Still smitten...
My Cal King, Django, had been in shed so I hadn't handled him in over a week. Well i got home from work and did my enclsoure checks and was selfishly happy to see he had shed. I could hang out with my buddy!!
So I took him out to make sure his shed was complete (he's never had anything but perfect sheds, he's easy:)) and hang out for a bit. While he was out i actually realized I missed him while he was in shed. I sat there as he explored, climbed all over the couch, flicked his tongue, and used me as a jungle gym. And i actually thought to myself "I'm still smitten like a kitten". I felt like a teenager with his first real crush, hahahaha.
Many of you have probably heard me say he's my favorite snake I've ever owned, because he is. I absolutely love all my snakes, and all for different reasons. But there's just something about Django that makes me fall in love with him over and over again...

Was he your first? And he is a good Looking kid too!

They're so adorable when they're that little, but so fast and flighty too.
I like watching them grow up, but I really enjoy them most once they've get some size on them. Once they outgrow the always on the go, having to do the hand-over-hand handling sessions, and such.
That being said, enjoy little Pictures growing into a beautiful adult. I'll be watching, so keep the updates coming :)

Shes definitely flighty. Im going to buy a background for her tank and some foliage. Right now i was focused on watching her the first two weeks i had her. Shes surpassed expectations and has eaten three meals for me no issue. She noe shares the hognose feeding schedule, fuzzy every 5 days.
Currently her home consists of 3 inches of aspen, one turtle shell hide on the cool side, a toilet paper roll tunnel (2 rolls together) in the center, a rock hide in hot spot, sphagnum moss dish for shedding on the cool side, and her water dish.
She musks every time i handle her and she just pooped on me yesterday. Silly snek. Has not struck yet. Emphasis on yet.
Does her set up sound okay? I used to own them way long ago (like 5 to 9 years old, im 26 now), so im considering myself a new owner completely [emoji23]

Sounds about right for a King. I used to use paper towel rolls too, they love them. I now have a section of PVC pipe for Django. Just make sure to replace it if it starts to get wet or anything, they can mold up if not careful.
3 inches of substrate may be overkill, but I don't see it being an issue either.
As for the musking, she'll outgrow it. It's probably a good sign she hasn't struck, yet...she'll probably be a sweetheart.

Re: Still smitten...
Very nice looking king there Craig. They're really fun snakes. Not very big but they pack quite a punch. Gram for gram my MBK used to strike her food harder than any of my other snakes.

Thanks! They really are fun. And yup, Django is a spaz when he smells his dinner. It still surprises me every now and then how quick his strikes can be, and he can cover some distance too. He'll sometimes miss his mouse and launch himself halfway across his 4 foot enclosure, hahaha.

How can anyone NOT love a snake that looks like chocolate & with personality+? Snakes don't have to be huge or fancy colors to be awesome pets.
