Stacking Exo-Terras
Hi everyone!
I've been lurking for awhile and finally have a question....I currently have my BP in a 36x18x12 Exo-Terra. Tomorrow I am picking up a 2 yr old albino :P that is housed in the same thing. Is it possible to stack the Exo-Terras? I saw a picture of it being done, but the tanks had a more square footprint and got me thinking that made it more possible, as far as stability goes.
Thank you!

What are you using as a heat source as a hot spot? Uth are only for belly heat and don't heat a cage.

I am using a UTH connected to a thermostat. The ambient air in the room keeps the ambient in the enclosure above 80°.

I would use small pieces of styrofoam the. To stack and leave room for air circulation from the screen top.

Right away, definitely not. You want to follow proper quarantine practices. But after quarantine is complete then I don't see why not. As long as proper temps and humidity are provided it should be fine.

I was just wondering if the glass can sustain the weight of more glass on top of it. I think it’ll make me nervous enough that I’ll just come up with a different setup plan. Haha

I honestly think it'll be fine. I've seen enclosures with rocks, dumbbells, all kinds of weight on top.
Do you have a quarantine plan in place?

I didn’t, but I do now. I will keep the new guy in a separate room for 90 days. Separate utensils, separate food, etc. I’ll handle my new guy after my other guy. However, I’ve only had my normal for a month.....could I not treat them both as if I’m QT? Start them both from day 1 today, as if I had a QT room and brought a new one into QT?

I would keep them seperate. The 90 days will fly by. It'll be a few weeks before you should be handling the new snake anyway.
I'm glad you're planning to QT now. Chances are all would have been fine, but why chance things?

Honestly it would make me nervous too, but while I'm familiar with them, I've never owned an Exo-terra. I mostly use glass tanks made for water, they are far sturdier.
I don't doubt the quality of Exo-terras, but adding that much vertical weight to a "terrarium" not designed for it doesn't seem like a good idea to me either...trust your gut. Failure wouldn't be pretty...

Well....I picked him up. Thank god I did. He was not in the size enclosure the guy said he was. He has one hide that he doesn’t even fit under. A heat mat that was barely attached and not on a thermostat and no heat lamp. He was so cold when I picked him up. [emoji30]He is VERY sweet though.

Poor snake...I hope there's nothing wrong with him that your quick intervention & "TLC" can't fix. :gj:
Many years ago I "rescue-bought" a 5' female w/c/imported BP that a family had for about a year after buying from the pet shop that imported her. I wasn't
in the market for a BP but they weren't asking a lot ($40) & it sure sounded like she needed help. I was right...their son had lost interest, & the only heat (in
a well-air conditioned desert home!) was a hot rock that had broken & was unplugged for some time...AND the poor snake was covered with TICKS! They said
"oh, we thought those are just her scales...?" :( And they asked me if I wanted a dog too....they had 2 & since both adults worked full time (as realtors) their
carpet was covered with doggy poo/pee stains...but while I couldn't take a dog, my mom did! She went with me out of curiosity, LOL...I come from a family of
animal lovers & we did what we could, not one regret & TLC to spare. ;) So good luck with your new "baby".

Grrrr! How can people be so ignorant? I asked this kid why he was selling him and he said, “because I bought him when I was drunk.”!!! [emoji36] He was drunk when I got there at 4pm too.

:O OMG! What a loser...that is just SO sad...but for him to have kept the snake would have been even worse, so at least he knew when to quit?

By the way, :welcome: and lurk no more, you belong with us.

Haha! Thank you!! We’re going to get them both into an AP T10 as soon as we can, so I’m sure I’ll have tons more questions at that time. :)

Hey now, not all people with alcohol issues are losers. I am a raging alcoholic /addict coming up on 6 years sober.
Unfortunately, alcoholism is a very real disease. We wouldn't be calling him a loser for being diabetic or if he couldn't care for his pets because he had cancer, now would we?

Sorry, I wasn't thinking about you nor about anyone else with an alcohol issue...I was talking specifically about that guy...a guy who made bad decisions...
and yes, alcohol is yet another bad decision, but I was actually responding to THIS description by the OP:

So Craig, please don't put words in my mouth & don't make something personal that isn't, okay? When it came to caring for that snake, the guy was a "loser", but so were the well-heeled
people in Palm Springs that I got a tick-covered ball python from many years ago, and as far as I know they weren't drinkers, just people who got pets as toys & didn't take care of them.
Maybe I shouldn't call anyone a loser but I'm human & I care passionately about animal abuse. His drinking was incidental, not the reason for the label...but do stay sober, we all need you.

No worries at all. I didn't take it personally. Obviously that topic is close to my heart and I can be a bit passionate at times.
I apologize if I put words in your mouth, it wasn't my intent.
