How long did it take you?
Okay this is so totally a strange question but... (okay that was the CA girl in me talking)

For those of you feeding f/t how long did it take you to get over the heebee geebees of opening your freezer and seeing a HUGE package of rats?

It's been a week and my stomach still does a flip flop everytime I open the freezer. Does it get any easier? Should I them it in a big eggo box or something?

Suggestions, comments, and teasing should now commence. LOL

It never bothered me. My mom occasionally has to tell me to get the rat bags off of the frozen pizza.

ha ha, it never bothered me to tell you the truth. in fact, i like it. i love opening the freezer to see that 1/3 of it or more is filled with bags of various sized rats. it reminds me of my snakies and how much i love them. aaaaw, oooooh, mushy gooey luv stuff! :P

you'll get used to it. you could always just hide them in the back or something for now. :)

LOL too funny Dawn! Actually when the new freezer arrives and we get our first frozen rat order in I'm packing each size in their own non-see through plastic bins. I sure as heck do not want to look in the freezer and see the ratsicles in there.

One note though, frozen prey in the freezer cuts down significantly on the loss of everything edible in the freezer after an all night Xbox playing, food snarfing, they must have a hollow leg to eat THAT much teenage boys!

it keeps your grocery bill down in the frozen foods department too. for the first month or so after i get an order of rats whenever my husband and i go to the store he will pick up a frozen pizza or something and i'm just like--no honey, that won't fit. :P

I just got a nice used small freezer (coming this week) but it's still either 5 or 7 cubic feet. I'm not buying that much frozen stuff LOL and I'm too cheap to spend electricity cooling empty air so I'll pop a few human food thingies in their too....well seperated of course.

It's never bothered me. It's bothered everybody else who's had to dig in the freezer though. (Other than my one local herper friend :P ) I can't afford to buy a small freezer just for the snake food right now, or I would. I'm running out of freezer space for my food.

The frozen rodents don't bother me at all, but I did forgot to mention the lovely ratsicles to my mom when she came to visit. She was less than pleased. She's ok with the snakes and all but the food supply doesn't jive with her.

I don't get queasy but I do feel sorta bad for the little pinkies hanging out in the back of the freezer. Short lived guilt as I love my little ones! The husband (who never goes searching for food even if it's under his nose) went rumaging one day and I got a "what is this???" I calmly replied, "Oh, just some pinky mice for the snakes dear." I got a roll of the eyes and a shrug as he tossed them back to their little corner. Poor guy puts up with a lot for a guy who is not to fond of snakes!

I keep all my rats separated by size in plastic bags... but then these plastic bags go into a brown paper bag. It kind of creeps me out, too, having dead animals next to my Pizza Bites. Plus, the roomie doesn't find it asthetically pleasing, either :)

Never bothered me. In fact, we use the rodent freezer on the back porch as an auxiliary drink insta-cooler during parties. Nothin' like digging for a Corona among bags of guinea pigs...guess it's a good thing most of our friends are herpers too. ;)

I'd have to say it has never bothered me. It's nice to have the whole bottom part of your freezer full of rodent, the other white meat. My rats and large mouse pinks are right next to our other meats. Double bagged in freezer bags and labeled as such, but they aren't anymore dirty than the cow, pig, and chicken in my freezer. :)

It's not that I thought they were dirty or anything, it's just something to get used to. I don't have chickens with heads and feathers in my freezer, it's all nicely packed from the store

In six months, one of my friends will go to grab something out of the freezer for me and they will freak out. :O LOL, by then I will not even think about it

One of the funniest things ever was a time when some friends of mine came over after partaking in, um, well, some not so legal things that might make you giggle a lot & increase your appetite by leaps & bounds. They were SCROUNGIN for food &, I could not resist. I told them to look in the freezer, there should be sumthin good for them to eat in there! Every hear a person shriek in fear!? HAHAHAHA! Ripping good time!

I've always been ok, we keep everything pretty wrapped up and unoticable. Except the one time my husband put a pig in there. And decided not to tell me, and forgot to wrap it. That was not so pleasent. Not so pleasent at all.
But you guys know me and my poor hubby paid for that for about a month, so he hasn't worked up the nerve to do it again....yet.

Let me just say it was a big enough pig that he had to "squeeze" the little guy in there. Not good, not good at all.
I still want to get him back, just have to think of something.
