    Tattoos! Who has them?
We often say snakes are like tattoos and you can't just have one! I'm sure a fair few of us have them so how about some show and/or tell! I just got a new tattoo that's healing right now so I'm a tattoo mood haha.

    1. What tattoos do you have and where?
    2. How much did yours hurt?
    3. Do you want more?

    Tattoos! Who has them?
    1. Many and all over me. Most recent was a memorial tattoo for a friend that passed away 3 years ago. Got one of his abstract drawings of a rack of ceramic cups on the back of my left arm.
    2. Pain level varies depending on location and amount of work being done per session. Rib cage (got the cover of “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein) was my first and the worst. First full color pieces on both sides of my left calf hurt especially when my artist was adding additional color on top of areas that he had covered about an hour and a half earlier. Fresh work on a freshly created wound... ouch. Surprisingly my dagger across the front of that same shin wasn’t nearly as bad
    3. Yes I want tons more. Planning a large scale snake tattoo eventually that will go from the front of both biceps and across my shoulders and my back. Gonna be a big and expensive project once I get it started.

    1. I have an ivy vine on my right shoulder that wraps from front to back and an infinity with a Ravens feather for my hubs that says always and forever on my back left hip.

    2. Shoulder didn't hurt until hour 4 until it was almost done. The one on my hip was 45 min of crying it hurt so bad.

    3. Duh., of course! lol

Only have one. It's on my arm from my shoulder down to my elbow and wraps around about 3/4 on my arm. It's an oriental dragon and i was planning on doing the full oriental theme with Koi, Geisha girls, samurai, lotus flowers, bamboo and tiger going down both sleeves and my back but i ended up bailing on it as my family told me i would look like a Yakuza as I'm part oriental already lol. Could have been a bad idea. Now I'm too old to try and finish it haha. As for it hurting, yes it did. I had to have it done in 3 sessions. The dragons black work and scales were done in 1 session. Then the dragons color was second session and the back ground water and fire and sky were done as the third session. Then like i said, my forearm down to my wrist was going to be koi in water with lotus flowers...but never finished it.

I don't have any, but I do have plans for some. One I've wanted since high school is the oroboros tattoo from Fullmetal Alchemist on the back of my left hand. I also know I want a watercolor Starscream-themed one. I'm still not 100% sure where I want that one. I'm thinking the inside of my wrist, opposite hand of the oroboros, but we'll see. They both sound like the more painful areas to go with so uh. Yeah. Maybe lol.

My roommate/best friend has one in honor of her brother :).

I only have the one...a small snake ;) On the outside of my right upper arm!

Didn't hurt. It felt more like a hot slicing then needle poking. But weirdly, not that unpleasant, not painful like I thought it would be..

I have 6, both outer arms, one one each forearm, right bicep, and left side of my chest. Total around 25 hours of work. Definitely have plans for more lol. I've found that pain levels vary by person, my most painful one was on my chest. The rest weren't too bad, until around the 4th hour of shading. That's when it gets difficult no matter where it is lol. Anyways, enjoy the pics, and make sure to follow the instructions while healing!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d962eeadc5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8a22722a47.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...69d43abd86.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...96b2491136.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...286a5cd8b2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f093901e00.jpg

I got my two tattoos almost 30 years ago and I honestly never think about them. I don't regret them but I don't care about them either.

I have eight, three of which are snakes. Two pythons and one rattlesnake. And it only really hurt went they went by sensitive or ticklish areas. But that was almost 32 years ago, so let’s not ask for pictures. Oh yeah, biceps, chest and back. Done by Dr. Finn of Ancient Art Tatoo, a kinda famous artist back then.

Great tattoos everyone! I love seeing and hearing about them as well as future plans!

For those who have had multiple session tattoos, do you recall how many days you would have to wait between sessions? I’ve only had single session tattoos so I have no idea if you are required to wait a few days for say, your line work to fully heal before getting color done?

I’m hoping to get my fourth and biggest tattoo next year from Horitomo in a California so I’ll be making a trip specifically for the tattoo. They might be able to do my tattoo in a single session, but just in case they can’t I wouldn’t mind getting an idea how long I should plan my stay there.

I had to wait about 2 weeks in between sessions. You need it to heal before you can do fill in and colors. If it scabs, it can rip out some ink and make it look blotchy and bad. Also you want to make sure the swelling goes down fully. Black outline work isnt too bad. Its when they use the color fill in needles, thats when it starts to hurt as those things are like 4 needles all grouped together and they just have to grind it into the skin so they get plenty of ink in there. Also it depends how much pain you can take. Most artists will ask if you are ok. My artist didnt want to do longer than 4-6 hour sessions not only for his own sanity but also for the customer lol.

Funny enough I actually kinda liked the way getting the tattoos on my inner wrist felt, specifically when they were filling color. The line work mind you didn’t feel as nice aha, but in a way I sorta thought it was therapeutic!

My latest tattoo however, I got three days ago under my collar bones were not the “nice” feeling I was looking forward to haha. Hurt more than my wrists where I was thinking “oh, this is actually hurting” but thankfully not as bad as I’d think, just more than I’d like :p I find it fascinating how everyone’s experience can vary so much!

Makes me wonder what pain level to expect for my next planned tattoo, which I’d like on my upper thigh but with a snake wrapped all the way around it. I heard the outside and front of the thigh is pretty easy to deal with but behind and inner can be super sensitive and painful. Aha I just hope I can handle it.

I have no idea why but I found the opposite with outline vs color fill. The outline I always found the most unpleasant out of the whole process but the color fill I found more tolerable and sometimes even enjoyable (atleast for the wrist tattoos, collar bones though they just felt less painful and sharp to me).

Thanks for pointing out time limitations! My tattoos so far have been done within an hour and a half and I’m pretty sure my next planned one will take within the 4-6 hour range, so I’ll need to consider that with planning this trip and my consultation. I might just need to split my visit into two separate trips. I’m guessing you took brief breaks in between?

Yeah, my sessions were about 4 hours each. And yeah, the artist took a little break here and there to have a smoke but overall he has been doing it for years so he was used to sitting there for long periods i guess lol.

Oh forgot, we all took a break, even the other 2 artists when a deaf girl and her girlfriend started arguing in front of the shop. We kept hearing this muffled yelling so the guy stopped the gun and the sound was gone. Then he started it back up and we would hear it again. He was like ok this cant be my gun so we both got up and went out front to the waiting area and outside the big glass window pane, we saw the arguing. The other 2 artists were already there watching it. The gals finally noticed all of us gawking at them and they left lol. The things you see in Seattle around the Capital Hill areas back in the day. This was like 25 years ago lol...yes I'm an old fart now :P

At last count I have 17 tattoos. I'll stop when I run out of room or ideas. Neither is likely soon. My next two aren't going to be cheap, so its gonna take time to save some money up, but man I'm jonesing for ink!!!

2.) My first one which is a dragon on my chest, the tail curls and is very close to my nipple, when they were working on the tail it was quite painful.
3.) Yes and no. I want more, but not sure of what.

I have three tattoos! I got my latest one a few weeks back.
The first one I got was this one, It's the rune Wunjo from the Elder Futhark. Not only is it the last initial of my boyfriend (W) but it also stands for joy, comfort, pleasure- all those good things. Even though it's on my wrist, it's not really big enough to hurt since it literally took 10 mins tops.
    https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...om/eDdV7c7.png

Then, I went and got this little guy for my 20th birthday. Now, he HURT. I was fine, until the artist started to shade and do the white. His name is Frogbert :)

    https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...om/HblrTdW.png

And finally, I got this little guy the other week. His name is Rupert! He hurt quite a bit too, especially with the colour. Luckily he's only little!
    https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...om/fZWDDJN.png

I deffo want more tattoos! These three have been spontaneous ones, where I've just turned up and had them done (bar Frogbert, I did book for him I guess but it was the day before lol!) But I do want a Penguin (favourite animal!) somewhere and there are a few artists whos work I would love to have on my body so we shall see what I get in the future lol!

When my last ex dumped me I decided to go for all the things I had been thinking of doing but was worried people would think, pierced my nose and got a tattoo.

Haven't been able to afford one since, but I definitely want more! [emoji24] I want to get a seal my husband doodled on me. One of our favorite places to go when we were dating was to see the seals at La Jolla beach in San Diego.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6071c3001a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b0a67a7718.jpg

    Nice tattoo's everyone.

I do not have one for a variety of reasons (I am immune suppressed for one), however, Katie does!

    https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil...tie_tattoo.jpg

Honestly, even if I wasn't immune suppressed I would probably never get a tattoo. To each his own. Obviously, I am not against them, Katie had her tattoo before we met. When she found out I was Jewish and things were going really well before we met, she was afraid to tell me she had one. In Judaism, you are not supposed to get one or you won't be buried. Sounds kind of superstitious to me, and I am sure G-D understands these things, but she knew about that (Katie is not Jewish). She sent me the picture above before our first meeting, and explained the meaning of it to me, kind of full disclosure before we met. I couldn't argue with the meaning and already loved and adored her, so I had nothing negative to say either way. It's part of Katie, and I love ALL of Katie, psychical, emotional, mental, etc.

    Anyway, the meaning:

She got it after her divorce and the phoenix represents her rising from the ashes of her marriage, being born anew, and given another chance at life. The phoenix is rising out of a (blank) book for two reasons. First, she loves to read, and secondly, and most important, she knows (and wanted to be reminded) that she writes her own story in life. In a big way, it's up to her how that story will turn out.

beautiful and so simple. love it!

i didn't know anyone there personally, but it was hard to get outta bed all of that week. we read all of the victims' names and had a long moment of silence before a staff meeting the Wednesday preceding the tragedy. i've been harassed before but it was hard to feel safe for awhile.

anyways i gotta buncha. this one is of two of my girls and it's on my butt!
    https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...m/uJNgd4al.jpg

i do well w/ the pain. i think where it hurts most for me is on the inner forearm like over the carpal tendons close to the wrist and bone ridges. but any session over 3hours i start feeling raw all over the area getting tattooed. there are a few factors in pain: your own tolerance, the artist's technique and the tattoo gun. old skool coil guns hit softer. my man main uses more modern rotary guns like a Cheyenne that uses the cartridge system. the skin/wound will heal in 3-4 weeks, so i wait 4-6 for any follow-ups to cover my bases. i like to use A&D for aftercare for 1-2 weeks, washing and reapplying 3-4 times a day and then nutrient lotion the rest of the way. i wait until after the summer for touchups b/c i wanna know how my skin and the tattoo reacts to tanning. and of course i want more. just waiting for the next inspiration.

    Edit:

I have two tattoos! Both on my left hand and they're both stick & poke tattoos. Which is like a DIY tattoo, so I did them myself. One is a 'crude' drawing of a snake and the other is an 'X' which is a Norse rune that means gift. I'm Norwegian/Japanese so that's where that came from. They didn't hurt much but I did have a glass of wine beforehand!

    I'll post a photo later!

oohhh i want a stick and poke! i knew someone who does it really well but she moved to LA in Dec but i hope to get something next time she visits. :)

Edit: also have a drink but don't get pissed drunk. the alcohol will thin out your blood and make the ink run more, so your tattoo will less likely stay and look crappy.

Just to clarify this here for you David (and anyone else that it under the same impression, a lot of people are), the thing about Jews with tattoos not being buried in a Jewish cemetery is a MYTH. It was a scary story grandmas used to tell their grandkids to keep them from getting inked and somehow it stuck. I've actually gone through rabbinical training and completed two programs which I guess technically certify me as a rabbi (LOL). Though I am no longer practicing orthodox Judaism, before my first tattoo I looked into it and turns out that when a lot of Jews got forcibly tattooed during the Holocaust the question came up about burial, and all of the primary Rabbis of the time were just like "Dude, that's not a real thing, of course they can be buried" lol.

Anyways, sorry for the ramble. I have lots of ink (posted earlier in this thread) and plan on getting lots more!

I appreciate the feedback. We had family killed in the Holocaust, which might explain why my family was so anti-tattoo.

Still not going to get one because of the immune suppression, and, basic lack of desire, but I did pass on the knowledge to Katie.

Really cool that it's not based in the religion, but rather the culture.

    Thank you Avsha531!

Lol you're welcome. To be clear, not getting a tattoo is in the religion, says it straight out in the bible, but so is like a billion other things that no one follows. The bunk about the burial is all culture

I have 4 tattoos :) A Celtic triangle on my right wrist, Mew from Pokemon on my left wrist, a tribal heart on my lower back and a tribal dragon on my mid-upper back. I'll try to get pics of them all tomorrow.

Almost all of them didnt hurt that bad, only one that kinda hurt was my dragon, but only when the wings were being done since they barely touch where my shoulder blades are. Also the vibration made me a tad nauseous every now and then because I could feel it vibrating the back of my ribs xD

I'm hoping to get another soon, its been 11 years since my last one! I want to start a snake sleeve on my right arm :D

Half sleeve of a city scene that looks like something from Rocko's Modern Life (remember that show? lol)
    Sugar skull on my forearm
Oak leaves and acorns on my calf
Swallows with a banner on my chest

.... oh and the one that always surprises the dental hygienist whenever I'm in there

"SMILE" on the inside of my lip :D:D:D

    1. What tattoos do you have and where?
    2. How much did yours hurt?
    3. Do you want more?

Lets see.... I have 12 tattoos at the moment. 1 on each calf, 1 on each upper arm, 1 on the right side of my belly, 1 on each shoulder blade (back), 1 on my left hand middle finger, 2 on my right forearm and 1 on my left forearm and 1 on my lower back.

The ones that kinda hurt were the lower back and my left upper arm because it was a cover up and took 5 settings to complete. I am not sure if I am done yet! Been thinking about getting a tattoo to remember my sweet puppy that recently passed away... They are addicting that's for sure!

Just one for me so far, a cross between a Celtic knot and tribal heart that I designed. It’s on the back of my left shoulder. I got it about 15 years ago to represent my other half and I. Most of it wasn’t too bad except the shading in a few spots. Not exactly painful, but not real fun either.

It's not finished yet, I still need the part that goes around the back of the leg and some touch ups and it will be finished.

    It's my pastel clown.

I haz one. Mines a heart with a semi colon and its on my inner wrist. I got it as away to remind myself that I have a story to tell. As for pain...it didn't really hurt untill the tattoo artist went over my tendons.Even then I would compare it to a cat scratch.

I'm getting a thigh tattoo next in May! Unfortunately not from Horitomo because I was informed he's no longer taking new clients for the type of tattoo I'd want and it will be up to him to decide whenever he feels like doing so again. I've been on his waiting list for a little over two years now but they did mention no promises, so alas :(

I did however find another artist I really liked to do my thigh tattoo! It will be of a Vietnamese blue beauty ratsnake on my thigh and wrapped around with blue flowers! So I'm totally pumped for it!

ah did they tattoos on the clavicles hurt more? i know peeps have different pain tolerances and reactions to pain, but i found out for me that on the bone hurts more then meaty body parts.

also were u hoping for tebori-style tattoo from Morimoto? that would be so kool! a lil different, but i would love one day to travel back to SE Asia and get a bamboo needle tattoo from a monk like Angelina Jolie.

Compared to my wrists yeah they hurt more, especially when it was closer to bone! Nothing too horrible thankfully but there were a few times I was definitely wincing and thinking ouch, yeah these sting alright!

As for Horitomo I was totally hoping to experience a tebori-style tattoo! I was very curious how that technique would differ and feel like. I admit I'm still bummed out I can't get a tattoo from him any time soon, but I'm hoping maybe one day I'll get a lucky phone call :)

I have a phoenix that runs from my left shoulder, up and over, and across to about mid-chest. Close to the armpit was painful, but the rest was not too bad. I am a somewhat hairy dude and my tattoo artist went through 3 razors to prep the area, teased me and said he should charge me extra just for that.

lol! i would be a good idea for artists to keep clippers for bears like u. clip and then go in w/ a razor.
