Help my red tail boa got too hot and is not moving
My snake is limp but not stiff is there anything I can do? She got too hot which I think is the cause of her condition.

What happened? How did she get too hot? HOW HOT did she get????

Is she still breathing? Cool her off in cool water maybe (but not too deep, keep her head up too)

And is there a 24 hour emergency vet clinic anywhere near you? If she is still alive, I suggest you take her in asap.

Is she coming around at all?

Do not put her in cool water, she needs to cool off slowly or you will shock her system. I would leave her on the cool side of her enclosure and monitor her.

    How hot did she get?

I was gone all day and the airconditioner failed in the house. All my enclosures were 98 to 99. I think all the rest of them survived. I got the air working now. Lucy our RTB is not moving at all. I don't think she is breathing. I think we lost her. I am so pissed but fearful the rest r OK. My girlfriend is crying holding her in a tub.

I am thankful we didn't loose everyone. All the enclosures are cooled down to 80 ambient now. The 5 others are OK.

That’s crazy! Your house got to 98 degrees from the AC being out for like 12 hours?! Ugh, are you sure she’s not just in shock? I hate that you came home to this :(

I wonder if it is possible to preform CPR on a snake? I'm so sorry for your loss, my garter died a bit ago from what I suspect was overheating. :( I'm glad the others are okay, though.

If her breathing is real shallow, it would be very hard to see or be sure. Hey I've never heard of anyone doing CPR on a snake but you might have
nothing to lose? I've raised mice for many years & sometimes a new mom doesn't clean up the babies...I find them blue & dead, no movement,
but I clean off the membranes & have used my finger to pump their tiny chest area...believe it or not, many do start to breathe & turn pink & survive.

That is just so sad to lose any pet this way...I hope the others are all ok, but I also hope that Lucy just somehow wakes up...

Was this a whole house central air? Window unit? Ductless mini split?

It just failed completely or was there a power surge or failure ?

Window unit. Tried the breaker. Now I have 2 on separate breakers. Not sure how to prevent it in the future.

So sorry, another example that TOO HOT, is more dangerous than TOO COOL.
I hope this never happens again, maybe setup a backup system of some sort?

98f can kill a boa in a few hours?... huh... me thinks there may have been an underlying condition or something, but regardless, sorry for your loss.

Re: Help my red tail boa got too hot and is not moving
Truth is, I have no clue how hot they actually got. Was late evening when I got home and was still 98F. I had one window unit running when I left. Was off with the breaker tripped and the plug had to be replaced because it melted. This was a heck of a blow to both confidence in my ability to keep the house cool enough. I replaced the plug and added a window unit to the snake room. The heat sources did not fail. They were all regulated. The temps just got to hot from the heat of the day.

She was loved and will be missed. She was a rescue and we had not idea on her age. We guessed that with her being a little over 5' that she was around 5-6 years old. She could have been much older than that though. We have no clue. I had the thought that they might have issues this summer of getting to hot but put it back in my mind because of the air-conditioner being on. Lucy, like all my pets has left us with an empty enclosure and hole in our hearts.

I am so grateful all the other snakes and lizards are ok. I have checked on them all several times after finding Lucy. All the temps are returned to normal and will be left alone a couple of days to get over the stress.

Should I feed them this week? Thursday is feeding day.

That's such bad luck skyrivers, at least the rest are ok
I would just try to feed as normal if they are due this week now all the temps have settled back down
