Who's comin with me? :)
OK team, I have a bit of a dilemma. I kinda want to buy this beautiful Southern Scrub python. The only issue is the breeder has a 2.2 and will only sell them in pairs. I really want the female and was wondering if someone wanted to split the cost and take the male. It's $500 for the pair which isn't bad at all but I just don't have room for them both. So, who's comin with me :) ? PM me if interested.

Are you speaking of the crazy gorgeous pair on fauna?!? Cause um....🙌

As much as I'd love to ride that train with you it's just not the right animal or the right time for me. Hopefully somebody who's active on the forum can make it happen for you, it'll be cool to watch the progressions.
Good luck, Zig!

I definitely cannot but I hope this works out for you!! :)

Dang, I'm sorry you can't take the leap with me Craig. You and I would be perfect Scrub brothers. :D

I didn't see the pair on Fauna. I saw a lone female but I think they wanted $500. I could buy a pair for that price. :)

Re: Who's comin with me? :)
I too would love to go in on this, but I don't have the cage available at the moment... and it would probably take some time to get together what I wanted. :(

I know what you mean. I'm planning on putting my new critter in a tub until I order more AP enclosures.
-
Get both,
Keep them and observe the one you think will fit in best. While small you could house both with relative ease.
After a year sell one for more than you paid, or keep them!
I'd love to help but I can't I'm done at 4!

Re: Who's comin with me? :)
@ Gio- I seriously considered buying the pair but I've got my eyes on another critter that I want maybe even more than the scrub :).
-
hmmm by the thread title, i totally thought this was gonna be about something else.
Edit:

Hey Zig,
The website says "Lone Male or Pairs Only"
Did you possibly miss the "Lone Male" part? Or maybe he just added that recently?
Grab a lone male bud and you are set. I do believe the males get bigger in this species similar to coastal carpets in the wild.

Good call Gio. I'll hit Dan up again today. I didn't even look at the website. We're friends on FB so I sent him a message a few days ago. He's says he's down to 2.2 and doesn't want to break them up. I was initially interested in a female and offered $350 for a girl but that didn't move the needle. I'll ask him if he'll let a lone male go. I don't have any breeding plans so a male wouldn't be a bad thing but my compulsion for balance was pushing me towards a female. I currently have 5 male and 3 female snakes. If I add the male scrub and get a female mystery snake that'll give me a 6.4 ratio. I can live with that. A 7.3 would drive me bonkers. :rolleye2:

No,$500 is silly for Merauke type. It was posted by Jeff Godbold on the 10th. I believe in Scrub Python Trader on Facebook as well. Most beautiful Southerns I’ve ever seen!![emoji7][emoji7]
Dan has an amazing rep, as well. I have heard only good things from people who’ve gotten babies from that most recent group. I believe he sells lone males, though?

Honestly, that would be awesome!!! You and I seem to be on the same page with our taste in snakes, how we care for them, etc... I wish I could make it happen.

He seems like a really stand up guy from watching his youtube vlogs - with some great stock - Best of luck to you, they are beautiful snakes.

Any links? I want to see what they look like. Thanks

I'm not sure which 4 Southerns are left. I'm waiting for some new pics. He's also got a single male barneck that he's going to show me.

Why'd I even look at that link??? I'd love me a mangrove someday, so that just added fuel to that fire...and those cribos...

Re: Who's comin with me? :)
This is a breeder pic of the male barneck that's available. I like him but not sure if I love him.

I was actually hoping for a little darker and more pronounced banding Slytherin. Not sure on locality I only know he's a barneck. I was originally looking for a Moluccan but I hear they're basically impossible to find here in the States. Then I saw rhe Southerns and liked those. Now I really like the barnecks too but I'm still on the fence about this guy. He's WC but has been in captivity since January. I was really hoping to find a CB animal.

Re: Who's comin with me? :)
I'm guessing,
But I assume there are unrelated pairs he selling rather than clutchmates ( based on his rep I assume yes).
Just wanted to stick my oar in and ask.

Re: Who's comin with me? :)
@ Dr. Del- I'm thinking they're clutchmates but I'm not sure. I really can't use the pair and just need a lone animal. I actually kinda like the barneck a little bit better than the Southerns. I just wanted one with darker banding.

Re: Who's comin with me? :)
WHEW!!! They were YTC - I'm interested in the BTC LMAO - still stunning snakes.

Go to 4:40 for Scrub Python. Or watch the whole video... I really enjoyed the Olive Python :gj:

There you go Ziggy, someone has to fall in love with a Scrub.

So glad to see you in the group! Was going to suggest it after I saw this post. There are some really phenomenal, expertly knowledgeable people there.
One thing I am learning is that the scrub community is a small one and people who are enthusiasts are just all in. They will be able to give you some awesome advice. I am also fairly certain one of the members has a gravid female Moluccan.
There are several other people breeding this season, so if you’re after a captive bred animal, you’ve come to the right place. I am peeing my pants waiting to see what David’s projects produce!

Re: Who's comin with me? :)
@ Slytherin- Great to see some familiar folks in the group. I was already in touch with David and Brandon trying to find something and I guess there's some really cool stuff on the works. I'm not in a rush but I am eager to get my hands on one of those beasts. I'm sure the perfect critter will appear at the perfect time. :)

I'm still hoping for a mellow fellow though :). My snake keeping has been a progressive journey of slowly working with larger and more challenging species. I started with BPs, then kings, bulls, carpets and an Olive. I'm going to add a boa. I've heard they're pretty chill and I like their size too. Then once I reach the top of Scrub Mountain I think I'll be content and call it a day. I won't need to push the envelope any further. And the only place to go from there would be the Land of the Hots and that's just a bridge too far for me. :)
