Smeagol pics..will be updated frequently!
For anyone who likes to see him, this will be the thread of Smeagol pics. The random ones that don't deserve their own thread (psst, don't tell him, he thinks he deserves his own thread 4 times the day)
Stretching is important !!!
Streeeeeeeeeetch....

if you look cute you get yummy bugs..

Did my first deep cleaning of the Viv. Basically, just to switch stuff around a bit and clean water spots off. Going to mist with drinking water from now on to avoid those dang water spots !!! Smeagol was NOT happy that he had to go back into his Kritter Keeper while I worked. He promptly pooped in there to let me know how he felt about it.
After scrubbing off the water spots and finding 2 errant and well hidden poops I cut off a tiny piece of the tree. That part came to close to the edge of the door that folds INWARDS as you open it. If not careful, you can pinch a gecko that is close to that area. Smeagol liked to sleep to close to the door and it made me nervous that I could catch him between the branch and the door. I put the corkbark on its end, to see if he will like it better that way, he usually ignores everything on the ground. The empty corner got a nice big rock that has a plant above it, for an additional shaded and hidden hang out, if he ever chooses to go there, LOL. I haven't went full out bio active on the soil yet, still growing the springtails, but I put some leaf litter on top of the Reptile Prime. Wow, it smells so good. Looks nice, too.
He is still sleeping in his favorite spot, but further away from the door, which is what I wanted. His Viv is always a work in progress, I have 2 artificial stand up plants coming that I may put in the left corner. He doesn't seem to mind the changes, still begs for food and is all over the place once his sunset lights come on :D
Btw. they most definitely do drink out of water dishes. At least Smeagol does. Got to observe him take a good long drink right out of the little cup. That is a relief, so I know I don't have to over mist just to get him to drink.

Of course this morning we have nice little food hand prints all over the formerly clean glass and urates all the way from the top of the tree, streaked down the tree and on his new leaves. LOL.
But...no water spots :)
Let's end this with a couple cute belly pics..

Seeing your pictures or smeagol all the time makes me want to get a crestie soooo bad. Awesome pictures, so much personality in such a small package.

Amazing looking fella. I've always liked them but never really ventured past snakes in regards to reptiles.

Guess who weighs 16 grams today [emoji4] Doesn't sound like much, but he came at 11 grams 4 weeks ago and they gain weight rather slowly. So 5 grams (which was half his weight) is a pretty good gain [emoji4]

Lol that guy looks like he like to stretch out almost as much as my beardie.
Also funny how his head looks like it is twice the size of his body.
Definitely seems different than my gecko experiences which involved my barking cage fighter Tokay gecko and my lightning fast house geckos.
-
He definitely is a funny guy.
Right now he is throwing a royal temper tantrum.
I'm not giving in to his begging eyes. He wants out of the cage and he wants Dubia Roaches. Now. Right now.
So he keeps staring at me. Sitting by the door. Sitting on the ledge. If that doesn't work, he is jumping around. Jumping into his Crested Gecko diet food dish and splattering it everywhere.
Most likely he will poop into the food or throw the dish down again like he has done before, LOL. But he has to learn that he can't have bugs every day, he needs to eat his gecko smoothies, too !!
Its like living with a teenager slamming doors and whining around, sheesh !!!

LOL cute little guy. I've not been able to get any of my geckos to take dubia yet (my gargs, leachie, or cresteds). I'll have to try again. Do you leave his in a dish for him at the bottom of his cage? I'm thinking I may have to try that as opposed to tong-feeding.
IMO the only disadvantage to cresteds is that they are nocturnal. I hardly ever get to see mine awake since their cages are in my reptile room.

Those Dubias are smart !!!
They play dead. As soon as Smeagol is in the bin with them they stop moving. And he won't hunt/eat them unless they move. They can literally sit in front of him, under him, ON him and he ignores them unless they start running. I have to keep prodding them ( I know, mean..) Even on the tongs, if they don't move, he don't care..
I don't mind them being nocturnal, because I stay up late. Plus Smeagol sleeps right out in the open. Used to be, he wouldn't do anything until I went to bed and I had to sneak around in the dark to catch him take one step.
Well, that is over with. Now he takes advantage of me sitting there to pull all kinds of stuff to get me to take him out. He will try to stare me down, hop around, sit by the door, stare some more, jump by the door, act crazy and throw a fit. He wants the door to open, the hand to appear, and come out. Preferably to be taken to the Dubia pit. Boy, he was just nuts last night.
And he still didn't eat the gecko diet, LOL. He just smeared it everywhere. So tonight..no bugs. It will be interesting, sigh..:rolleye2:

He is so dang cute :) I feel so lucky with him. Even when he is sleeping, his favorite spot is right up there in the upper front corner. So I get to see him all day long. And he sleeps so cute :) Today his little face was all squshed up against the glass. It kept sliding deeper and deeper as the day went on.
I swear he is starting to recognize his name. He hears it often enough, LOL.
Along with "little stinky", "booger face", "baby", "little booger", "cutey pie", "smart little gecko".
He continues to walk right on my hand when I put it in there at night. He is adventurous :D
They are so entertaining, even when they don't do much :)

Ok I am shopping now. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...... LOL. Are screen cages ok for them. I already have one if so. I can get a glass one though.

Re: Smeagol pics..will be updated frequently!
Welp thanks to this thread I am on my path to getting my first crested gecko. I went to pick up some feeders from my local store and they had a used 18x18x24 on sale for 40 dollars, I couldn't pass that offer up, so now I am slowly getting everything else I need.
They just have way too much personality to not want all one. Now if just have to keep myself from buying too many of them.
-
aw, look Tttaylorrr, mission accomplished !!! LOL
I think in the case of Cresties glass cages are probably the way to go, either something like a Exo Terra or a glass tank standing on end.
That or a big tub that has been made to work.
You do need good ventilation (tubs do better with a cut out and some screen glued in) but on the other hand a screen cage probably loosed to much humidity to fast.
However, I'm still a beginner, too, that is just from what I've researched.
I'm so excited for you both :) They are such fun little animals !!
