2018 Male Rio Bravo Pokigron Suriname Red Tailed Boa Constrictor Progression
I present my new and probably last addition for the foreseeable future... my first new world constrictor, a True Red-Tailed Pokigron Suriname Boa Constrictor descended from Gus Rentfro’s bloodlines.
Born March 28th, 2018. 72grams and 21” on arrival today and had started shedding just before I unbagged him. So all of these pics are with the freshest coat of paint possible. He’s been cruising his tub nonstop all day. May offer food this evening as I was told he is due to eat. Certainly a very active and curious little thing. Emphasis on little, he’s so tiny. Love the laterally compressed body, so different from python physique!

He looks awesome, unfortunately BCC are rare here in the UK. I read a while back that they grow a lot slower than BCI and that they're more sensitive with feeding regime but grow to a larger adult size. Looking forward to see this guy grow. Great pick up [emoji1474]

    WOW!!

Just awesome and that laterally compressed body is my favorite shape.

I can see the pinks and the eyelashes.

    That is one sensational BCC.

You and Sauzo have a couple of winners!

My fella is also a Rio Bravo boa.

I am pumped you have that snake and must warn you boas are addictive. I can't believe I only have one.

The compressed body is so cool! He’s like twice as tall as he is wide.
Yeah I can see a little pink on the sides and his eyelashes are more pronounced than in the pics I was sent. The peaks on the first half of his saddles are very defined too.
I’m quite smitten and proud to have a boa from Rio Bravo lines as well.
Got a fuzzy mouse thawing for him now. He’s already pooped and hasn’t stopped moving since he got here

Grats man. Boas are pretty awesome. Gina is in shed too. Boas are much more relaxing when compared to retics. Even big ole Rosey is happy to be thrown over a shoulder and dragged outside.

And he is tiny. He is smaller than Gina when i got her. She was about 24 inches.

Wait until you catch him darkening and lightening up in color. It's pretty cool.

Haha, yeah probably more into checking out the new place. Gina was kind of a cautious eater when i got her. Now she goes gung ho when a weaned rat is brought close to her.

    Awesome!

A buddy of mine who has 2 Rio Bravo Pokis recommends you keep feeding them mice the first year and DO NOT over feed.

I'm going to PM you some stuff if I can find it.

Yeah, stick to mice. I switched Gina over to weaned rats recently as she will be 2 years old this Aug 22. She is still pretty small, probably just cracking the 3 foot mark at like i said, almost 2 years old.

    He's beautiful!

Love Boa's; inquisitive, but calm and docile. Personality is awesome with boas and they get big, but no unmanageably big. Especially since they are usually so calm.

Behira, my female BCI, has become my favorite snake to handle. However, she's my least favorite to feed (killer food response), so it balances out :). Seriously, she's amazing and so is Leonard! He will grow up to be a very handsome man!

I know just what you mean. I’m excited to see him grow over the years but by the time he’s bigger I know I’ll miss seeing him as a tiny little red tailed worm. At least this guy will stay smaller for longer than Phyllis and Gerald. If I turn my back for too long it seems like either of them grow a foot before I realize what happened!

Yeah boas grow slow as paint dries. Gina has put maybe 6 inches since i got her 16 months ago. And he will for sure stay smaller than your retics for a MUCH longer time. I would be surprised if he broke 8 feet. Plus the other bonus is boas tend to not push or pace unless it gets hot out. Thats about the only time i see my boas getting antsy at the doors. I just slide one open and they usually will sit on the litter dam to cool off. Also boas dont eat nearly as much as retics or as often. Heck Rosey and Vicky eat a large rat once a month. Vicky sometimes gets a medium rat instead as I'm trying to slim her down a little since she got a little chub on her from eating all of Dotties refused rats lol.

Yeah, Gina was born August 22 2016. Chris Wolf sent me a pic of the litter after they were born, all in a giant pile of goo lol. She's maybe pushing 3.5 feet if that.

And she ate on a little more 'meaty' schedule of every 7-10 days on mice and once she moved to weaned rats, every 2-3 weeks. Some people feed them every 2 weeks on mice but i feel for a baby snake under 1 year old, they should get a little more food as that is their biggest growth and development period.

Right on. That’s so wild to me that a “big” snake will be so small for that long.
I’m doing 7 days right now but might give him a 7-10day schedule once he’s on hoppers.

I did 7 days until Gina moved up to adult mice. Then she went to every 10 days. Then when she moved up to weaned rats, like i said, i moved her to every 2-3 weeks. I personally would stick to once a week when on hoppers but that is just me. That is what i have done for all my boas.

The Poki Suri animals are know to stay smaller.

You will probably not see 7 feet for that boy.
