Shephard Lovers
Here are new pics of Zeus. Both ears are finally up and he is growing so fast.

Re: Shephard Lovers
Oh Jeanne, what a perfect set of ears and his facial markings are just absolutely lovely (errrrrr handsome for the lil boy dog lol).
We had two big boy white shepherd's growing up. They were fantastic dogs and one had the biggest ears! I used to worry the wind would take him away LOL.
Can't believe how big that pup has gotten in such a short time!

Re: Shephard Lovers
I don't have any pics handy, but I've got a five year old male named Jess. He's a horse! We literally give him a horse trough to drink out of. :) Keep him at home on the farm, though, not here at school. But he's every girls dream... the only man he likes is my dad. He does fine with women and children, but, boy, does he get protective when I'm around other guys...

Re: Shephard Lovers
Smulkin, Freya is just beautiful!
Lynn, I know what you mean about being "every girls dream" as far as a dog goes. I got more than I bargained for with this breed, in a good way ofcourse. I can say nothing wrong about Zeus, he is very very intelligent, obedient, house trained, never chews things he should not, destroys nothing, very loveable.... amazing dog and awesome breed.

That's exactly what you would call it. Although not accepted in the conformation rings, White German Shepherds are just another color variation of the German Shepherd Dog. The first dog to ever make a German Shepherd was all white. It was called the Alsatian Wolf Hound. Some how, during WWII, and the reign of Hitler, he ordered all of the white dogs to be put down. The genetics of German Shepherds is very similar to that of the BP's we talk about a lot. The white is an example of a Co-Dom gene. Black/Tan, Black/Red, Black and Sable are all recessive traits. Two Black/Tans can give you an all white dog. If you breed a white to a Black/Tan (not very highly accepted either) you'll get about half whites and the other half black/tans with a small possibility for a black or a sable. Two whites though will always yeild 100% white.
Just a little info fer ya. :)
I used to breed White GSD's :)

Re: Shephard Lovers
Wow, lots of us Shepherd owners here! I've got a cross (with big floppy ears) and I definitely agree with what's been said about the breed. My Ozcar is an angel. The only thing he ever does even remotely wrong is picking tissue out of the garbage and eating it, but in the grand scheme of dog trouble, that's VERY minor, especially for being a pound puppy with a sordid past.
You guys have some very cute puppies!!

Ours too - what gives there?
Is that like cats who love to gnaw on crinkly cellophane type stuff? Can't let ours anywhere NEAR an easter basket . .

Re: Shephard Lovers
Shephards are truly lovely animals! My big guy is a sable and I have to say with my husband working night shifts I don't know if I would sleep well if Ka-zar weren't in the house! As it is he alerts me when a car dares to turn into our neighborhood (thankfully he keeps it to a low key bark/snuffle). A mite bit protective (especially with men!) but he's simply the best with our family, friends and most importantly our kids. He puts up with a lot and we love him!

Re: Shephard Lovers
All beautiful shots guys! I love shepards, we get quite a few into the Humane Society and one of my boss man's favorite breeds. (he used to breed them). We are always very particular on where they are re~homed. Home checks the whole deal.
Have any of you ever seen a Dutch Shepard. I absolutely love the Dutch's.

We have a cat that eats tinsel and those cheezy white cotton tree skirts with the sparkles on them... I mean he'll lay there and literally EAT the skirt until someone stops him.
As for german shephards, I want one someday. I've only ever had a yellow lab, a boxer (recently moved out with my sister), and currently a jack russel mix (anybody want a free dog?) Shephards are beatiful dogs, and intelligent! My favorite dog tied with the lab.

Re: Shephard Lovers
^^ HAHAHA! Funny story, my hubby told me once about one of his cats that ate tinsel from the Christmas tree and eventually half of it was hanging out the cat's bum... he ended up having to step on the end that was out and scare the cat so it ran away, leaving the tinsel behind. Yeowch!
That's hilarious that someone else's Shepherd eats tissue. I really have no idea WHAT is up with that. It'd be fine if he'd eat it all, but he leaves little shreds of it all over the place and it drives me insane. But hey, shreds of tissue are so minor compared to what other dogs I know do, so I don't complain too much.

Same with that easter grass!
Talk about high fiber . .

Re: Shephard Lovers
Actually watch the tinsel eating. Our female cat did that when she was young and our vet cautioned that it could in fact rip her insides up so we just stopped using it completely.

Re: Shephard Lovers
No worries. We have no cats now, cats are evil! I don't need drama and attitude from my animals, so I'll stick to dogs and the cold-blooded, thanks. :)

Re: Shephard Lovers
Aw, I want a shepherd someday. That, or a dobey.
My mom has a shepherd mix female. She got her from the SPCA a few years ago, after her former owner passed away. She has so many quirks; if she ever does something wrong, she'll sit there and look up at you while raising her paw. I don't know what she's mixed with, but her ears don't stick up.
