FL man busted with retics for sale.

I thought I'd share this article. Make sure you know your states laws, people!

Glad GA is pretty lax on this. Basically no venomous or native species without a permit. Otherwise anything goes.

Oops! Who knows if he really knew (they're illegal without permits) or not? Nice looking snakes, silly way to lose them.

at least he was fully cooperative with law enforcement and only seems to have gotten a nice slap on the wrist and wallet (he was charged with 6 misdemeanor citations) to make sure he learns his lesson.

i hope the snakes will be well cared for.

In FL a permit is not only needed to keep retics as they are defined as conditional species, it's also needed to sell.

Unfortunately FWS will likely euthanize the snakes, which is what it typically does when it takes in animals from people who don't have the proper permits for them.

That's what I was thinking (or wondering). How totally sad...

In Florida, you need a permit to sell any reptile. Retics are just regulated along with burmese pythons, (some) scrub pythons, rock pythons, green anaconda, etc - these are all conditional species requiring a permit to keep.

I read that these snakes went to a licensed facility. They are not listed as invasive here so they may have been given a chance. More than likely a licensed reptile store or sanctuary took them in. Kamp Kenan is in the Palm Beach area who has been known to take in rescues from FDW.
