hypo jungle het kahl lipstick

Hey y’all! I just picked this beauty up and was told she is 4 weeks old. She was sold to me as a hypo jungle het kahl lipstick. I understand what those traits mean individually but I’m a little confused because I have not seen anyone put all of them together, so I’m not sure what to expect in terms of what she will look like as an adult. Can anyone explain it to me? Is that a typical morph? TYIA!

Moving on.

A few things. Het for something does not change what the animal looks like or what it will grow into. It only means that the animals carries that/those trait(s) if bred.

What you have is a Hypo Jungle, het Kahl (Albino) Lipstick.

What your baby will grow into visually, is a Hypo Jungle.

The site above has many baby pictures, but also, towards the bottom, pictures of adult hypo jungles. That is what your little girl should grow to look like, assuming she is what you were told.

Secondly, what's your experience level with snakes and reptiles in general?

BCI's are pretty hardy given their environmental/husbandry needs are met. What enclosure are you using? What temps? What humidity? How are you controlling temps and humidity, etc.?

If their needs are not met, they can be problematic.

Finally, 4 weeks seems pretty young to me to be selling a baby boa. I would hardly call that established.

Shed and maybe 3 meals?

You need to tread lightly and do everything right if she's really that young.

Make sure the tank is set up perfectly and leave her alone for a while, at least until she's had a few meals for you. Only take her out to clean the tank, etc.

Do you know what she was eating, both type of rodent, size, and if alive or Frozen Thawed (F/T)? Where did you purchase her? Can you ask them questions? You want to know everything about her you can know.

I also hope you did your research and know that a female BCI gets quite large and needs a large enclosure (5X2' is probably a minimum with 6X2' plus recommended).

There are quite a few Boa peeps on here, and I am not the expert, but know a bit.

Please answer the questions above and let's get your baby off to a good start.

If you haven't researched BCI's, they need to be slow grown. Not huge meals and not too often. Once we've dealt with everything else here, we can discuss feeding regimen as she grows. I do not want to overwhelm you or be redundant if you already have researched.

Good morning! Thank you so much for your help, and for being so patient with me! I’m obviously new to forums haha.

Anyway, I have kept reptiles before, including turtles, a tortoise, a beardie, and lizards and little rat snakes I caught around my house as a kid in Florida. I’ve never kept a boa.

I researched for months before I got her. I have been wanting a boa, so I started with a corn snake that I’ve had for 6 months. She’s doing great, so I felt it was ready for me to move up. I am aware that my boa will get between 6-8 feet, and possibly up to 10 feet, and that won’t be problematic for me. I’m prepared to care for her appropriately. I am planning to feed her every 5-7 days while she's young.

For now, I have a 32qt sterilite container that I drilled holes into. I have an UTH, controlled by a thermostat. According to my infra red temp gun, the ambient temp is 78. I have a digital hygrometer/thermometer. The temp in the hot spot is 87 and humidity is 68%. I got her Sunday, July 22, at the White plains expo. She had shed and has had 2 feedings. She was eating F/T weaned mice, which is what I will continue her on for now. I am attaching a photo of her enclosure (thanks to your detailed explanation and the fact that I'm no longer trying to do this on my phone!)

Correction: she was being fed mice hoppers. I bought a mixed bag with hoppers and weaned mice.

i have 2 boas myself but not bci a dwarf caye caulker and a Dumerils.

Id stick to feeding every week. Boas digest slowly and have a slow metabolism. Slow and steady wins the boa race!!

your Paramaters sound great. I’d let her be for a few weeks as tough as it is. Get her feeding steady and enjoy seeing her grow and keep posting pics !!!

Thanks for your advice. I see conflicting information about feeding, etc., so I'm always receptive to information from more experienced keepers! I fed her 2 nights ago and she took it immediately, no problem. I won't feed her again until Tuesday night and will maintain her on feedings once a week. It's so hard to leave them alone once they're home, but I will resist :)

I had wanted a dum; they're so beautiful! I have never heard of caye caulkers, but they are beautiful, too!

Ok, cool on the setup.

The temps and humidity look good, although I wouldn't let it get below 78F ambient, and you should raise humidity in shed.

I keep mine with an 88F hot spot, 81F ambient, and 78-80F cool spot. However, I have a huge tank and it's got big gradients and a hot and a cool side, so it's easier. If you are dialed in and everything is working well, don't mess with it.

Regarding feeding, I would feed what she was eating and on the small side for the first two to three meals. Get her established and eating regularly. I would also feed every 7 days to make sure she's digesting well and settling in.

So, weaned mice are fine, but every 7 days to start. Also, as stated earlier, leave her alone unless it's necessary to take her out for cleaning, etc.

Get two to three good meals into her before handling. She's really young and I am surprised the breeder sold her after eating only two meals. Get her eating regularly; that's the number one priority.

Glad she ate already! Keep up the good work!

Very nice new addition,the Hypo jungles are really nice and will get better with age as the Hypo gene kicks in and cleans up her pattern

The cay caulkers are a really nice dwarf pure locality bci boa located on cay caulker which is located on cay just off the coast of Belize and as you say dumeril boas are stunning but can a pain to start feeding as many

Thank you! When you quarantine, do you have to do it in separate rooms? I have their tanks near each other right now but I am really careful and wash my hands very well before handling or touching anything for either one of them. Is that sufficient enough?

I’m very relieved she ate. I weighed her right before I fed her. She weighed 72 grams and I fed her a hopper that was 7 grams. She struck and hit so hard compared to my little corn. And she coiled for such a long time. It really was so awesome to watch her. Im already so in love with her. 😍

If if it’s not possible. As far away from each other as possible.

Handle her (BCI) last and do not handle corn snake for the rest of the day if you touch anything in BCIs tank or her.

Keep BCI tank spotless.

No similar tools (tongs), bowls, hides, etc.

Everything must be separate for a minimum of two, preferably three months.

Frankly, your breeder is already suspect letting her go that young.

The above is a minimum quarantine procedure. Some people change clothes, different rooms, etc. I am not against that but please follow the minimum at least.

Okay, I will definitely put them into separate rooms and be more careful about all other aspects of keeping them.

I put aspen in my BCI’s enclosure. When I go to clean, should I switch it out with paper?

I, personally, would use paper. I use for all my animals for cleanliness, but definitely in quarantine.

Other ways to keep humidity up if needed.

Next clean, switch over, but I’d leave her alone to digest for a bit now.

More important than seperate rooms, IMO, is separate everything and do not handle or touch the BCI or enclosure and then go back to corn snake.

Fresh day, lots of hand washing and general cleanliness on your part and different clothes etc. before doing anything with your corn.

Seperate rooms can only help.
