New blood python just arrived but..is it python Curtis brongersmai
Very exited for this snake. Arrived about 20 minutes ago. Everything looks good but just notice this snake isn’t as red as some other pics I see online of small blood pythons. I’m always proud of my animals but just want other members opinions. I have her in a 20L with repti bark until I can go change pad and set up tub. She is beautiful though let me know what you guys think. My first blood/ short everhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e7de6aae7.heichttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3bf8ee628.heichttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f4a684a6c.heic

I won't be able to help with ID, but great pick up!
I'm definitely happy I added my Borneo boy.

Looking good, from what I seen short tail change colors but unlike bps for the better colors getting richer and bolder ever shed, that is one smoking hot snake and will only get better with age please keep us posted;)

Looks great! How is Curtis' attitude? Nippy or calm? Bloods is on my list. They are so pretty.

They have a reputation for being a bit nippy, as well as unpredictable. However, that rep is gradually being put to bed as captive bred animals are readily available.
I've handled a handful, and only one juvenile struck.
My personal experience with Juice after 6 months in my care: quiet, wimpy, closed-mouth hissing occasionally when I first touch him. I let him know I'm not a threat and he's fine. He has never struck, never even gave me a real hiss. Never once have I had a problem getting him out of his enclosure and when hes out he's the epitome of a chill "lap snake".
I do know there are still some, just like any species, that are a bit more challenging, but that's to be expected.

Out the box yesterday she was calm for the most part. There was a couple times she froze and had her tongue out half way and I just handled her accordingly. No hissing and striking whatsoever

There is a huge amount of variation in color, from yellow to brown to red. Most are sort of a brownish maroon. You can look at the parents for an idea of how the babies will turn out, they do change with age somewhat.

I want one of each like this guy ^^ :)

That has to be one of the more incredible looking patterned bloods I’ve ever seen, congratulations!

I had her out today briefly for about 10 minutes. Great demeanor but I make sure I handle her differently from my boas and balls. I did notice in hand she appeared kinda thin even for a hatchling so I decided to try and get something in her. I don’t when they last feed her. She turned her nose up at frozen, then I tried live and boom. Just hope she doesn’t count of this all the time as I really don’t like feeding live mice and rats. All my other snakes eat frozen not problem. When I got I was told she eats frozen but it’s a little soon we will see how it goeshttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...95af430f9.heichttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3d05851b4.heichttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...942e0843e.heic

My Borneo is refusing anything but live so far too. He took a few months off, now shows no interest at all when I offer frozen. I'm hoping a few more live feedings are all I need to get him back on F/T

Yes I can definitely see the attraction to them. Only thing I’ve noticed it’s kinda creepy how they focus on you and you actually see there pupils moving to focus on you. Never had any other snake be that focused lol

How’s the temperament of the Borneo? I was actually torn between a Borneo or red before ordering. Just went with the red because of the coloration they get once older.

He's super chill. Barely let's out a tiny hiss now and then when I first touch him. But he knows pretty quick I'm not a threat and he calms right down. He's perfect for when you want to just relax and watch tv or something.
I'm actually thinking about going with another STP next, but ssshhh, I'm going to disappoint some carpet and boa friends if I do. I only have one of each species so far, because I love the variety, but there's something about Juice that makes me want another STP.

So true about the eyes. The pupils follow you while everything else is still. It's almost like the paintings with the eyes cut out on Scooby Doo or sowmthing!!!

Brought her out to see what her color truly is but notice she’s getting the pink belly already so I’m think a shed may be coming. She is very pleasant so far I don’t know why I haven’t kept one of these sooner.Think it’s more so the bad rap these snakes have but so far she is proving that reputation wrong https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9ffaf6d0d.heichttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...795c5edd2.heichttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...41999a9b2.heic

Once she sheds you might try leaving her a f/t feeder overnight. My girl won’t take food from the tongs, but I drop her rodent at the opening to her hide and it reliably disappears, sometimes in only a few minutes.

Sounds good. I’ll try this one she sheds. Really want her to gain some weight. Pics do no justice to me she is on the small side a little

Usually snakes need a few days of settling in with no handling before even offering their first meal, and they'll have their best chances of eating f/t... Since you say she was eating f/t with her last owner. It's not surprising she rejected the f/t only 24 hours after arriving to you haha. If you wait a full week with no handling and offer f/t again, she might take it. But may not, since you already gave her live. I also am told that hatchlings can be shy, so providing more tight secure hides may help too!
Bloods/short tails also should have a noticeable ridge in their back, more than balls and boas. Though they shouldn't be a flat tent, of course. If you can't feel an obvious ridge on the back and they are rounded, they are actually overweight.
Congrats on your girl!

Thanks. Yeah I know I kinda broke the week rule. Snake arrived to me thin and I just wanted to get a meal in her. Last feeding with breeder was 6/10. I emailed him yesterday on this actually. Was very surprised to hear this. She looked kinda flat to me honestly.

From what I've heard Sumatrans (Curtus) are the most docile, then Borneos, then Bloods - although none of them are that aggressive unless you keep them too hot.
Bloods color up as they grow, but good genes makes a difference too. The best way to get a redder animal is to check pics of the parents or ensure that it comes from a known high-red bloodline.
I have a carpet now (Diamond/Jungle) and am planning to pick up an orange-head Sumatran soon.
