How'd You Get Your Username?

I was just thinking about this the other day and lo & behold, there are a couple of ancient threads on it. But they're years old and I didn't recognize many of the members, so I'm making a new one for 2018.

How'd you get your username? Some are rather straightforward (ahem...Deborah), other's are a mess of letters and #s (looking at you, c0r3yr0s3). Just curious for your stories!

I'll kick it off: hilabeans is a riff on the American colloquialism for something being trivial ("that's not worth a hill of beans"), and my name - Hilary.

Not terribly original, but my cleverness isn't worth a hill of beans.

Soooooooo being a mad keen Incubus obsessive , everytime I tried to register a web domain / Twitter / Instagram account in the name of Incubus - it had already been taken so I went for Zincubus .... Initially I started with Zinc Ubus but it evolved into Zincubus . Oddly enough many online contacts refer to me as Zinc ...

Originally I was set on getting a GSD a few years back so I was in a huge dog phase aha. Got involved in forums, books, shows and research. All that jazz. Even got in contact with a breeder and put a deposit on a litter we were waiting on. Settled on wanting a female and calling her "MISSterdog" hence my user name :p

Unfortunately getting a dog didn't work out. Bad timing, bad financial situation, living situation and incompatible lifestyle. It wouldn't have been fair to get a puppy just because I wanted one. Sadly my dog dreams have been shelved until I feel I'm confident enough and ready to provide the care and commitment a dog deserves. So I've settled on cats and snakes lol

For now I'm happy watching @redshepherd living my dog dreams for me :p

It's quite easy. My first name is Caroline (pronounced the French way) and my middle name is Alicia (also pronounced the French way) hence my user name Caali. It's basically just the first two letters of my first name and the three first letters of my second name put together.

I'm lazy... It's my name with numbers in place of letters

Back in 04 I got into a bunch of jeep and offroading forums. Most users had something with the make and model of their vehicle for their screen name. Not wanting to be like every other jeep owner I used one of my other cars. I've used it on every forum since.

He authored a number of reptile books, including "Reptiles of North America" which I fell in love with when I was in high school. Hence my Username, rlditmars. Nothing special..

When I signed up I had just gotten a beautiful Angolan Python named "Zina". It was in 2010.

Hence...Zina10 :)

I used to participate in a type of Brazilian martial art called capoeira. It's part of the culture for your mestre to name you, and from that point on you are known to everyone involved in capoeira as your nickname. Mine doesn't have a Portuguese translation like some, just a situational one. It's pronounced "chee-la."

Obviously that's the name she put on my birth certificate ;)

I play guitar and my favorite guitarist is Randy Rhoads who passed away on Mar. 19, 1982. Nothing special.

CALM: Initials in order, Me, Wife & each daughter. Also the English Gypsy word for LOVE. Hence my business name "CALM Paving". Also my Lic plate & Tattoo. So CALM Pythons means "Love Pythons".

Mine is from the manga/anime Death Note. Basically Kira = killer.

I've always liked the name anyway but I signed up here shortly after binge watching the series so it stuck.

One of my nicknames is Big Ron and my badge number is 8080...thus BR8080

something dumb i came up with in high school for xbox live. this was in the height of the CoD franchise and i was so excited to finally get an account; it was literally the first thing i thought of for a username. it's my name with extra letters, just because.

I'm a computer and tech guy. Charles is obviously my first name, 8088 is a very old Intel processor. Charles8088.

OR....one of my hockey coaches started calling me Craiga, so that's been my nickname for most of my life.

Old screen name from AOL (I know, I am dating myself here - turn 38 this month). Came up with it when I was a kid. First initial, middle initial, last initial (DAK) and SKI, so DAKSKI.

I used to be an avid, and good, skier. However, I almost always skied with my father, often out West, and even in Europe. He passed away suddenly 13 years ago, and I haven't skied since. However, I kept the username for forums and such.

Hahahaha, AOL!! I remember that too (turned 39 in Jan). Yup, I feel old knowing how long ago that was. My first AOL screen name was reebfac. I thought i was clever, but my parents figured out right away it was my initials and beer spelled backwards.

Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane and happy upcoming birthday!

My friends from high school and a few others call me blue because of my blue hair and my favorite animals used to be Wolves so my old usernames used to be Wolfheart so a lot of people online called me Wolf, so I made a new username that merged the two BluuWolf... with blue spelled wrong just to be special..

I came up with mine back when I was a kid. If anyone's familiar with pokemon- Lugia was my favorite. Then I added time in front of it since the first website I had a username for was serebi.net and they're mascot is a time pokemon. It's never taken so I've stuck with it ever since.

I know, I'm totally loving these stories!!

We need to make a thread to put a face with these names...I know I imagine what each of you look like (mostly like a Hemsworth of some sort) but it would be fun to see the actuals. Somebody do that!

My wife actually came up with the name when we first got WebTV about 25 years ago.
It came from something she really did not like about me in high school.
I loved to fight, probably more than most male teenagers. I didn't go out picking and rarely starting but even if I got beat you knew who I left my mark on. The school we went to in the early 90s is/was when guys thought it was okay to start laying their hands on women/girls..... I had no problem handing my wife (girlfriend at the time) my books. It was to a point that she would just walk away and put them in my locker knowing I would get suspended.
The other side of the name came from my love for the American Pitbull and we have had them in our family for over 20 years. Currently have four females from 2 year to the old girl who will be 10 this year.
Long story short, my wife gave birth to our son and my name.
PitOnTheProwl has been around for a long time and there is no other. :gj:

i named myself after my fav person Axel28. by crazy coincidence, Ax is also the first syallable/pronunciation to my actual name Akson. i grew up using my nickname Billy but reclaimed and started using my actual name Akson in high school. so depeding on when we met, peeps will refer to me as Billy, Ax or Axon. ;)

I work for the post office lmao

Came up with mine back in college. At that point, I was an art major (BFA drawing concentration) and I liked geckos and thought the word "gecko" sounded cool. Thus, my screen name. I have kept it with pretty much every forum I've joined in some form or another. I now own more snakes than geckos, but do still have a few geckos hanging around. I also teach art now, so that part of the name still applies also.

Got to love pits. One of the best dogs I ever had was a pit. Found her at 6 weeks old on the street in Baltimore outside penn station. Hence her name, Penny. She had some issues from being taking away from her mom so young, but was a great and fiercely loyal girl!

My sister lives in LA and volunteers at Angel City Pits, a pit rescue organization out there.

Sadly, pits, like snakes, often get an undeserving and bad rap.

Sonny is my nickname from almost birth, 13 and 18 are my daughters birthdays. This is my one and only form, I think I might be the crabby guy for such a happy nickname (and old) I seen the picture thread. 🤣

It was either the mispronunciation of it or how did you get that name. Like I had a choice in the matter. But I know love my name. It’s uniqueness. It’s not being the norm.
