    Home Made rack?
Curious as to if something like this https://www.target.com/p/3-drawer-wi...3/-/A-50398893 could be used as a rack system. Seems like it could be an easy setup except for the heating end of it as the heat tape from each tub could radiate to the one below or am I wrong with that? Any help be awesome!

It won't work many have tried many have failed, racks need a shelf along with each tub where heat can be secured, preferably recessed to avoid friction.

Additionally if you open the top tub if the snake below decide to stick his head up you will crush his had when closing the tub back.

Thank you! I didn't even think of that when opening due to it not having a true bottom. My original thought was just shelving with the 41 qt tubs but was sure if the self locking lids are strong enough to keep the BP from escaping.

You can easily make a rack tho with a little bit of carpentry if that's something you'd be interested in doing.

Yes, the kids have asked to build a rack as the tanks take up much of their play area :D. So I was trying to think of an easy and cheap way since we only own about 4 bp's at the moment, along with 2 leo's, a crested, and a northern brown.

i found two racks that hold 12 piece 12 quart tubs locally for 100$. and you're right on taking up too much space. i had one 20 long and noticed she didn't eat as well as my others in the rack. actually just moved her to the rack sunday night.

Just keep in mind would expend and contract so it's not for long term, if you want something that will last and is fire retardant you need to go the PVC route.

I was think a wire rack from say home depot since they can be adjusted to the height of the tubs and running heat tape along the shelves. Seen it done on YouTube and seems rather easy but not real pretty.

One question with the 41 qt tubs. Does everyone feel the lids are aecure wnough to keep the BP from escaping?

No they are not. The center section can easily be pushed up and if you are lucky they will get out, if not their head will get stuck and not able to get back in.

The wire racks can be made to work but not easily and should you have a section of heat tape rub through it will let you know the next time someone touches the rack.

The plastic shelving from HomeDepot can also be made to work but is also a pain.

Cheapest route is mdf BUT its also the heaviest option and does not do well with moisture coming into contact with it. All my original racks are mdf with lids on the tubs and wheels on the bottom of the racks. Only pain is you have to completely remove the tub to take the lid off. Though I have NEVER had an escape.
