    Shed Art...?
Sorry for the double post... I guess people are tired of hearing about thunder already and I got no love. Lol.

Anyways I just don’t want to mess up or ruin this as I think it’s something I’ll want to remember and have forever as I move through this hobby.

I got my first shed Friday and again it’s my first so I’m no expert but it was full solid and lovely.

Anyone do anything with their sheds? Preserve them in anyway? Anything crafty ?

    thanks

I always frame my first sheds! I have all my snakes first framed, and then I have a box I put the others in ☺ I think they're way too cool to throw away!

I just save the first one from each new snake. I put them in plastic takeout containers and label them. Other than that, they are thrown away. Although, I do have one from my King hanging on a curtain rod in my snake room. I put it there jokingly and it's still there.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m thinking a frame but if you have a coil intact shed draped about that’s kinda awesome lol! Did or do they dry out or get brittle??

I eat ‘em when I run out of pork rinds!

They have a bit of a Wang to them. Gotta add some salt. :D

I did something really cool with my guy's shed but the shop I used looks to be temporarily closed. Bummer! https://www.etsy.com/shop/SnakeCharm...hopheader-name

However, she makes beautiful things. She will custom make a replica of your snake, coiled around a vile for keeping his shed. The charm can be used as a necklace or a key chain. I had mine made into a key chain as eventually my little guy will live in a PVC cage with locking doors, and I intend to keep his keys on this key chain.

Maybe you can hit her up on FB to see when she's reopening if you like her stuff. And Etsy is a great place for more shed keeping ideas, if you haven't checked it out already.

u can make these cute lil buttons (https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...shed-buttons-D) or stuff to frame (https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...Snake-Shed-Art). i like to give some of the nice ones to my lil sis to take to her class and she can give them out to her lil students. :)

They dry out, but don't get overly brittle. I could move it easily enough just being gentle.

On a serious note there is someone on this forum who decorates buttons with snake sheds and they look marvellous .

I actually promised to send them my old skins but I've since lost the contact details and also the bag of old snake sheds [emoji20]

You have a Royal Ball python I presume - mine are usually the same ..

All my others including the Corn snake , Kings , Rat snakes , Burm , Boa , Retic are usually good .

Oddly enough my Mexican Black King snake sheds look kinda normal but sorta charcoal black !!!

No problem! They're pressed against the glass in the frames, and placed in baggies in a box :) Hope this helps!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2b14c89db4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...cddd2a21d0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...44e9a518a3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...51dfaded62.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...29f786e158.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f486051c1f.jpg

Long time ago, I worked with someone that did fly fishing and I'd give him shed skins from my corn snakes, he'd fashion them on his flys. I don't know how successful it was (wet shed tends to get droopy and saggy right away) but he kept asking for them so I suppose he must have had some success.

At herp society meeting a while back, biologist was asking for shed skins so I started saving some from various species. Drying them out then folding and storing in a zip lock, like how GpBp posted. The meetings changed to a new location and I stopped going, so I'll probably toss the shed I kept. This is my favorite though, especially since she's passed now, my big boa Autumn:

A tip, if they're fresh they're surprisingly durable, for Pylox's fifth shed I wanted to keep it but it had poop in it, so I just sprayed the shed down, then carefully made a small cut and took out the poop, after which I soaked the shed in warm soapy water and left it to hang and dry. A tip though, try to use drinking water or bottled water to wash it, I noticed that tap water gives it a faint, but noticable fishy smell

I can never save mine as there is normally poop in the shed.
