Craigslit find. Not for me but was interesting.
Found this on Craigslist.
https://houston.craigslist.org/pet/d...624482209.html
I don't do hots but was interesting to see.
No I am not advertising for them. Just was interesting.

Very interesting.
I wonder how one gets a permit in NY state.

Hats off to keepers of hots. For me the risk is not worth the gain so I wouldn't enjoy keeping it fearing death daily lol.

Check out viperkeeper on YouTube. He used pieces of wood to keep the cages shut lol. Brave man.

Not easily, or so I've read. But going thru whatever legal channels is the "only" way, IMO...so do your homework. It's SO NOT worth getting busted for.

Personally, cobras aren't for me, too squirrelly!* I actually had one for a while (long story) years ago, along with some other venomous "illegal aliens" that were
dumped on me. Fish & Game folks are really nice when you call them & ask what to do- but if they're knocking on your door because of a tip, hmm, not so much.
(*but I safely enjoyed keeping various rattlesnakes for 20 years)
If you're serious about working with a cobra, you should have experience with calmer hots first, IMO...and practice by keeping something harmless like a racer as if
it was venomous for a while. Nothing wrong with being fascinated by these creatures, but living with them is another matter...and the key word IS "living".

I saw a cinnamon rattlesnake on Craigslist once. It was tempting, but I'm not sure I want to get into hots. Definitely not until the kids are out of the house.

Thanks for the tips.
I would love to have a Naja Naja and a Bitis Gabonica.

To be honest, I much prefer snakes that I can interact with. Not only that, but health care & routine maintenance are much harder with hots. I got into rattlesnakes
"accidentally"...it wasn't something I had been wanting at all but a snake that needed a new home. I don't like rattlesnakes because they are venomous (as I suspect
that many do) but in spite of it. All snakes are beautiful & worth respect, & I wish there wasn't such a mystique created by the fact that some are dangerous & illegal
that makes them seem so desirable...like "forbidden fruit".
I don't really know you & it's not for me to say what you should or shouldn't do, I only hope you do lots of research first and realize the many ways that keeping such
hots can impact other aspects of your life, & not always in ways that you want. (things like places to live & friends)

Same way I feel about messing with electricity ... at least this way you know what bit you and may cause your demise.

Even experienced keepers make mistakes. I saw a show on TV once years ago. The guy works with cobras for years milking them for venom for research. He was putting one away after milking it. As he was placing the lid on the tub the cobra lived in it struck him in the stomach. He went through the video describing everything he was feeling and went through. He had a friend film the parts when he was passed out from pain. It took over 8 tubes of anti-venom and almost a month in the hospital to keep him from dyeing. After that, he had several surgeries to help with the skin issues and the softball size hole in his stomach. He has a epic scar when all is said and done. That was with someone prepared and anti-venom on hand.
Not for me. Mad respect for anyone who does keep them.

I was super impressed by this part:

Good luck with the NYSDEC - hopefully you don't talk to the same moron that told me we couldn't own D/SD retics because they are poisonous and get too big.

I almost laughed then realized how sad it was.

LOL. Id love to keep hots one day, if i ever somehow managed to get permission from my other half. Lord knows it wont be in Jersey, though. Its absolutely impossible to get any type of permit here, let alone one for venomous reptiles.
Interesting to see a cobra on craigslist, though. Now i know where to look later.

Just because you CAN find on Craigslist doesn't make it the BEST place to buy...many things on CL have been neglected or even stolen, so keep your eyes open.

I also prefer buying adults so that someone can vouch for their temper. Most reputable breeders will do so.

I was dumbfounded - could not believe what he was telling me - I respectfully corrected him, informed him they are not poisonous or venomous and do not get any larger than a red tail boa and asked for his superior in hopes that person could clarify and was promptly hung up on. When I called back and said our connection was lost and I was disconnected, he told me "No, I hung up on you" and did so again.
Sooooo - I'm just taking my chances.
