I am sorry if this question has been asked or seems a bit redundant, however I’ve looked up multiple sources and I seem to be getting conflicting information and it’s confusing me. Is it required for an animal plastics cage to use flex watt for under the tank heating. Or some type of heat tape?

Or can another type or form of heat mat work just as well? I have an ultra therm on my glass enclosure now not sure if I can use that?

Definitely not required. You can use any type of uth just fine. Personally I feel Ultratherm is the best of the options so if yours is the right size go ahead and use it :) I also use Ultratherm and they work fantastic with my AP cage.

What size cage do you have from them?

care to share more about your set up? Any pics ?

dud you always have your snake in there or did you start with something else and move it ?

how do you feel about the “too big” set up feeling or are you a fan of crowding the Cage and providing multiple hides and they are fine ?

I'm using a T12 with a divdider so my guy is only using half his cage until he's big enough for the rest of it. So he's using 24x24x24 at the moment and it was what he started with when I got him at 126 grams. I chose the crowding the cage method, sectioning off the cage and making the floorspace seem smaller with plenty of clutter, top cover and hides. Basically making sure his travels paths had plenty of shelter so he could feel safe while moving from point a to point b, and protected from 'predators from above."

Here is what he started with: *note temps are off bc I just did a full cage clean lol*

I think at the time he started with 5 hides to choose from, two warm, two cool (matching) and one spare. I actually have a thread where I posted a mini tour of his set up. https://ball-pythons.net/forums/showthread.php?248898-Tapioca-Progression-Thread!&p=2563703&viewfull=1#post2563703

He's been a fantastic eater for me and never missed a meal, been doing amazingly well but every snake if different. I wouldn't recommend for everyone to dive into a large cage like I did. At least not without careful planning, as it can be more work. If you don't keep your husbandry on point and everything isn't set right it can back fire. I had a back-up tub prepared in case I needed to downsize but I've been fortunate that has not been the case. Just make sure you learn all the rules before you 'break' them and understand why you are choosing to do so.

    Gorgeous snake first and foremost!!

So I ask because I was able to get a T8 locally Barely used with an installed RHP, Cage locks, therm hook ups(no therm:( tho... for $200... I felt it was a rather good deal.

I’m prepping for my second ball. He’s right around 190grams. I have my first ball in a much smaller exo Terra 18” all around. As I read more and more I found that glass cages aren’t so great and I can see why. Although my temps seem good the humidity issue is real and requires attention not to mention I don’t want to keep buying cages until they reach a final home.

I’m currently in an apartment for another year or so and I was planing to go to some type of rack system once I move and have the space. I was tempted to just get another exo Terra and set it up just as mine is now and just deal with the misting /water dumping I do every few days or so, I really don’t mind but it does get tedious.

I felt this would be a good experiment for me to see the difference and test the two so once I move I can decide which way to go.

AP just uses Flexwatt which you can get at any reptile shop. Its pretty much the same as any non stick heat tape. The difference is AP will wire it for you. RBI will too but Bean Farm wont as you need to be a certified electrician for liability issues.

I personally use the AP flexwatt in all my cages. I got 3 T10, 3 T8, 3 T25. I keep my snake room fairly warm so no need for RHPs for me.

Wow that’s one amazing professional looking set up. I can only dream to have something like that one day !! Impressive !

Do you keep your guys in those from the time you get them until adulthood or do you start them elsewhere and move them over ?

Thank you ! I went the ultratherm route myself. How is it working for you?

I start them in the left stack of T8 or T10 and then when they get 5+ feet, i switch them to the T25.

And thanks. That set up cost me a small fortune lol. I will have to take a more recent pic as i got the right cages all big Pothos too and plan to add a second Pothos to them. Rosey LOVES her plant and so far Caesar seems to like his as he is wrapped around it lol.

And yeah, my set up was not done overnight. It took about a year to get all the cages and Herpstats etc

Can you talk to me more about the pothos. Is it just for you and your eye why benefit to them or just a thing to climb ?

I also recently purchased an Animal Plastics cage (T10).
    Would a reptitherm UTH work?

I don't use Animal Plastics enclosures but I use a lot of UTH- specifically FlexWatt heat tapes. Off-hand I see no reason why your reptitherm UTH wouldn't work with your new AP cage, as long as you install it correctly & it's controlled by a quality thermostat. All heating devices, such as UTH, need to be regulated, & I know from having tried a reptitherm in the past that they can get VERY hot- enough to harm your snake- if they're not adequately controlled or installed incorrectly.
