Saved this little Beauty at the barn...
Heard some lady scream "snake" at the barn today. Went over there and saved that little Beauty out of her Tack room. So cute! [emoji4][emoji4]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...76021fe996.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...04f9722277.jpg

Grey rat snake [emoji4] commonly referred to as a white oak snake.

Most people call every snake a rattle snake around here though...lol.

It was out at the horse barn. I just moved him back to the wood line so the cats don't get him [emoji4]

I'm assuming it's a native (wild) snake as the OP is in the "southeast".

i assumed it was a fancy Cornsnake a neighbor lost or got dumped. :(

glad to know it's a native snake and Zina already helped it back home into the safety of the woods.

Neighbors can be so much fun at a time like this. ;) Years back, several of my neighbors were yelling to me from my back yard fence to "come quick!"
My dog had cornered a snake at the base of my largest tree...it was coiled up, hissing & lunging, while she did her best just to check it out, not trying to harm it.
I saw immediately that it was a harmless adult black rat snake & I picked her up to show the neighbors...they looked at me as if I'd landed from another planet?
Especially because the snake never tried to bite me or anything...when you're not 'heavy-handed', they seem to know you're not a predator, and that snake was
relieved to be rid of my dog. The neighbor's expressions were priceless. Thanks for conjuring up that memory.

Good job you probably saved that poor rat snake from getting smashed with a shovel. Release him nice and far away.

Yeah, everyone that knows me at the barn screams for me when there is a snake. Every snake is a rattle snake according to them, LOL !!! Not that we do not have them there, I've seen plenty Eastern Diamondbacks (all juvies, though) and the odd Copperhead. Only one single Cotton mouth, but it was a big one (horse I was riding almost stepped on him, that was a very, scary moment..) I have saved a Rough Green snake from a cat, now that was a BEAUTIFUL snake, so emerald green, same color as the Green Tree Pythons.

I can handle snakes, but when someone screams "Spider" (and the someone is usually me..) I run the other direction,

I did, didn't even have to go that far. Our horse barn is in the middle of a military installation, right by a huge area of nothing but deep woods. That is why I like it there, its remote and sliced right out of nature.

I took it to the wood line and in the blink of an eye it was gone :)

Animal Control in my area refers all snake calls to us. The hubby took 9 of those our of a lady's house last week, they were so tiny I think they had just hatched.

They are fun little slithers and we have plenty of local farmers who are happy to let them be released around their grain storage to control the rodent population.

Cool story, Zina!! Thanks for sharing!!! As always, good on you for doing what's best for the snake as well as all the other animals in and around the barn area.

P.S. I'm digging the boots!! Some girls in New England try to rock the cowboy boots, it's just not the same. If you go to a country music concert round here, you'll see a thousand girls in brand new cowboy boots, that I'm sure they only wear to concerts. Lame...

9 of them? That must have been so awesome, they are such fast little noodles !! LOL
That is awesome that Animal Control calls you rather then try to kill all snakes ! I wish they did something like that here..

I love boots !!! Real leather boots. But yeah, mine won't look like those new, shiny, pretty ones, mine get a lot of wear, haha.
But nothing like good quality boots !

I was still wearing my flip flops when I got to the barn and that lady started hollering, but I made sure to slip on the boots before going to check on a snake, you just never know, LOL!
