hooray for weigh day!
monday is usually a day for weighs and spot cleaning. quick updates and snaps of everyone but i'll be sharing more details in their individual progression threads (so i apologize in advance for a barrage of my threads).
Yellow is still just eating when he wants. before winter he was ~904g. tonight he weighed in at 811g. we've been through this; i'm not worried lol.

Spaghetti is also kinda choosing when she wants to eat. she's slowly - but surely - growing and doing well. 628g

tbh i think Coffee Bean is getting a bit fat lol. this girl literally has NEVER missed a meal. 721g

Pumpkin has been growing like a weed ever since he took off. 291g

my sweet lil Peach. her personality is just amazing. she's looking dull so i think she's coming up on a shed. 397g

Sweetness is such a pistol; he looooves to hiss, but has never posed to strike. 211g

Wavvy continues to keep me on my toes and teach me something new every day. 35g

Re: hooray for weigh day!
how did i forget Corny???
Corny has lost weight due to my own ignorance in feeding. i really beat myself up over this the past month or so. he's gaining the weight back now that i'm being smarter with his food, but i'm a bit upset with myself. 320g

Re: hooray for weigh day!
Those are some good looking snakes! I love the variety. Random question: how do you get them to stay still on the scale like that? Mine move like crazy so my weights probably aren't accurate. I think I need to purchase one from RBI or somewhere that has a container on it. But I like your bin method, too.

the ones you see outside a holding tub are the ones that just happened to behave tonight lol. Yellow (first pic, 1.0 Albino) is usually a lump on a log, but tonight he was feeling rather energetic hahaha.
i just got lucky. don't be fooled: not all of these photos were easy to take! [emoji6]

tttaylorrr,
What do you think you were doing wrong feeding Corny?
-
Everybody is looking great!!! Thanks for sharing!!
Right now only my King is eating regularly. The rest have been hit or miss the past 2-3 months, and none of the others have eaten the past few weeks. Snakes being snakes, no major weight loss, just mildly aggravating. Hahaha.

thanks for asking.
just offering too small of prey for so long, assuming it was appropriate. he was on large mice from the pet store, but he was pacing his enclosure so much i started offering 2 large mice per feeding. i (incorrectly) assumed this would be enough; it's double what he was eating before! math!!!! i didn't weigh him for a while (because, again, assumptions) and only when i realized he hadn't shed in a long time did i weigh him; he had lost 50g. :( so against the forum's advice, i've been giving a weaned rat/7 days to help him get some weight back on. he shed out last week, which was a relief to me. i'm putting in an order to Perfect Prey within the next few weeks and will be getting ex-breeder mice for him, which are ~20g more per mouse than what i was feeding. until then, his next feedings will alternate between 2 large mice and one weaned rat, but i'll be offering rats to him more sparingly now that he's put a bit of weight back on and go back to mainly offering mice.
:(

Wow, ok. Most people stick to the Munson Plan, as corns will eat anything and everything and gain too much weight if overfed.
Seems like your guy did need more if he was losing weight like that.
Two thoughts though.
1. Have you checked for parasites? That seems like an awful lot of food for a corn his size.
2. If the answer to #1 is that he's clean; if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Below is the munson chart, in case you haven't seen it.
Good luck and keep us in the loop!

keep in mind that Corny is over 5 years old and well over 4ft long. he's not a young growing snake; his growth has been stunted for over 4 years from being fed only fuzzies. he should weigh 500g at his age and length (says the internet but i know that's not 100% true).
i'm not against going to the vet, but i doubt parasites are involved at this point (but I'm an idiot so if any of this is screaming PARASITES then please say so).
the large mice i was offering where ~25g on their BEST day, meaning they were almost always smaller than that (probs closer to 20g). i offered 1 large mouse (~25g) every 7 days from feb to the end of march.
i only started feeding 2 large mice at the end of march, when i realized he hadn't shed out in a while even after i moved him to the large mice (i did not get a weight during this time). it was like once he hit 300g that 1 large mouse just wasn't enough. this was when i panicked and started trying to give him rats bc he was pacing so much and i'm an idiot and i haven't found appropriate sized mice near me.
here's my logs:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f9e71a7f3b.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...71d4feef68.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8f00e7a9e0.jpg
so no more rats. period. there is no fast-tracking this. ugh. with the size of mice i can get now (20-25g), can i feed him multiple times a week? should i just place my order of ex breeder mice now and not mess with the pet stores?
i feel like a failure. i was supposed to take him in to a better home and i'm messing this up left and right. this isn't fair to him.
@mods i would appreciate it if this convo was moved to Corny's progression thread or even a new thread (link to Corny's thread in my signature).

You have some mighty fine looking animals! :)

The stunted growth makes a diagnosis (not that I am qualified to do that) more difficult.
If you have a good reptile vet, I would drop off a fresh poop sample and let them run it. See if that might be an issue.
I adopted an adult corn who was very thin and didn't gain weight easily. He had been underfed and fed live. He had parasites and as soon we cleared that up (which was pretty easy), he started packing on the weight.
Not saying that Corny has parasites, but if he does, they are usually easy to treat.
At 300G, one 25-30G mouse every 7 days should fine. However, as said, if you want to feed two 20G mice, and that works for him, go for it. The issue with obesity is generally when they stop growing and you want them to stay lean. Figment is about 625G and about 5 feet and 5 years old (almost). I feed every two weeks (a jumbo 35-40G mouse) and he maintains. Once a month I feed two weeks in a row, or there about. He started getting little chubby on every week.
Sounds like you are doing really good things and giving a great home to Corny. Don't punish yourself for how he was treated before he got to you.
Keep us in the loop.

okay, i'm going to do some legwork and find a good exotic vet and see what they can do for me. i haven't needed one since i lived ~40mi away from where i am now. at least i can get some peace of mind there. i don't have to worry about getting a fresh sample; he's a poop machine.
from the chart and what you're saying: he shouldn't have lost weight like he did. it seems that way. :(
i just feel so stupid and helpless here. i'm finding it hard not to beat myself up...i know ball pythons; i brought Corny in thinking i could handle it...corns are supposed to be easy. yet here i am with a snake that should be gaining weight like a newborn child suddenly drop ~50g. and my first thought was to ignore your advice???? and give rats!?!??! stupid...i feel so stupid to have ignored your advice from my previous threads on him and the others that tried to help.
thank you so, so much for still replying and trying to help. <3

- tttaylorrr,
If anything is going on health wise, I seriously doubt it isn't reversible/treatable. He will be fine.
Corns are easy peasy compared to BP's (very adaptable and flexible and not nearly as sensitive or picky); it sounds like you have some mitigating circumstances here, even if it is just the stunted growth.
He will be fine. Don't beat yourself up. Instead, put that energy towards figuring out what is going on and CONTINUING to do what's right for Corny.
You are doing great, just keep it up.
My pleasure, RE replying. I, and others on the forum, are here for you. Just keep us posted and we will happily help in any way we can!
David
P.S. Corns are poop machines and drop some hellacious butt bombs! A sample will not be hard to get, agreed!

Hey Taylor, would you mind posting their ages and weights together? It would make it more beneficial I believe. If not would you mind sending me a pm instead? Thanks young lady either way! Again beautiful animals!

Thank you very much !! Has your albino male been not eating in the winter yet? For me, I’ve noticed once they hit 700 grams (males) want to breed, not eat. But by June/July, they become eating machines. I just placed a big order with big cheese.

he's done winter fasts for 2 years now, and yeah that's about the weight he started. he's such an unpredictable weirdo: he fasted from nov-feb then ate for a month straight, and has since gone back to fasting? lol. i caught him roaming this am. i just watch him and see if he comes nosing up to the front of the enclosure at night; he kinda lets me know when he's hungry.

i love Weigh Day aka Post-Poop day!

Re: hooray for weigh day!
My two oldest stop eating around January and don’t really get going again to July, I offer once a month just in case. Occasionally or extremely rarely one might do me a favor and eat. Only bad thing is I’m a little ocd with cleaning their cages, and I get kinda lazy over the winter only having to change water, lol.
