    Salazar!
    Well, hello there!

This is Syd again with a new snake and some info you probably knew already: kingsnakes are really hard to take pictures of. I picked up Sal yesterday from a woman who wanted to find a new home for her snake that she felt like didn't get enough attention. So I got a ~13 year old California king, a 40 gal. tank, a huuuuge water dish, some nice driftwood, a half-log hide, and some plastic carpet type stuff all for $50. Wow.

Sal is super sweet and only musked on me when I was putting him in his new quarantine bin (his tank smells!!) after the car ride home. Before that moment, I tried to grab some pics while holding him, which was... difficult.

    NEW SMELLS???

    NEW SMELLS!!!!!

    WHERE GO???

    Sal, plz.

This is probably the best pic I got, since he wouldn't stop moving.

It's hard to tell in my gross, yellow living room light, but Sal is pretty brown and a really pale yellow, and not black and white, like the cool toned pictures I got originally suggested, haha! I don't know much about king morphs, but they had another king, Slytherin, who was banded like you'd typically expect from a king. The woman's son actually apologized that I wasn't getting the cool banded one. I didn't want to make him feel bad by saying I thought Sal looked cooler, so I just replied, "Aw, that's okay! He's still pretty!"

I'll update this thread in a few days when I weigh him and, if the weather clears up, with some better pictures! :D

Edit: As a testament to how bad the lighting is, that's a blue/teal sofa. It's not nearly as green as it looks here.

Thank you guys!! I'm very excited to finally have him home! Planning a pick up date has been a process that took about a month, but it finally arrived!! He's by far my oldest snake, but I think this will be a good lesson in how to care for an older snake.

Aw congrats, he's gorgeous!! A kingsnake of that coloration was what I originally wanted before getting my first ball python, and I still have a soft spot for them!

I know you said Magma would be your "last", but I'm thinking you should come full circle and complete the collection with a King....just sayin' ;)

LOL and that would be so easy to do, to be honest... I have a bunch of spare tubs and tanks and everything :P

Thanks! He is super chill. Though, I imagine he hasn't been on many car rides in his life, so he didn't enjoy that. >.>

Thanks!! She said she felt like her family didn't have the time to spend with him like she wanted, so she was looking to rehome him and the other originally, but since that one was their first, they're holding onto him, which I think is a good idea. And now I have a new buddy!

And after a few days, as promised, we discover that Sal is quite a big boy! 934g and around 5 ish feet, give or take. He likes to stay coiled in on himself tho, and not move a ton, so getting him to actually stretch out took a lot of waiting. (And the help of pretends2bnormal, haha.)https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2a87d78bde.jpg

We didn't want to spook him too much, since he was content to look around it a big noodle pile in my hands, so the easiest measuring tape was to hold him out straight-ish across my armspan. I'm about 5'2", so my armspan is about 5' and he pretty much reached finger to finger. He's a super chill dude!

He is a big boy, and looks great!! Django is around 52" and was 803 grams a few weeks ago.

Enjoy him! Kings are fantastic snakes.
