Rainbow is in her hide quick question?
Should I wait until she comes out to try to handle her? I'm hoping she comes out later today I just don't want to startled her.

Is this the snake you just got ???
you really shouldn’t be handling at all...
let her settle. Let her start feeding regularly then handle.
Too much handling too soon is gonna stress your girl

You only fed her yesterday and about 12 hours ago !!!
I leave mine at least 48 hours sometimes longer ....
Like others have said .. take it easy .
I'd get the eye / shed sorted out .... plus wait another feed even two before even considering handling ..
Some wait three weeks just to let them settle .

If it's new, let it settle in. Otherwise, i always lift Caesar's hide off him during the day if i need to get to him. Sometimes he is ok with that, other times he will shove my hand away like crazy. It's the equivalent of 'just a little more sleep, dad!!' response lol.

yeah he just got her 3/21 and fed her 3/22 (you replied in his progression thread: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...on-progression)
Skyrivers, I agree with the others, let her settle in for a bit please.

I think we all understand your eagerness to hang with your new retic, but you have to make sure your excitment does not overide your better judgement, especially when it comes to your snake's general well being and health.
Be patient, snakes will live a long time and you will have plenty of time to handle your new girl after she's fully settled. Just remember to take things slow.

Maybe it's time to pump the brakes a little. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I just looked back at your profile quick. You showed us your 2 new snakes about 9 weeks ago when you first joined the forum. Since then, there have been 40 threads, some of which were newbie questions and you even thanked the forum for our help with your beginner questions.
Now, I may be off here, but in this time you've added 4 other snakes, 1 which was brought back and swapped out very quickly as well as a chameleon that passed away. That's almost a new animal per week.
How are you quarantining these animals? Basically, they should ALL be in separate rooms still. None have been in your possession long enough to go through a proper quarantine process.
Also, if you're already forgetting who ate when and asking if a snake that's been with you 2 days and ate yesterday is ok to handle it's probably time to pump the brakes. Learn how to care for 1 animal properly before bringing 6 home.
These aren't trendy beanie babies or Pokemon that you collect, these are living animals.
Look, I'm sure you care for your animals deeply. I can see you got bit hard by the snake keeping bug. I get it. But seriously, the animals health and well being should be top priority. And judging by the continued newbie questions you're still asking, maybe just slow down so your current animals can thrive. LEARN your animals and appreciate the ones you have before you overshoot and are in over your head or lose instrest. I've seen it happen too often in this hobby and the animals suffer and collections are unloaded.
Just a thought, and certainly not a dig on you personally. Please know the animals are my main concern and I want you to be able to enjoy your animals.

Just for clarification, I am a noob as far as BPs and Retics. I am not new to herps in general. It has been 30 years from the time I had one as a child. My dad kept my corn snakes and king snake when I went into the military. He would not let me have them back after I spent 3 years in Germany and did not want to ship them overseas. Did not have all the guidelines to go by back then. Temp control and humidity has come a long way the past few years as education and technology comes along. This is not a fad to me. I love all my animals and have made a lifelong commitment to raising them. I think it is great to advance in our understanding to provide better care for them in general. The days if providing just a heat lamp and tossing them food weekly/monthly/etc... has been traded for proper care. I did make a mistake about her feeding this week. I feed everyone else on Sundays. I implemented a feeding card on all the animals and should be easier to keep track from here.

I hear ya, and promise I'm not trying to give you a hard time. I've just seen so many people dive in head first and lose interest almost as quick as the got bit but the bug. And it's the animals who suffer. I'm glad you're not gonna fall into that category.
I was out of the hobby a while too, it sure has changed. I started out around 99-2000ish and wow, what a different world. It's so much better now.
I use a website called iherp.com for all my tacking. Feedings, sheds, etc...etc...etc...
Thanks for your service:salute:
And thanks for not taking my reply personally. It's all about the animals for me...

It's all good. Trust me when it comes to my animals I'm the most fierce predator of them all guarding them with my life.

The truth is I have an entire zoo if I could afford it and manage it. My house is almost like a zoo already with 5 snakes of three different species, two dogs, and a colony of African soft fur rats. I do have a girlfriend that enjoys taking care of them as much as I do but I'm perfectly capable of doing it on my own. I'm 42 years old and in great health.

Nice! My animals are my family too. I'm 39 w/no kids. So my 4 snakes, 4 ferrets, cat and 2 fish tanks are all my animal family. Love them to death, they keep me sane most days, hahahaha

I had a nice 75 gallon fish tank that I loved until it sprung a leak while I was at work. Cloud was laying there with his ears laid back trying to say "I didn't do it" LOL. I cleaned everything up and intend one day to reseal it and start over. Sold all my fish back to the pet store for a profit. Some of them were high end discuss.

Not to totally derail this but I kept very high end wild discus for a long time
my gorgeous display tank was basically stolen from me and held hostage during a lovely divorce.
I miss my discus. What type did you have. Any pics ??

Sadly no pics. One pair was orange and another pair had bright blue stripes. Also had several angels moly's for feeders.

Ugggh, I had a 55 gallonspring a leak a few months ago. That sucked. I went out and bought a 75 to replace it. Now I have a 75 and a 55. I just lost 2 silver dollars and a Bala shark a few weeks ago due to a nor'easter power outage. Now I just have the Oscars, but I'm restarting the 55 with new silver dollars and a few others.
