    BP Guarding Food?
I tried feeding my bp last night and it didn't eat but seems like it's guarding its prey. Since last night it's been in the exact same position. It tracks my movements and if I go to lift the lid to take the mouse out, it raises up like it's ready to strike if it has to. This is the first time it has done this. Any ideas?

I know log hides are bad. This setup is only temporary. I'll be changing this.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d61cfc2abe.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...75bf54c93e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...028e9441e3.jpg

It sounds like it wants to eat it but maybe it's not warm enough. Have you reheated since last night?

No I haven't. It seems defensive about me even getting inside the tank to get the mouse out.

Mine does this too on occasion. Whenever she doesnt eat it within 5-10 min of uncoiling I simply get my tongs, grab the mouse by the scruff or butt, and wiggle it around like it is trying to escape. She'll jump on it immediately, coil it again, then eat it right away. She actually did this last night. Hope this works!

Just use your tongs to reach in a grab the mouse, reheat and offer again.

Yeah, if you stick your hand in and grab the mouse, your gonna get bit. Do you have a big plastic or wooden spoon or a spatula? If you have 2 would be better. One for blocking and the other to drag the mouse out of striking range.

Do you have Tongs. I’d pull it out and try again in a few days and if it’s been there all night I would personally discard it.

How so you offer it? Do you Just lay it there. Do you try to shake it and mimic movement? Maybe it’s too “dead” and your snake wants to hunt ?

    just my thoughts

I used tongs. One time it grabbed from the tongs the other time I had to just drop it and it ate bit this time it just seems to be guarding.

With the mouse out now, should I get rid of it try reheating and feeding? What would be the best way to reheat it (no blow dryer). The was in the tank since last night.

I would try again in hot water. If the snake doesn't take it within an hour toss it.

Even when I wiggle it with tongs, it just gets in strike position but never actually eat it although It did strike once but didn't eat. My bp seems to only take food every other week.

Next time try heating it well. Once the rat is thawed out I put the rat in a ziplock bag and then into a bowl of warm water for about 15-20 minutes. my bp likes her food extra warm so maybe that's how yours likes it. Try wiggling the rat a little more too. Hope that helps and that your bp eats for you! :)

Thanks. That's usually how I do it. It seems to only take food every other week. When it does eat it snatched the food within seconds. Would getting a slightly bigger size mouse or rat be ok? I'm heading to the pet store in a bit.
