    Yeah, I also blame Deborah!!
    LOL

For starting to look into Geckos, that is. She posted such a cool picture of one. So...after looking and reading, I decided a little Crestie is going to join the household.

Picked one out, but will probably not be shipped until the week after next one. After having near summer weather for a few weeks it decided to get cold again, esp. at night. Next week we will still have cold nights on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Well, here is the lil one. 10 gr., probable male. Pictures taken from breeders website, will post my own once he arrives :)

You should get one too !!! They can "grow up together" :)

You can always blame it on Deborah, too, LOL!

My two cresties are pretty social! They're so sweet when there out. Not near as skiddish as I thought! I love mine :) I wasnt too happy about bugs either, but I go by PetSmart once a week and get 10 for a dollar, and that feeds em. Also, I usually just dust and drop them in! So pretty easy! Here's some pics of Bea. And congrats Zina!! From my research (no actual experience yet) you CAN handle, but like with all reptiles, keep it to a minimum, esp. when they are young. There is a TON of info and videos out there !!

There are "complete" feeds, powders you mix with water to create a "smoothie". That is actually all they "need". (Repashy, Pangea) But many people still feed some crickets or other insects on occasion. Like a couple times the week or month (depends on who you ask)

They need temps between 72 an 78 degrees, are usually as low as 65. Can NOT handle heat, though.

Supposedly mine is currently eating Repashy Mango. So I ordered some of that as well as Repashy with bugs, and Pangea with bugs. I heard the ones with bugs get thicker and more "gel" like, but put weight on nicely.

We'll see what he prefers, LOL. Will be one spoiled Gecko, I'm sure...

    OMG! SOOOOO CUTE!

Can they live with other geckos (same species), or is it not advised? I have 3 female LG's and they got along for a while, but then one got real aggressive. I have one on her own and two that get along great together in another tank.

Re: Yeah, I also blame Deborah!!
    If this helps:

I have little "gecko drawer" in my kitchen conststing of:

    Toothpicks (to mix Pangea)
Banana and Apricot Pangea (Pocket loves!)
    Bug Pangea (Bea loves!)
    Calcuim dust (for the crickets)
2 extra bottle caps (I use as food/water bowls)
    1/8 tsp (to scoop Pangea)
ReptiSafe water (water I mix with Pangea)

I'm not sure about Repashy, but with Pangea I dont follow the 1:3 powder water ratio. Way to soupy! I do about 1:1, I eyeball it adding water as needed till I get a baby food consistency.

Pics are of the stuff in the gecko drawer, unmixed Pangea, mixed Pangea, and of it in both tanks :) Hope this helps a bit!

Remember, I have no personal experience yet, but from what I've read it's better to keep them separate. You can let females live together if the enclosure is roomy enough, but they can suddenly not get along anymore..

That said, they do not need really big enclosures and the little ones are better off in a smaller enclosure at first.

Thank you Zina10. I was just curious, especially since my LG's did fine for 4 years before I had a problem, LOL, and was told if they grew up together, it would probably be fine. Luckily, I have plenty of space and just put a divider in a 6X2' Boaphile enclosure. Cleo is living like a queen in her own 3X2' setup! Kayla and Carra aren't to shabby either in their 3X2'.

Besides, me and tttaylorrr are trying to get Katie to let me get a scaleless corn :). That won't happen, but it's fun trying. Pretty much at my limit. So, no new cutie pie geckos for me.

Seriously though, enjoy! SOOOO CUTE! Keep us posted!

Great idea! Can't hurt, right? Although, I think that seems to work better for Katie than it does for me.

No joke. Katie is a beautiful blonde haired, blue eyed, curvy and chesty, young woman (32 year old). I am a short and chubby jewish guy from NY (who turns 38 this month). I am pretty smart, and can be persuasive and persistent, but my looks aren't going to do it.

Last summer, Katie got pulled over, in Massachusetts (we live in Northern CT). She was speeding. She didn't have her insurance card or registration in the car, and had left her license at home, if I remember correctly. If that was me, I would have gotten thrown in jail (in that case I would probably be happy to be a short and chubby jewish guy). Katie, wearing a nice summer outfit, with sun shining through her blonde hair and highlighting her blue eyes, got off with a VERBAL WARNING! Are you kidding me?

Don't get me wrong. I am very happy to have a beautiful fiancé (who is also wonderful in many other ways and lets me keep a zoo). However, she could get away with murder with a smile and a wink. :).

Anyway, sorry to go on here, and not trying to steal the thread, Zina10.

Can't wait to see pictures and hear how you are doing with the CUTIE!

    I'll chime in.

Cresties do well together (females of course) they are not aggressive by any mean, of course that means you need to know the sex before housing them together, even then however I do not recommend to house them together until they are sub adult. Young crested will bully each others which often leads to one of the geckos growing slower.

    I'm excited :)

My house is always between 72 and 78 degrees, at the lowest around 69 during winter nights. Therefore I need no additional heat nor light.
Plus they happily live in a relative small enclosure that can be made really pretty.

So I can have my new buddy right by my computer desk, where I spend a lot of time late evening and into the night, when they like to be "busy". Looking forward to watch his antics.
I chose a male because of the possible "egg issues" with females. Of course later on I found out about the "amorous, fun time" issues with males. :weirdface
Well...if he wants his fun time, I can deal with that, I shall avert my eyes ;)

That I can live with. I'm strange, too !!! LOL

When we had those "forced" military wives get together;s all the ladies would talk about about the latest "Coach purse" they bought, or who is going to hold the next "Pampered Chef" party. And there was I. Talking about giving shots to my latest rescue snake and taking their stool sample to the Vet.... ;)

I might have to install a little cute black "curtain" in front of the enclosure.

I don't think I want to see "fun time" while doing the check book or browsing forums.

I could custom make a little cute black curtain with white letters on it that reads "Psssst, fun time going on..."

Deborah, please tell me they don't make "noises" during "fun time"...that would add a whole new dimension to the whole thing!! LOL

I honestly have not seen much of this "fun time" with my males. They do make noises when breeding, and sometimes females will squawk at each other if they are housed together. But usually a single male doesn't vocalize much if at all.

That is good to know ;)

I joined this "crested gecko" facebook group, and there seems to be a lot of talk (and pics) about fun time !! Just today there were at least 2 such discussions (with pics) that I saw when I briefly looked over some posts :P

    Example:

(picture NOT mine, off of facebook)

    CHILDREN CLOSE YOUR EYES !!!

    http://photos.imageevent.com/morgens...37411584_o.jpg

Maybe they just have fun time loving geckos, LOL.

Hopefully mine won't be a horny toad, and if he is, that is ok. I won't get him any Beanie Babies, but I will avert my eyes and dutifully clean up ... (after donning industrial sized rubber gloves)

I will still love that little cutie. I can't wait for him to arrive.

And Taylorr, you need to get one too, now, you need to be on this journey with me :)

Is it ok to offer a variety of different food ? Or do they get hooked on one food ?

He currently eats Repashy Mango. I also ordered the bug versions of Repashy and Pangea.

Should I stick with what he is used to for now? Or offer different things ? He is still so little (10gr) I want to make sure he will eat ..

No, I use no toys or curtains. Even when I was breeding cresteds and spending hours in the gecko room feeding and cleaning at nights I saw it happen maybe one time. Granted, I don't have any of my male geckos where I can see them 24/7, but I still don't think it is an every day type of behavior.

I would stick with what he is used to to start out with. It is common for young cresteds to get picky about eating after being shipped or when in a new home, so keep it familiar in the beginning and there is less chance of having an issue. Once he is settled in and gaining weight you can try other foods. I really like the Pangea with Insects and all of my geckos eat it with no problems. They have varying opinions of other flavors and brands, but I have the most success with that one. I generally stick with the Pangea with Insects and every once in a while I switch it out with a different flavor until I use up the alternate flavor. Your gecko will let you know which flavors he likes best. :)

Thank you, that is good to know !!

I already asked the breeder how he set up the little one, so I can try to mimic most of what he is used to.

I will give him the food he is used to first, and will introduce the Pangea with insects once he is acclimated. I hope he will like that food :)

For weeks now we have had near summer weather and now, that I'm waiting on having the little one shipped, it has to get cold. siiiiiiiiiiigh.

Patience is not a virtue of mine, but safety first !! No matter how long it takes..

Once you find their favorite food stick to it.

Back in the days before pangea was around Rephashy was THE food however they mess around and changed their formula and many people complained that their gecko did not eat as much anymore.

Pangea is a GREAT food, I no longer feed the one with bugs since I actually offer Dubias once or twice a weeks but I feed the Banana Apricot right now (Chahoua loves it, Gargoyle not so much), based on sales (since I work a friend's table who sales geckos and food) the most popular in order are Watermelon, Apricot & Banana and Fruit Mix with bugs.

Good thing I only bought small sizes of each food !

I'm definitely going to start with the Repashy Mango, just because that is what he is eating now. I will then try to get him to take Pangea mixes :) Do any of you mix "bee pollen" into the food? Is there any true benefit to doing so ?

The Pangea foods already have bee pollen in them, so no I do not mix more into it. :)

I'm getting ready to set up the temporary enclosure for the teeny one.

After my research I have concluded...they do better in a SMALLER and simpler enclosure, esp. when young/small. They can be very picky eaters. They stop eating when stressed.

Gosh, where have I heard all that before ??

Well, personally, I can go either way. When I get stressed, I either don't eat at all, or eat everything I see!

LOL, seriously, yeah, where have we heard that before?

Thank you for the info Zina10. Sounds like (not that I know the species or anything) you did you research, and you are setting up the tank properly with the little guy in mind. You are going to be a great gecko parent!

Just keep us in the loop! Oh, and post more pictures when he is settled in! We love pictures!

Young geckos will tend to stress but will have issue finding their food also in larger enclosure, usually for an hatchling I always recommend a small critter keeper and work your way up.

He is supposed to be 10 gr. I got a Critter Keeper, it is not the smallest, but not very large either. Will use paper towels for now, so I can monitor "output" ;)
