Something weird that started out...not weird

I found this at a local show today. He was labeled as a coral glow pastel het genetic stripe and I saw a baby pic that looked like a typical pastel banana...but now he looks like this. They said he started losing yellow with each shed and now just has a little on his face. A lot of other people were speculating that something else was in the mix. I know this isn't normal ontogenetic development for a pastel banana, but I really don't know how to explain what else would cause this appearance either. Any thoughts?

How cool!! I always love monochrome bp's.
I saw something similar happen with a bumblebee ball python 3-4 years ago. It was born like a normal bumblebee and looked just like one until about 2 years old, and suddenly lost most of it's color over a couple sheds (if I remember correctly), and suddenly looked like an axanthic bee. I never looked into what the phenomena is caused by, or nobody else knew either, but it's neat!!

Cool looking snake. Looks like some kind of rock. First time I have liked the spots on a banana. I am betting this is the result of the "brown out" that some pastel's experience.

I have seen it before with some spider, loosing their coloration, I also have a friend that has a banana combo that did exactly this as well with every shed it has become more and more "axanthic" looking.

In either cases I have seen there was not explanation just something that happened.

This guy has a brown belly, which I don't think is explained by a banana losing yellow pigment? The brown is the same as any other banana would have in the darkly pigmented areas, but it has spread to cover the entire spine, obscuring all dorsal pattern that used to be visible.

I saw a video on you tube of that at a reptile show and the breeder is trying to prove it out to see if its genetic. Cool as hell!!
