I've Been SCAMMED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello all... I've been a long time reader/lurker on these forums, and have apprciated all the info. I wanted to let you all know that RAY TORRES of www.raysreptlia.com has scammed me for $175. I picked out 2 specific snakes from the pictures on his website (to use as future breeders). The snakes were #606 and #611 (funny they are still "available" on his site). Ray shipped me 2 completely differnt snakes (much lower quality). When I received the snakes I notified Ray immeadiately... his response? Well, it's this:


those snakes are fine feeding well and healthy .they are guaranteed females why not just keep them

You forgot to read the small print. It appears Ray did represent himself properly, I pulled this directly from his page when I viewed a snake. I would not claim that you were "scammed", how ever in the future I would request photos of the snakes before they were shipped so that I could approve of them first.

This is the exact font size and color that the disclaimer looks like on his website. I clicked on the pic of the snakes you mentioned above.

you know i saw that too, but that is only stated about the pic that is on the page where you go to pay. the pic of the bp on that page is the same pic no matter which bp you selected to buy.

Weird.. it's not always the same on the 'buy' page. Click on a few, and you'll see it changes, but it doesn't always match the snake you clicked on.

ah, you are right. evidentally i just happened to click on a few where it was the same. however, this is stated on one of the buy pages as well:

"To purchase your baby ball python for 70 dollars shipped click on the add to cart link below.The picture on this page is for illustration purposes only.The snake you are purchasing is the snake on the previous page."

that clearly states that the snake you are purchasing IS indeed the one that was in the original photo.

wont even let me open the page wonder if he killed it after a odd amount of hits he doesnt normaly see.

His stated reply doesn't impress me. I know if I made a mistake and gave someone the wrong snakes I'd be very apologetic, but this guy doesn't seem fazed at all.

no, that reply is inexcusable at best. like why would you care what snakes you actually got as long as they are females? um, well, if you pick out specific snakes from photographs than you expect to get those snakes. especially if you chose them for specific qualities like pattern, blushing, etc.

i too would think that with different pics and numbers under each on his available page that would be the pic of the snake to match that number. if i ordered certain #'s, i'd expect them to match the pic!!!

cool just tried the other, regardless of what he got or states the website setup shows that if you pic this link you get this pic. he cheated you. now im not sure what legal action you have as he is pretty wordy and probley knows what the legal wording is and didnt break any real laws but I would make sure his bad rep is all over fauna.

So I did pick out these specific snakes, and Ray was very aware of it. I want to do ALL I CAN do make sure it is VERY difficult for him to do bussiness like this in the future... What are my options??? He shipped them via DHL, unlabled... Can I contact DHL and inform them of his practices???

He no longer responds to my many emails or phone calls...

It is an unfortunate fact that the herp business is full of scammers and low lifes. Luckily there are more good guys (at least in my experience) than bad guys. It pays to check the BOI and be sure that the guy/girl you are dealing with hasnt screwed others. These people will always be around but if the kind of networking that we all have going on here and on other forums continues, it will make it harder and harder on them and hopefully drive them out of business. Sorry you got taken on this and hopefully Ray will come to his senses and do the right thing.

What's funny (not really) is that he has even relisted the same snake that I specifically asked for. It is #606, which is the far left picture in the ad. below from KS. What a Dirtbag.

With a little research, the fly by nighters are pretty easy to sniff out ... sometimes the security of buying from a "name" is worth the couple extra dollars! ;)

jared, if you haven't already you might want to consider writing up a report on your experience on the BOI on fauna.

Do you have to be subscribed there to post on the BOI?

Yes. You have to pay the fee. $10.00 is the minimum and well worth it IMO. When I do business with people, I like to let others know how my experience went.....just like you do with your friends w/ service and food at resturants....

Ok just checking. I'm sure I'll subscribe at some point.

This worries me, just purchased a female red blood from Ray, to be deliverd this wendsday, i didnt notice the disclaimer until i made my purchase, that is my fault, just wondering has anyone else purchased from Ray, and what will you do with the two you did recieve, will let you know the quality of my new blood whe i recieve it
