakes are predators...but guess which one has more to fear from the other one?

You are making this "personal" and it's just not.

Once again another example of taking things so eccentrically serious. I was obviously joking about the comment "spawn of satan"

All I was looking for was verification that what I was describing was not unusual behavior for a Honduran. They tend to be wilder than a ball python .

I have since verified from a different source that what i described is pretty typical for a Honduran.

I just re-read this whole thread, and found no bandwagon, no mention of your snakes not being properly cared for and no negative feedback.

I'm not quite sure what you're resenting, your above comment was the first negativity I see in this thread....
