Um, how come nobody told me about these?? I'm going to build an 8' viv and sell a kidney.

I'm officially obsessed. Does anyone here have one?

    Hilabeans,

Very cool snake. Katie showed me this video and I wasn't sure what kind of python it was (but I knew it was a python).

Now, before you go talking about selling a kidney - which is highly illegal in the US - know your audience. In other words, if it comes to that, PM me!

How big do they get? Seems calm as anything!

You know I'd give you first dibs, daks!

They get to be around 8'-10', but are arboreal and like some height. They appear to use every bit of space offered to them. The iridescence on them is insane. I really just can't believe how crazy beautiful they are. They are docile and curious - great temperaments. Very tricky to breed in captivity hence the hefty price tag.

NERD has a pair for sale now for $12K. :O

I think is was back in Nov/Dec there was a pair of adults on Kingsnake.com for $!2 K as well. The guy said that they were definitely not for beginners and this pair was not friendly. Might be the same pair at NERD, I don’t know.

Around 3 years ago they was a member with one asking for husbandry help with his. He had pics of him handling it. It did not appear aggressive and he did not mention that is was. From what I gathered, husbandry was not so straight forward like BP’s, Carpets, and Boas.

They are awesome snakes, sure wish I could afford one.

Hahaha, I was just gonna say join the FB group but then I logged in and saw your post! Boelins are crazy beautiful, but sadly, crazy expensive in the US [emoji20]

You might just fall in love with some other simalias, you know [emoji6]

They tend to not thrive very long in captivity, some people have been successful keeping them for a number of years. I still remember Chad's from Pro Exotics, gorgeous animals.

NERD's are their own CB hatchlings. They have a pair of babies and a YouTube video on them. Swoon. I've watched and read everything out there, just about, and it seems to me an aggressive one would be an anomaly.

You know the heart, it's fickle! I was just telling dakski that I build, demolish, and rebuild my wish list all the time.

From what I can tell, they tend to not breed well in captivity but once established appear to do ok as adults. Hardly matters as I will never have one. But dang, a girl can dream.

I think if he does sell his kidney he should buy 2 of them to breed and gift to all his BP.net friends. :D

I could be mistaken however I believe I remember reading the key to success was proper brumation (similar to diamond pythons).

They like cooler temps as well, like diamonds, and everything I've read indicates that those successful in keeping them keep them exactly like you would a diamond.

I was thinking the same, but unsure of myself, so I didn’t post that.

I do remember however that they are late bloomers. I believe that they don’t mate until 7-8 years old. That is no incentive to breed right there.

Maybe we could all pool our money together and have joint custody of one? We'll do drawings for weekends and holidays?

Nerd has not bred them......... no one has successfully bred them in the US for years and of those handful of times most were imported gravid females. I think only 3-4 people in the us have hatched them and I think only one of those wasn’t a gravid import. Fredrick in Europe has produced three clutches. A guy in either Costa Rica or Puerto Rico that keeps them outside had success a year or so ago and someone else in Europe (I think it was France) just hatched some this month.

Yep, you're right. They were imported. They are such mysteries for sure, I will be very curious to see what the breeding trick ultimately is for them. It seems like everyone has tried to copy Fredrik to no avail yet.

That was always what I had heard on the forums and people would try but they would fail to thrive. This was over 15 years ago. Totally great if people have figured it out now, I hadn't heard differently until this thread.
