    My big girl escaped
During the night my big girl escaped. Woke up to find her door slid open a few inches. I think my son did not slide her door all the way shut and engage the lock, when putting her up before he went to bed. I have spent the morning looking in and under things, with no luck. Any tips tricks or ideas on how to find her? What’s my best course of action? My home is naturally cool. I’ve looked in the obvious “heat source “ places under fridge, stove, etc. she’s limited to the kitchen, living room, and possibly my sons room as his door was cracked open during the night. Will she freeze to death, starve, get hung up in something and choke?

in my experience, a loose beep is never more than 10ft from their enclosure. keep your search radius tight but thorough. any place that resembles a hiding spot, a nook or cranny, has potential even if it seems too small. in fact, the impossible spots are where you should look first.

    good luck.

Did you try inside your furniture? Couches are like a playground inside around the frame

Taylor nailed it.....they like dark and confined areas.....and warmth as well. Check EVERY nook and cranny starting with the closest distance to the cage. You would be amazed as to what they can fit into. Loose clothing, blankets, couch cushions have all turned up results before.

This sounds crazy but I know as a fact that couple people on this forum years ago have had luck with the following method as a last resort:

If you don't have luck after a couple days you can try buying a live feeder and placing it in a rubbermaid tub with plenty of air holes in the center of a room preferably close to the cage location (make sure the room doesn't have carpet). Then, sprinkle a light dusting of flour on the floor of the room and wait. It usually isn't common to catch them in the act but it allows you to isolate their location.

Yeah, they typically don't stray too far. Check spaces smaller than you can imagine they can fit. Check inside furniture, drawers, etc...

But...BE CAREFUL when opening drawers, moving parts if furniture, etc...to not squish the snake.

    Good luck, keep up posted!

Also, be on the lookout for a big smelly poo! Hope you find her :( Be very careful looking around, you don't want to squish her! And I like the idea of luring her out with a feeder. Best of luck! :snake:

I’ve flipped couch and chairs over, moved fridge and stove. For some reason I keep coming back to the couch. It is the closest thing to her cage, and when she’s out on the couch she likes to get behind the cushions. I feel like I’m in the Olympic’s of a hide and seek game with a ninja. We are doing a thorough sweep of each room. We have flippped the living room, but that doesn’t mean she’s not there. How long before I should start to worry about her well being and safety? I’m hoping tonigjt after everyone goes to bed I can sit quietly and she will slither our from whatever impossible hiding spot she’s in.

Do you have any other animals? Dogs, Cats? If so I'd probably be pretty worried. If not, calm down. Take a deep breath. I'm sure you will find her! When my bp, Geno escaped, I was so worried! I was about to give up after searching for what felt like days! But I found him under an ottoman in the next room over, perfectly fine. She should be okay w/o food and heat for a couple of days, please update us if you can! It'll be okay :)

Start at the enclosure and work outwards. Both times I’ve had escapees they’ve been very close to their enclosures - my spotted python was about three feet down, inside a roll of contact paper, and my sand boa was about a foot away from his enclosure, next shelf down and over a little bit, hiding in a bunch of cords, and I believe he’d been out a couple/few days (he normally lurks under his substrate, so not seeing him is normal).

I hope you find her! When Winry got out a few months ago I found that she had wedged herself between some moving boxes and frames. When I found her she was just looking up at me casually like "what's up?".

What helped was my cat kept staring over at the boxes with his hair standing up. I figured he must have seen something unusual.

When Miss Snow escaped found her in the drawer where the pots and pan goes underneath the stove. I had to move pots and pans around to see her.

Sorry to hear about the escape, hopefully you find her quickly. :( I've only had 2 escapes that were my fault in all the years I've been keeping, and both times the snakes were on opposite sides of the room from their enclosure. The ball python was under one of those old-fashioned domed TVs right smack in the middle of a cold draft, the garter was found right by the door underneath a guitar case, despite there being cold winter air coming in right on top of him from the large gap under the front door.

Just check everywhere, especially underneath and inside things. I once saw someone post a lost 6'+ boa constrictor...they found it inside their acoustic guitar! :O They can go into some crazy places.

Found her! Literally tore my house apart piece by piece 3928682 different times. Y’all weren’t joking when you said look and look again. I looked in this spot at least 5 different times. I never actually thought that she would be there because she is a big girl 2436g, right at 5.5, but kept looking because hell i didn’t know where else to look. She made it into the kitchen, into the pantry, in a box of contractors trash bags. She worked her way underneath them. When I would look, all I would see is a roll of black bags, and I thought it was just the bags that were heavy. The only reason I found her, was I happened to look down this morning by chance, and see her snout poking out behind the roll. Thank y’all for you’re advice. I was in a panic yesterday, once I got over being creeped out that she was loose and I didn’t know where, I was so worried about her getting into something and hurting herself.

When my boy got out a few years back, he got in with my post and pans. Managed to get inside my tea kettle, with a lid.

    Excellent !!!

Oddly enough my late Grand-dad had a saying ..

Just as you are ready to give up ... Keep trying ..

It's surprising just how often following that advice had benefited me in many situations over the decades ...
