I have 3 cages with LED Moon Lights, which is a separate light, and then some LED strip lights.

My newest cage is LED "Tape" lighting.

Its my new go to choice.

Waterproof, easy to staple or glue, inexpensive and it produces a variety of colors.

This photo is during the construction phase. The cage is 6 feet long by 30" deep and 2 feet tall.

I mounted the lights a little bit out in front of the rock background. I used builders staples to mount the tape. The cage is fairly non-stick so I had to staple. Care must be taken to avoid puncturing the tape. I hit one spot and my white light has a few purple lights because of it.

I typically use the blue and white light settings.

    However, the green is nice.
    https://i.imgur.com/zagwJOG.jpg

    The red is also nice.

There are variations but I like the basic colors.

This is the cage in final form.

Minus the little upset in uniformity of pure white, due to the puncture, my daytime lighting looks like this.

My 3 other cages have 2 different lights. More mounting, more money and not my preference any longer.

However, the cages look wonderful. I have the strip and the blue on here.

I hope this helps a bit.

Setting up is fun, and I borrowed the "Tape Strip" idea from another forum member.

A perfect reason to have a forum and ask these questions!

We ALL learn from each other.

I’ve used the same lights described for over two years now. I get mine on eBay or amazon. Just search for waterproof color changing/RGB LED strip. Generally comes in a 16’ strip with a power source and remote. They come in different widths which won’t matter too much unless you need them for the LED grooves that Animal Plastics will cut for their cages. Those require a 3528 size strip which is 8mm wide. 5050 strip is 10mm wide. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4e56740c59.jpg

Amazon is a great place to start.

I went to a battery store and paid $24.99

The plug that goes in the wall lol. There’s a transformer that connects to the lights and has a sensor for the remote, that plugs to an AC adapter, that plugs into your electrical outlet. It’s super simple really, just sounds more complicated in writing. Not the best pic because it’s behind the cage stack and I didn’t want to move the shelf it’s on.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f0a68417b5.jpg

    That sums it up.

Check the Amazon link and do a little side research. I'm sure you will understand how it works. There is nothing overly involved. Plug, Plug and you are all set. The hardest part is deciding where you want to place the strip mounting the lights.

Like I stated in my first post. The best system IMO is the LED tape/strip.

I used 2 sources prior to this.

Because of the opinions of other users of the system I think you are best off with something simple like this.

    All types of materials.

I got mine from Ed Lilley at Constrictors NW. He also made my Proline cage. It was a package deal.

    No PVC.
It’s a wood dowel in front wrapper in fake vines. A real tree that had fallen and a big wood fence post wrapped in twine.
I used V brackets to mount them.

You can see them in the pictures of the light tape.

Home Depot is where I bought them.

I believe JM has similar mounts and also uses fence posts.

i think lighting depends on enclosures.

for a terrarium/vivarium, ReptiSun LED UVB by ZooMed, look and function the best. they're sleek, modular, provide white, red and blue lights and UVB. i'm getting the LED only model for a setup i'm putting together. they look better than dome lights and hoods.

i'm sure ReptiSuns can be adapted for PVC enclosures as well - but yeah, i agree that LED strips are the easiest and most economical to setup. also most come w/ a remote control, they're RGB color adjustable and they're dimmable. (plus u can make the lights strobe or flash which looks cool but would annoy/stress any animal i'm sure.)

What would you recommend for a ExoTera....I really don’t like the fact that my pathos die cause they get no lighting in the enclosures lol

i would use a Dremel to remove those crossbars on the Exo-Terra screen tops and use ReptiSuns... but if u don't wanna do that, put Jungle Dawn or Pangea LED's in your Exo-Terra hood. and if u wanna add a lil color, use an RGB light bar. those are meant for aquarium and water proof but u can re-purpose them. they're basically RBG LED strips put in a waterproof bar.

I guess after I read Ax01's comment which makes perfect sense I'll ask.

What are you housing, what type of cage do you have and do you need UV light or light for heat?

If you are using a plastic cage and housing a snake, I recommend what I have in the previous posts but if you have other requirements, by all means look at other options.

I am looking to the future and planning to get an animal plastics t8 once my girl is a little bigger. These LEDs look like a great option, but if they are 16 ft long, what do you do with the extra?

Just cut it off. They’re marked along the strip where to cut. Simple pair of scissors does the trick

The remote does not work and lights don’t come on but if I touch the black wires together they will come on but go right back off

What’s with all the spliced wires? There should just be a 4 pronged pin that connects the transformer to the light strip. There should be an arrow on the light strip connection and the transformer connector. The pin connects those two parts and the two arrows should point at each other

Nah, that’s all the colors I use and nobody seems bothered by them. Mostly either white during the day or for cleaning and red for viewing at night. Off the rest of the time
