My new Oreocryptophis Porphyraceus Coxi (Thai Bamboo Ratsnake)
ok i have been pining after these for awhile now. i've seen only a handful of adults (no neonates or juvies tho) at the local expo's and the last pair i saw in October had broken striping. i just wanted a clean, classic fully striped example. my local mom and pop pet shop got a juvie last year, a feisty one, but i waited a lil too long and someone else snapped it up. i saw another juvie in a reptile shop a few towns over but the markup was crazy, so i passed. but last week, my fav mom and pop shop got another one - a friendly, fully striped neonate! i just love their red-orange colors, clean white bellies, and black striping.

anyways! so this is Sriracha, my new Oreocryptophis Porphyraceus Coxi (Thai Bamboo Ratsnake). i name my BP's after Wicked/Wizard of Oz stuff and name my Colubrids after food and drinks. so i thought naming him after the Sriracha hot sauce b/c of his Thai ancenstry was fitting. :) he's the friendliest Coxi i've met so far but who knows, maybe Sriracha will grow into a feisty lil snake full of spice and attitude lol. ;)

i handled him last week and he was in his hide. where is he now? under the water bowl! aww lil thing is so scurred!

    43 minus 24 equals 19. Sriracha is a teeny, tiny 19grams.

    Great name!

How's his personality so far? Feisty?

Edit - sorry - he's nice, missed that. Still love the name and hope he doesn't earn it by getting feisty later.

yep he's on pinkies. i only have a few mice pinkies left and have most of a bag of rat pinkies (which are bigger). so i'll see if he takes a rat pinkie in a few days or so.

also don't worry. i'm sure u will get your own Coxi; it's just a matter of when. ;)

Fast moving and even faster when lunging and biting :)

For some reason their bites really hurt ... sharper teeth than norm or maybe just the type of bite .. Thank the Lord he's only about 20" long .... he's still my scariest snake :)

For what it's worth these look extra stunning if kept on dark coloured substrate , I use Orchid bark and that's great for keeping the humidity up ... They like some humidity or a damp moss hide ...
